  1. The Department of Cultural Affairs (apart of LSGOV) hosts all the unique markets, fairs, festivals, runs, charity events, etc. Really its mostly limited to your own creativity and it brings all sorts of business/organizations together. I feel like it’s something very healthy that gives the server little bits of life every once in awhile. Consistently it’s been only two people over the past year running events but I think with more people it would open up a ton of cool new opportunities that would keep the server feeling fresh. (A slightly biased take but more people would help us from not feeling so burned out)
  2. A GUIDE TO GTAW EVENT PLANNING --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you have an idea for an event in GTAW but have no idea how to go about it? Do you want to request something specific but don't know how? Are you completely lost while navigating through the various in-character permits it takes to sort out an event? This guide should help you better understand the general processes, what to expect, and what public service options are out there to best suit your events! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 1: The Idea Phase Whenever you are planning an event, there is a set of questions you need to ask yourself before moving onto the next step. One of the biggest keys to a successful event is being organized. I recommend putting your ideas down in writing (or typing) so that you have a physical thing to refer to rather than your memory. Ultimately, you will need to ask yourself these questions: 1. What is the general idea for the event? - It is important to nail down your event concept early on. Events that change concepts during the planning can cause unwanted stress, permit issues, or personnel problems. 2. What group of people is this event targeting? - Having a general idea on what kinds of people will be showing up can help you better plan what to include or what safety measures are needed. 3. Where will this event take place? - Los Santos and the surrounding areas feature an endless amount of potential event locations. Generally most outdoor locations can be requested via event permits which are explained in detail in Step 2. Events taking place on private areas will need more IC coordination to set up, but may ultimately save you on some permits. 4. When will this event take place? - The sooner you can nail down a date the faster you can move onto the next step. Make sure you consult with those who will be involved so that everyone can be apart of it. Also, its important to check for other community events that may be happening during the same time period. As common courtesy, its best to try not and overlap too much on other major events happening. 5. Does this event make sense to host? - When it comes to GTAW, portrayal is emphasized in a variety of requests. Being sure that this event is realistic and that your character can orchestrate and event in a realistic manner is a solid self reflection practice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 2: Permitting & Requests Recently, it has become mandatory to request your IC permits BEFORE you can request a dimension for your event (unless you can justify otherwise). However, the process for doing so may seem a bit daunting for some people. Here is what you need to know for requesting permits: SPECIAL EVENT PERMIT - All special dimension requests require one of these to be in place unless you can justify not needing one for your event (Being illegal in nature, being on private property on some occasions, etc.). If you are planning an event in Dimension 0 (the default GTAW dimension where everyone is) you may still need to get the proper permitting for your event. If your event is on public property, will require additional requests from city services, or will have motorized racing vehicles you will need a special event permit. Generally, when in doubt, it's always good to just have one. THESE REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 7 DAYS BEFORE THE DATE OF THE EVENT. NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THESE DETAILS IN YOUR PERMIT REQUEST: -What safety measures will be in place (Security, medics, etc.) -What city cervices will be requested for the event (Closing of roads, PD presence, medics, lifeguards, FD, etc.) LSFD PUBLIC AFFAIRS GENERAL EVENTS REQUEST - These requests are required if you want/need to have EMS services, medflight, lifeguards, or any LSFD services. Any event that will involve some level of hazard to the general public, fire, or pyrotechnic will require this request. Fire safety inspections require requests to be submitted 72 HOURS before the event and FD Presence requests must be submitted 7 DAYS before the event date. LSFD PUBLIC AFFAIRS RACING EVENT PERMIT - These requests are MANDATORY for all legal racing themed events. If you are doing a racing event you will NOT also need to fill out a General Events Request. You will need to make sure you lay out what safety measures will be in place for drivers, participants, and the general public as well as track layouts. Racing Event Permits must be requested 5 DAYS prior to the start of the event. NOTE: Here are a few points you should know: -When requesting LSFD you will need to have a basic staging area set up for them to stay during the event. -If the event is on public property a mandatory presence from a Law Enforcement Agency (LSPD, LSSD, SAPR, or SFM) is required for LSFD -Basic event security is required for LSFD presence -If medflight is requested to be on call, a landing area will need to be properly marked and reserved. LSPD REQUESTS - This request form is used if you want police presence during the event, need roads closed, or traffic management. These requests must be submitted 14 DAYS before the event date. NOTE: LSPD are NOT to be used as a replacement for event security. LSSD REQUESTS - They don't have any forms, however, you can email them on their forums for any specialized requests. SFM REQUESTS - They don't have any forms, however, you can email them on their forums for any specialized requests. SAPR EVENT REQUESTS - These requests are required for events that will take place within the jurisdiction of state parks, are requesting SAPR presence, or will feature live animals on exhibit. For live animal exhibits, SAPR will need to inspect the enclosure beforehand to ensure all ethical standards are met (Food, water, shelter, etc.). These requests must be submitted at least 7 DAYS before the event. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 3: Event Dimensions Once you get your permits in place, you can request an event dimension on the forums. It is important to accurately include the name of your event as well as what will be happening. Additionally, you will need to provide your special event permit as proof that your event was set up IC. To find the coordinates, you will need to stand in the spot you want the dimension and do /coords. Including other permits and requests may also help justify your event dimension. When you're finished with your event dimension, make sure you reply to your request saying that it can be deleted. YOU CAN REQUEST YOUR EVENT DIMENSIONS HERE. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 4: Mapping Mapping can take a long portion of the event preparation phase. It is recommended to have some mapping experience before hosting an event. For events the biggest thing to consider is lag. Here are a few things that we have found contribute to lag during events: 1. Having large clusters of people in close proximity 2. Having harsh lighting that casts intense shadows (especially red/blue lights) 3. Having more than 1 vehicle in a dimension 4. Having a large amount of items close together. If you do not have very many slots, you may want to consider reaching out to someone who does, getting The Department of Cultural Affairs involved (If the event can be justified being a city event), or reaching out to the mapping team. However, none of these options are guaranteed for success. Most people who map will require some sort of commission for their work. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 5 : Preparation Using your game plan from Step 1, you can start preparing for your event. When collaborating with other groups/business it is important that everyone is on the same page. I recommend creating a temporary discord for your event that participants can join in. Just make sure this channel stays OOC unless you get permission and supervision from an admin. Additionally, it is nice to continuously check in with participants regularly to confirm they are still in fact participating. NOTE: Here are a few things to consider: -Many people can't commit to an event until close to the day of. -It's not uncommon for people to commit and then not show up. Don't assume someone will be there until you actually see them there. -Security is ALWAYS something that should be considered. Even if its a smaller event it's not uncommon for people to wander in looking to start trouble. -Get others involved. Events are FANTASTIC for bringing people together. -Make sure you advertise your event adequately if it is a public event! -Music can set the mood of an event. -Don't be afraid to ask for help -The Department of Cultural Affairs can sometimes assist in funding for the event. It never hurts to ask. -The Department of Transportation can sometimes set up a temporary shuttle bus route to and from your event. This is a good way to spread RP across more people. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 5 : Execution As the event starts, there are a few things you can expect. The first part of the event can be the most overwhelming as you finish up the final touches, get people into their places, and make sure everything is perfect. However, It is important to know that not all events go as planned. Don't get frustrated if it doesn't happen exactly how you imagined. Often, your perspective of an event is VASTLY different from those who attended. Attendees often don't even realize if there is an issue. As the event goes on, you'll just need to roll with the punches. The big thing is to have fun and take pride in the work you put in to make it happen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interested in hosting events for the server? The Department of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) handles all the events hosted by the City of Los Santos. From parades, charity events, and festivals, DOCA's main thing is creating unique opportunities and bringing life to GTAW. I highly recommend considering DOCA if you have a passion for creating events for the server. -

  4. As someone who has remapped Fantasia HUNDREDS of times I can get behind this 100%
  5. Short description: Add cruise control for boats Detailed description: Boats can be somewhat slow to accelerate or travel across the water. Adding cruise control would prevent drivers from having to stop and start every time they want to RP something. This can be incredibly frustrating while boating in a group. Commands to add: N/A How would your suggestion improve the server? This would allow drivers to stay involved in RP conversations. Since there are hardly any obstacles in the ocean, there should be no worry that cruise control would cause any crashes.
  6. Judging by how common CK’s are, I’m sure a funeral home would be quite popular
  7. Even then everything was a mess. For a lot of people the whole pier straight up went invisible despite it being in a different dimension.
  8. 10 minutes into my new char a homeless guy came up and said “I have aids. Give me all your money or I’ll bite you”. He then proceeded to not give me a chance to respond and bit my character anyways.
  9. Is there a way to add people to email conversations with the new system?
  10. I’d just like to toss in a few ideas I had. I don’t know how practical they are but could be worth thinking about. Here’s my idea for new trucking improvements: Business in need of components put out requests that can be picked up by truckers or companies. For example, “I’m buying 5,000 components for X price.” A phone number is also included for the truck driver to contact the customer. Customers will need to be online in order to get their shipments. Truck drivers then would need to coordinate with the customers in order to figure out where to deliver shipments and other instructions (hence fixing the lack of RP concerns). This is somewhat similar to the system used IC for buying alcohol from breweries or places other than liquor stores. Payments would then be handled IC rather than through a script. Because of the improved RP quality and time put into planning a shipment, I think the amount of components a truck can carry per shipment should be increased. A simple idea would be small vans = 2,500 components, medium trucks = 5,000, and large trucks 10,000 components or something like that. Certain IC certification could also be necessary in order to drive larger trucks. Less going back and fourth for shipments = more focus on RPing out the deliveries. This new system would would fix the lack of RP concerns, improving the quality of shipments while eliminating the redundancy of grinding to earn money. Shipments become more personable and businesses could maybe even compete with rivaling business to set up shipment contracts with businesses. I will admit, there is one downside I noticed to this system. An issue would be if you typically play in a time zone that not many other players play on. This might make it hard to find drivers.
  11. I was about to suggest this. I think if this happens then someone should put in charge of running it this time so it doesn’t end up abandoned again. If ran correctly, think it would be a good way for players to run a business without totally needing to depend on /bad.
  12. Short Description: Develop a script that can be attached to vehicles and anchored down to promote outdoor business RP. Detailed Description: The idea is that this would be a lite script that acts similar to the unique item script. It would offer the same benefits of item creation and the 4k/hr ( or less) for actively RPing but without the ability do use /openbusiness. Essentially this script could be “attached” to a vehicle which would then “anchor” the script in place once it’s parked and allow it’s users to /startshift within a small area around the vehicle. Scripts would of course need to be approved and handled similar to how regular scripts are handled. Once a vehicle is granted a script it can either not be sold or the script is removed upon the sale to prevent abuse. The delivery system could even be tweaked to allow components to work with this script. Relevant Commands/Items: /anchorbusiness? How will it benefit the server?: There has been discussions recently that the city feels dead because everyone is inside buildings. Adding a feature such as this would encourage more outdoor RP and interaction. This would also help with the high demand for business ownership as a physical building wouldn’t necessarily be needed. Here are a few examples where the script could be handy: FOOD TRUCKS - This one is pretty self explanatory and most obvious. It would allow this business to be more profitable without sacrificing RP in the process. LANDSCAPING COMPANIES - The script could be attached to a truck that allows people to RP yard work for some of the newly approved homes and the Mirror Park neighborhood. MARKETS - This opens up the possibility for regular pop up markets around the city. Groups of people with their script could gather and sell hand crafted products, produce, and more. Does Karen want to sell her MLM products out of her van? Farmer Jim looking to sell his watermelons out of his pickup truck? Maybe hunter Keith wants to sell you some of his hand crafted fur purses from the animals he hunts. All this could be made possible with this addiction. GRAFFITI CLEANING CREW - Pairing this with the new image information parker feature, a business could be made to go around cleaning up all that unwanted graffiti on walls and bridges. This would also promote vandalism RP since it would provide a back-and-fourth battle between cleaning up and tagging. STREET PERFORMERS - If you’ve ever met Sparkles the Clown,(a product of @Cindy ) you’d know how much fun it is to watch her street performances. Allowing performers to get a little bit more help financially would promote this RP and give the city a little more Sparkle. The same could go for musical performances paired with the relatively new boombox system.
