  1. +1 for making the LC server be 3 hours ahead of the LS server, or changing the LS server to be 3 hours behind. Assuming it is on the east coast, you'd need to account for time difference - especially since there may be a possibility to chat with players in LS while being in LC over facebrowser, mail, etc.
  2. Never had an issues with them personally. I've noticed the quality seems to gravitate towards LEO rejects (almost like the real security industry!) but I feel like unless someone is intentionally wanting to roleplay as a security guard, you're going to get that crowd of people, and no I'm not saying all the people in Bobcat, G6, etc are like that. For the people who complain about them acting like cops - you must not be from America. Security companies that make themselves up to be like police are very common and often its a selling point for their business. Generally as long as their uniforms say security then they're free to wear whatever they want.
  3. **Henry Tsai falls for the scam**
  4. Lex Waqqa and his gang taking over the scrapyard and charging people to get in. Definitely put a damper on scrapping stolen cars for components. Happened late 2013 or early 2014.
  5. This server seems so dead set on the California aesthetic but unwilling to deal with the shitty parts of California like high taxes, restrictive laws/government regulation, and heavy gun control. If it were up to me (the all knowing and all powerful), I'd just adopt as much of California as we feasibly can and then anything we DON'T like can be deviated from using IC means like the legislature changing laws, court rulings, etc.
  6. There seems to be a divide amongst the admin team regarding NPC calls. I was recently involved in a situation where 5 people jumped 1 guy at the Sandy Shores gas station on a Saturday at ~8:00pm. I made a report asking if an admin could do a NPC 911 call. I got told that admins don't do that and that it's on other players to call 911.
  7. >Tries crossing the road at night time >Wearing all black >gets creamed >"Why didn't anyone see me?!" 200 IQ move. This is an IC issue. Guy who hit you ran the red light traveling at mach 10. Your character was wearing dark clothing at night. Things like this happen IRL on a daily basis. Blaming it on the nameplate system seems misdirected.
  8. A server I played on in the past actually had a language system. When you made your character you chose their native language. If you wanted to learn a new language you had to "unlock" that language by either buying a language book from the library, or have an admin unlock it for you. Once unlocked, unless set to level 100 by the admin, you had to go around and use the language to "level it up", so to speak. So for example, lets say my character has english and spanish unlocked. I can toggle back and fourth between what language Im using with a simple command. If someone with a level 1 understanding of Spanish sees me talk all they see in the chatbox is basically gargled text like "Syrsfh Daailkb Afujs Fue?". But let's say they had worked there way up to something like level 50 spanish, they might be able to understand half of what I was saying. So it would become something like "I hatj wijn it rajnk becahure it floodh the strects". Then at level 100 they would see "I hate when it rains because it floods the streets". I suggested adding this in the past and a bunch of people complained that it was "ToO RpG LiKe FoR ThIS SeRvER" which translated to me as "I'm mad I won't be able to metagame". As someone who RPs a character who speaks spanish, it'd be nice to actually be able to not have conversations MG'd/PG'd by people.
  9. There seems to be a formula by which these threads occur... 1) Some kind of in game event occurs triggering a large police response. 2) Sometime during that event, things go south for the police and it's clear they might not be walking away victorious. 3) Admins intervene and RP is paused/voided (most events stop here). 3a) RP is unpaused and aloud to continue. 4) Police proceed "lose" in some capacity whether that be a large number of LEOs being injured or killed, mass destruction of one of their buildings, high profile suspects escaping the scene, etc. 5) Someone who carries water for one of the involved police factions makes a thread regarding the egregious injustice (in reality, a minor inconvenience) that occurred against the LEO RPers and why it's a dangerous precedent to set for the community. Community may or may not be in agreement about the initial posters claims. 6) People bitch back and forth for 10-15 pages then the thread either fizzles out or gets locked. 7) Nothing changes. 8) Cycle repeats itself in ~6 weeks.
  10. *Laughs in 100+ days of continuous riots in Portland last summer* LEO RPers routinely cause inconvenience for illegal RPers. The LEO RPers will be just fine if they're inconvenienced for a week while their station is renovated. This post reeks of being salty that admins didn't step in and secure a win for LEO factions like they're used to.
  11. Admins calling in on behalf of NPCs needs to be used more. This server has a weird phenomenon where nobody (figuratively speaking) calls 911. I've played on servers with lower pop that had higher 911 call volume than this server. Recently I was involved in a situation where a group of people were beating down a guy at the gas station in Sandy Shores. Realistically there'd be somebody out there who'd call 911. Made a report to see if we could get an NPC to report it to the police. Immediately closed with the excuse that a player can call 911 if they're witnessing it. Well problem is that basically everyone involved was an aggressor, poor dude stood no chance.
  12. Complimenting a neatly made chart and saying it would be cool if that information was shared more is not the same as demanding that it be done.
  13. I didn't know such metrics were tracked. Very cool. You guys should share these more often.
  14. @Bospy (Im on my phone and it freaks out when I try to quote you) Longevity and membership aside, what is it providing to the server that the LSPD and SAPR aren't already providing? Sure, the SAPR is the most junior of the 3 but lets say SD just got deleted off the server right now - would there be any noticeable impact?
  15. There's a lot more to the story he left out of his comment but that's whatever. It's all water under the bridge for me and I don't have any issues with @Jonesy because he was nothing but respectful to me during my time in the faction. I can't say the same for his command staff (who the comment was directed at during our disagreement where that comment was made). I made my initial post because I wanted his response because I knew he would likely give the best response unlike other members of the faction who came here to troll in response to the concerns. Like I stated, even though I'm not a member of the faction anymore it doesn't change that I still care about how players of the server view the faction and want it do well. Hell, I even went to bat for them in a thread a few weeks back when someone was complaining about stuff in the jail.
  16. Sorry if I worded it wrong and it came off that way. My concern about patrolling the county was basically the lack of visible presence and 911 calls going (seemingly) unanswered in the county. I don't have too much of a concern with SD patrolling in the city. I just think its weird because I thought one of their goals was to provide law enforcement services to the underserviced/rural parts of the county. Jonesy cleared that up above and said that was not one of the original goals of the faction. So I was running off false information. It sounds like, if I'm understanding right, that the SD is meant to mirror how the SD on LSRP operated versus being something different totally in it's entirety.
  17. I was "removed" because I told you in a private discord PM that your command staff can "suck start a shotgun". Don't try and portray it as anything else. That was the reason explicitly stated in the ban. I still have the screens of our entire conversation if you want me to share them. Regardless of that though, thank you for clearing up the issue with patrolling rural areas. I was always told that the SD was created with the intent of running the jail and policing the county but it sounds like that was false information from the get-go. As for the jail, sounds like the people I'm chatting with in the jail are the exception, not the rule. I'll point their complaints to this thread going forward. I don't doubt that there's been changes so its not impossible that I'm running off dated information, coupled with the complaints I'm hearing from my clients to have a blurred perception.
  18. In the current state of the server, what is the justification for the continued existence of this faction? It was my understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong) that two major selling points of the sheriff's department was that they would help police the county and run the jail. Let me expand further... 1) The jail continues to rarely be staffed, a problem that plagued the faction since I first joined it about this time last year. Yes, the faction does require every member to perform a certain number of hours in the jail but its not a secret that members intentionally try to complete those hours when inmate population is low, or entirely non-existent. The faction continues to refuse the idea of assigning people to full time jail duty. There was the attempt to do this via custody assistants but my understanding is that program essentially crumbled. Now, I will say that the SD does deserve credit where its due. The jail is a de facto dumping ground for trolls who get arrested in Davis that barely meet server standards. It can be hard to try and have legitimate jail RP when its full of idiots that just want to riot every 37 seconds. What is the faction doing to try and increase activity in the jail, so serious jail RPers can have a good or unique experience when coming to the jail? 2) As for policing the county, its rare (in my experience) to find the sheriff's actually patrolling out in places like Sandy or Paleto. Similar to the jail, this was a problem even when I joined the faction last year. I've been RPing in the county more on an alt and so far I can recall no less than 6 instances where I called 911 or non-emergency to report something happening in or around Sandy Shores, and nobody from the SD arrived. It seems the Park Rangers are actually becoming the pillar of law enforcement within the rural parts of the map. I wind up seeing them more in the county than the sheriff's. Now, I will say again, credit where its due because the county doesn't have a consistent population like the city. Some days the county is dead, other days its more active than Davis. Regardless, this doesn't excuse zero police response from the faction in what is the heart of its jurisdiction. Has there ever been consideration of requiring members to patrol a certain number of hours in the county to increase visibility there? With these two things above being noted, what incentive is there to stop server management from totally disbanding the SD and instead converting park rangers into Blaine County Sheriff's and creating a new DOC faction? It's sad to say that likely nothing would change aside from there being a lighter police presence in Davis but LSPD would quickly pick up that slack. I'm not making this thread to shit on the faction. Although I'm not a member anymore, I still care about the direction the faction is going and I don't want to see it go away. These are pain points that I see which could jeopardize the legitimacy of this faction in the long term. I thought I was alone in this opinions until I recently came back to the server and started RPing as a lawyer and began hearing the OOC opinions of my clients about the SD regarding both the jail, and their overall purpose here.
  19. Server needs more money sinks. Right now you get paid (with very little taken out for tax) and then just sits. In reality, people have various bills they have to pay. For example, in my real life I have to pay... - Rent - Utilities bills (water, electric, internet) - Personal bills (phone service, discord, netflix, etc.) - Insurance - Debt (car payment, credit card) - Gas for my car - Groceries I'd say I have a solid 30% of my paycheck left over after I pay my taxes and all my bills. Compare that to GTA:W where I get paid, and unless I'm renting a property, a solid 90% of my paycheck will be left over. The only way that money will get taken from you is if you get a speeding ticket or someone robs you. Income taxes need to increase, right now they are hilariously low. There needs to be a mechanism to pay for utilities (such as water and power) on properties. Right now, Aurum Energy is trying to get a power company up and running and has a voluntary option for people to pay power bills. It would be awesome if people had to automatically pay their power bills and it was some auto generated amount (like .025% of scripted property value + .005% for every hour spent in the interior). It would be nice if people actually had to eat so there would be an incentive to go buy food for your character (another money sink). There's many options on the table for getting extracting money from the server but its a matter of how badly people care to fix it. At this current rate, people get their hourly stimmy and that money just continues to get pumped into the system and it leads to hyperinflation.
  20. In the defense of PD, which I am not and have never been a member of, it is very easy to build a massive amount of wealth when the game has very little money sinks. In real life you have taxes, the cost of utilities, feeding and clothing yourself, debt, etc. This server has basically none of that.
  21. The actual killing of sex offenders is quite rare. They'll get taken off on and stomped down, but many inmates aren't willing to risk life unless you're in a level 5 where there's already tons of lifers with nothing to lose. Even in those situations, an actual homicide will still be rare. The state has a duty to care for the offenders in its custody. This whole thing about "checking paperwork" is largely a myth and/or outdated because the real at-risk sex offenders would never hit main line. They'd be caught by counselors and preemptively sent to some sort of PC ahead of time. The state isn't going to put a sex offender into a situation where they're gonna get beat down if they can help it because they'll get their pants sued off. Source: Worked as a prison guard in the US for a year before going back to college.
  22. Work for a financial institution doing physical security. Basically my job is to make it really hard for people like Deviant Ollam from getting into our buildings. Sometimes its called "blue teaming" but most people just call it physical security.
  23. Speaking as someone who used to be in the SD, the jail is horribly run - and that fault doesn't rest entirely on the shoulders of the faction. The vast majority of the problems occur with the inmate population who watched all of Wes Watson's videos and think prison is all about riding with your people and taking off on other races in the yard (hint: it's not). It is not uncommon to go into the jail as an SD member and find that literally all the inmates killed each other. The jail also becomes a dumping ground for troll criminals from Davis who demonstrate literally the bare minimum RP standards to be on the server. They aren't bad enough to be banned or sent back to the application, so they get dumped in the jail and then the SD is forced to babysit retards whose roleplay ability seems to be limited to "run in circles and spam left click while saying the N word". I've maintained for a long time that the majority of the inmate population is not responsible enough to engage in proper criminal RP so it needs to be heavily regulated. Riots and murders shouldn't be allowed to happen regular. Could the SD do better at running the jail? Yes. But they are doing the best they can given that they're handed a pile of shit and told to make it into a cake. It's unfortunate that your RP in the jail is limited but there's only so much the SD can do to combat the trolls and idiots, especially when it takes 20 minutes to have an admin report answered. By that time the trolls have already murdered 4 inmates and 2 guards.
  24. This kind of roleplay is too complex for the average player - who is more concerned about their multimillion dollar bank account they earned from hard work as a delivery truck driver. Not to mention carrying out criminal activity would potentially mean getting thrown in jail which means losing your CCW permit and at that point why even play the game? Being a criminal is also not advantageous for them because being in jail means you can't spend 7 hours locked in one of your 4 houses doing lesbian e-RP with the homies.
