  1. The Black Viper Society (Hēi dúshé shèhuì) Chinese crime organizations outside of China can vary in size and flexibility in operation and structure, including syndicates, triads, tongs, and gangs. Most organizations based out of China have links to mainland figures or previously mentioned groups, establishing connections and relationships to strengthen and mutually supply one another. These groups participate in a wide variety of crimes, including human trafficking, drug and arms smuggling, financial and other white-collar crimes, extortion, gambling, prostitution, and other violent crime. Chinatown, a small corner of Los Santos flourishing in all aspects of life in the city has had a heavy presence of organized crime since its founding. Immigrants flocking to the area for a sense of security and familiarity, Chinese American Association's founded on the principles of keeping together a strong community, falling to the grips of organized crime. Eventually becoming legal fronts for these groups, through money laundering, fraud, and other white-collar financial schemes. Over time several organizations have found themselves occupying the area and carrying out their business, whether legal or illegal in the area. With the recent power vacuum left behind in Los Santos Chinatown in the wake of major players being taken down either by gangland killings or arrests, with a major group now out of play and a vacancy left in the area, The Black Viper Society stepped in with an attempt to establish a new powerhouse to fill this role and gain from it throughout the process. Serpents are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. In the process of shedding their skin, they are renewing their life to continue prospering, leaving behind their past dead self, and starting anew. As with founding members of this organization, adaptation is a must, having been crippled previously in their former group these individuals have shed their skin to start again. The Black Viper Society is a new group that is founded in Los Santos, members mostly being Chinese individuals partaking in criminal activities for their own benefit. A group brought up on traditional values such as respect for their elders and brotherhood, wherein the veterans teach the newly recruited members the ways expected of them as they are slowly introduced into the secretive group. OOC Section This group aims to portray a realistic Chinese-American criminal organization and community-based in Chinatown/Mission Row. Though the primary focus is on Chinese members, other Asian ethnicities are welcome to roleplay with the group. We plan to give even focus on legal and illegal roleplay in the faction and community, as both play main parts in all character development and portrayal. Our goal is to continue the community roleplay in the area and see it thriving. Please focus on the upkeep of realistic character portrayal, any concerns internally or externally can be brought up to leadership. As a group, we will reserve the right to Character Kill any member who plans on partaking in the illegal activities of the group. If you wish to join the group, you must give permissions to @slump (slump#9999) and @Doosty (Doosty®#1337) upon joining. Please send a forum PM to both allowing CK perms before partaking in illegal activities with the group if you intend on it.

  5. Detailed Description The original request here was in reference to allowing taxi meters to be added to private vehicles via a garage or some similar option, if you had a valid taxi license. It also encompassed a number of vehicle requests/suggestions that would be valid for the line of work. Given the fact we're now on 1.1, it would make sense to consider some more of these. In fact there's a Los Santos taxi pack now on GTA5 mods that carries a great many lore vehicles with plenty of company liveries/signage (linked here). In updating this to properly match the template, I'm also asking for an overhaul to the taxi script itself. The last update, was that which added request numbers to the taxi system, adding to the difficulty of people who don't have active loggers/autohotkey to grab up fares. It seems to me that a distance-based or time-based dispatch system would be best. One which would first alert the closest taxi, the other which would send an alert in reverse order of who's most recently taken a job or been /paytaxi'd. There was, at one point, more control going to be leveled over the vehicles themselves, too. At one point there was discussion (alongside a dispatch system on these sort of basis) to allow manual control of the roof lights, which would be a great boon to show available/unavailable taxis. In addition to the above, I'd like to reiterate the original request for the use of standard vehicles. If you look at any major city in America, there are companies that work as 'taxi services' which use town cars or SUVs to get people around at slightly higher rate of fares. The closest we can get to something like that right now is to deck out a Victor in black, because every other taxi vehicle's base liveries are decked out with bordered letters. It would be interesting to see even taxi-fied versions of better base game vehicles, with fare functionality + a taxi certification/license sticker slapped on. Hell, there's a car in the game you can slap a taxi sign on the top of, but cannot be used as a cab. (Weeny Dynasty) Also worth addressing, albeit briefly, is the taxi meter bug, which to my knowledge still persists and ruins the ability to accurately measure cost/distance. Relevant Commands/Items The majority of the commands are there already. The main issue is allowing a better system for their use, in particular one that functions properly and gives everybody a fair shake. As for new commands, I'd ask for /rlight as a toggle for the roof light (or a basic hotkey/menu button), and commands associated with the furnishing of a vehicle with a taxi meter, if considerable. How will it benefit the server? I can't speak to the economy in the taxi world right now, it's been a little bit since I've done it. But I miss it greatly. The fact that it's still dealing with the same script issues, however, is what keeps me from considering going back. Well, that and the robberies. But that's an IC issue. Anyway, it would overhaul transportation RP in the server, and allow transport firms to expand themselves more fluidly. Further it would give taxi renters and generally people across the RP subset to have a better chance at RP itself, and enjoying themselves throughout. PS - This is an edited/updated post. Below in the spoiler is the original post.

  6. I’m uncertain where I want to start this as a whole, so let me just start with a simple “Thank You”. I’m so, so happy that I’ve found community within GTA:W and made a big family. Between the forums, Discord, and in game friends I’ve made, it’s crazy to think that I’ve only been a part of the server for going on four weeks now. I’ve met many people, and I have a hard time thinking of anybody that I wished I hadn’t met. Every one of you has brought with them some sort of positive experience for me, and I cherish you all for that. The last time I felt a belonging in a game like this was back in Rift, an MMO, when I first started Role-playing eight years ago. It’s been roughly six years since the last time I felt like I really belonged somewhere, and it’s all thanks to the amazing people I’ve met. This has become a proper family for me, and I never want to lose that. Even mods and Admins who usually shut themselves in from my experience have been so welcoming that it scared me. A good example would be @Wuhtah, whom I’ve had nothing but positive experiences dealing with. I’ve been able to /report the smallest things, and the admins didn’t bat an eye. They were just happy to help me with my silly issues. I ask a question in the support channel and I get honest answers or people doing their best to help me ASAP. Other communities I’ve joined just spend all of their time trolling no matter where you go. Don’t even get me started on the quality of Role-play I’ve found on the server, as well. Sure, there’ve been a few people who were a little rough around the edges, but everybody starts somewhere. For a server with people from all over the world and plenty of non-native English speakers? I’m shocked to find such high-quality play. So I say again... Thank you from the bottom of my heart for existing and being here. I've nothing but happy memories over these fours weeks of us spending time together, and I hope for an endless run.

  8. Because if you're not enjoying the job you're roleplaying working at in a game — why would you do it? Most people don't roleplay to simulate a 9-5 job and all the negatives that come with it. While it may be more 'realistic', it's not particularly fun. Playing video games is about fun, and being ultra realistic in this regard is merely only a nitpick that does not truly destroy or diminish the integrity or capability of roleplay.

  9. Because I want to roleplay an illegal character but I can't join 90% of the interesting faction concepts on that alt due to said illegaility and the OOC corruption rules. Also, factions which are reliant for /finvite are also shut out due to you only being able to be a part of one or the other. There are ton of combinations possible for interesting characters and establishing relations through them but it's shut out due to out of character rulings. The only faction right now who doesn't care for that, is the Port of Los Santos. It's a fun cesspool of illegal and legal characters and finds a lot of common grounds, and it is that way because a) it doesn't rely on a /finvite and b) it doesn't care about your character background.

  11. IDK why people argue semantics re: soccer's popularity in the US. No matter where it's ranked, it's still seen as a little girls sport (coincidentally the only people I knew who played it did when they were kids and they did have overprotective moms) and as "soft" (players diving). People aren't gonna watch Chelsea vs. Arsenal at 8 AM and the MLS sucks compared to other leagues. It does have its large following of course, but your average guy groups are gonna talk about football (Rams, Chargers, Raiders, 76ers, Cowboys, etc) and the other bigger sports. In-game it's the other way around. People that act like everyone should be talking about Mo Salah instead of Kyler Murray are just mixing their real life interests with those of their characters.
