  1. Guess it's time to upgrade from my PS3.
  2. Knowing you need it I generally write up a premise for my characters up to the point where they are in the game. Think childhood, home situation ect. Usually a page or two worth which I keep in google docs. Then as I play I’ll usually write additions once a week or after major events. You’ll end up with a comprehensive story that logically follows your character’s continued existence in the game. For me it also helps when you leave for a long time and come back to figure out where you left your character. It’s personal preference though, but that’s usually how I end up with 25 page “background” stories. I don’t like making up an entire life so writing it as it happens cuts it up in smaller pieces that are true to the world we play in.
  3. It’s a big community, not everyone is going to walk down the avenue hand in hand. Just enjoy your piece of the pie and ignore the white noise.
  4. I’m not saying first responders should get CKed (unless they themselves want to) for responding. I’m saying that if they don’t, neither should the suspect.
  5. The way you word this makes it sound like you’re accusing Jopps of rulebreaking which I’m pretty sure didn’t happen. He didn’t just stop caring, it’s just what happened. He got in a shootout with cops just like many others do. The fact that he got put to death and forced to CK while nobody else was CKed is absolutely stupid considering the standard has always been a CK for a CK. Meaning that you can’t life or death someone unless they actually CKed someone. A PK whichever way should never justify a CK in this context. If it was something he chose for then okay, or if it was an admin intervention issue they should’ve just gone ahead with that route instead of pushing it through the courts. Like I said earlier, I think this is against the spirit of the server and isn’t at all a precedent we should be endorsing.
  6. There’s a car occupied with four gangbangers that just blew through an intersection in front of you. If you ignore them people complain about the lack of enforcement, you get fucked for not initiating a legitimate interdiction target to curb gang violence and told you’re a shitty cop that’s only waiting for shootout calls. If you pull them over instead you’re also a piece of shit powerhungry asshole that’s just out to get people. A robocop people over for “any reason” and get told to hang yourself. If you pull them over by yourself you’re failing to roleplay fear. If you call backup you’re abusing your resources to oppress illegal roleplayers. If you quickly wave and warn you’re a bad cop rper who’s only looking for shootouts. If you go through investigative phases as expected you’re a toxic asshole that’s out harass illegal players out of their time. I could literally go on for hours talking about the duality of extremes as far as opinions go that we literally can’t do anything right. That said; the standard (afaik) has always been that in order to charge someone for life or to death the victim needs to have CKed. If people are being CKed by the legal system for PK murders then that’s pretty fucking shitty, and I don’t think that’s in spirit with the law or the server. Adding to the discussion about fear RP; a cop that goes up to a gang of 10-15 people by themselves on their turf doesn’t need to be CKed, they shouldn’t be in any police faction to begin with. There are numerous ways where you can accidentally find yourself in the middle of a warzone without looking for it, and it’s part of the game that you die occasionally in the heat of battle. But people who do the type of shit people mentioned in this thread should be removed immediately. There’s just not understanding gang roleplay and then there’s being a malicious dick.
  7. Terrible system for reasons listed in the previous suggestions -9000
  8. Interesting takes all around. Something I find questionable though is the take that it’s suddenly bad roleplay to align to a particular party or political ideology solely based on the argument “but California”. Citing population statistics and voting polls has never been an accurate brush to paint entire zones. A character’s political values should be based entirely on the character themselves. Just because California is a Democratic stronghold doesn’t mean everyone has to roleplay enthusiastic politically activated civil rights advocates marching for equality. Los Angeles is a very diverse and complex place, with complex facets that one can’t even begin to fully comprehend unless they live in Los Angeles. And even then, being from LA doesn’t automatically make you an expert on everything involving LA. Decoupling LA from LS and accepting that things are largely not going to be interchangeable solves a lot of issues. That said, it is (and will always be) difficult for political roleplay to establish a fool proof filter to separate destructive or mixing hateful elements in the fold because the “voter bases” are quite literally anyone at anytime. As for the parties themselves, they seem to do a pretty good job keeping the worst idiots out. Regardless of characters, as players I think we enjoy a pretty solid system with great people who are genuinely dedicated to keep a complex system running in a pretty convincing way. As far as portrayal goes, they’ve done a great job making things appear much larger than they really are, given the people they have. The fact that we have a fully interactive legislative system with reactive laws and acts is something we used to wish for for the better part of a decade. It currently exists, and continues to exist, solely based on the time a bunch of volunteers wish to surrender in pursuit of it. People need to chill and appreciate what we have and are able to have, instead of complaining about things not being 1:1.
  9. I’ve never seen a car at the “employee only parking”, nor have I ever seen a sign of cim denoting it as such. Then again when I park I just drive my car through the front door, so I’m not sure.
  10. Lol. I’ve had admin scenes that led to nothing involving players who can’t write or comprehend English at a functional level. Players who are so dysfunctional they’re destructive to everyone around them, regardless of what environment they’re put into. When you report them you’re told to “take it to the forums”, no thank you. “But you have to report it!” Yeah, no. I’ll report something in game but that’s the extend of it. I shouldn’t have to write a whole report for someone who shouldn’t even have passed the application stage. Even if I was to report it nothing would happen. At best they’d get admin jailed, but it’s not like they’re gonna emerge back onto the server better for it. If anything they’ll just be even more obnoxious and troll the group that reported them.
  11. There’s literally a parking lot right next to the entrance but people are too lazy to park the 20 ft from the door, what makes you think they’ll park 150-200ft further away?
  12. Ah yes, who doesn’t love the ominous 4K high fidelity omnidirectional camera with facial and voice recognition software, 24/7 permanent recording, and easily accessible via the computer in your patrol car with the mere click of a button. This has never caused problems within the criminal justice system ever.
  13. Username: Mayhem Comment: The contract was cancelled months before the shooting. G6 had no business at that address.
  14. It’s a good concept. I’d just start out and experiment with different ways to portray your fights until you develop something that really works.
  15. Which is it? Opinions range in all directions and everyone has their references from where they stand in the community. But I’m genuinely curious if there’s anyone out there who wants and can provide evidence to mythbust the fact that firearms are shorted, where and why.
  16. Not opening 15 threads and just keeping your mouth shut won’t either. It’d be a different world if administrators publicly revisited the rules and worked with people in the community to find something that works. Or already let us know “hey this is something we’re working on”. But nah, instead IF we get anything at all it’s the occasional 15 second mention in a private admin meeting and a sudden change out of nowhere only to be forgotten for the next 45 days. 👍🏻
  17. It’s interesting you’d call it “bad roleplay”. I think it goes against the spirit of the server to roleplay some kind of edgy schitzoid stuck in the movie cliche throbs of cop PTSD because “Davis bad” or pretending to be some jarhead fighting in the streets of Fallujah. Yes shootings happened, yes you get in trouble if you fuck things up. But few things in the server recognize the frequency of shootings. The law and lawmakers don’t, command doesn’t, our infrastructure doesn’t either. Hell, if you go to psychological services you’d be put on leave. The conclusion of these scenes aren’t revered as something where lives were lost. The media doesn’t much care and beyond a few complaints here and there it’s very ignorable. I’m also not in the market for back-to-back shoot-cry-shoot cookie cutter CNR roleplay. I’ll dismiss it, and I’ll continue to dismiss it because that’s how the system works in the spirit of our mission and the server itself. And I’ll also continue to dismiss it because that’s the standard that’s been set in this game for years. There’s a difference between voiding roleplay and simply nullifying its value beyond the “it’s part of the game” and valueing meaningful interactions and development over that of a screeching NoPixel Roblox troll that just shot 30 people with aimbot. A DMEC blogpost has no impact on that, nor do 911 calls. The rule preventing you from going back on duty has nothing to do with that either. If it was widely valued and roleplayed I’d expect to see far more roleplay from the faction itself. Since I don’t see fundamental changes or recognition in that regard, and since I don’t see symptoms or lines to the medical offices because of psychological trauma I see no reason to suddenly stop.

  19. Sure you can. The high death ratio isn’t something that’s roleplayed. It’s consciously ignored by everyone. You don’t go to a coffee shop on your break talking about the 30 people who died on your shift. You just had a few stops and a few scenes here and there, maybe you elude to the chaos in the jungle but other than that it’s non existent. And why would you want it any other way? We’re all roleplaying in different ways at different depths, most of us take the game with a grain of salt. We accept that the deaths we see most frequently are part of this being a video game. We try to tell a story based in a real world setting as opposed to the crazy crack cocaine realm we have. I think that’s what sets us apart. You can go two ways, embrace the GTA matrix and turn into NGRP or anchor yourself trying the opposite.
  20. I’m yet to meet someone who roleplay every single death in either PD or SD. But I suppose in general it’s dependent on who you ask. I personally don’t really value PKs, and as far as the dead go I never roleplay it as the character but just “an officer” or “a suspect” and so forth. I’m not going to roleplay a buddy dying over and over again
