  1. Reads the guide. Uh, three steps. You list three steps before you suggest "always aiming for a Character Kill" because "a PK makes it so the owner can continue running the business but you can't approach them." You think that people should be seeking to force CKs on the characters who people are passionately attempting to bring legal RP to this server with just because they did not let your character "win." Like, hey, dude, you seem like a nice guy and like you're trying to bring some good roleplay to this, but you're definitely misguided about this. What you're describing in this guide looks to me to be pretty play to win. Nothing here seems to show anything about providing any good roleplay. This just seems to be a checklist about what you should do to either get an income out of a business owner or to eventually CK them. Look, I get it, a lot of people on this community grew up watching mafia movies where extortion is a major plot point. It's Hollywood. Most of the mafia families they show doing this are from the 80s and earlier. A major plot point in the Sopranos was that their "old business" of extortion didn't work anymore. Knowing how much mafia RPers in GTA love Sopranos, I'm surprised so many of them ignore this. And most of all, I know most of us come from shittier roleplaying communities where "extortion" is considered just fine. Guys, it's time to grow up and move on. This is lazy, unoriginal roleplay which is a waste of time for everyone involved. Here is one of my first posts on this community which I think summarizes the issue pretty well: I've already spent dozens of paragraphs in the 3 last topics to come up about extortion about why it's unrealistic, uninteresting, disruptive, destructive, toxic, and ultimately makes this entire server weaker as a result. Extortion roleplay makes GTA:W walk a little bit closer towards being a cops and robbers server rather than a heavy RP experience set in 2021. We're not RPing in Belgrade, we're not RPing in Azerbaijan, We've talked about how there is no substantial evidence of organized crime syndicates exposing themselves to the massive amounts of risk by extorting businesses in modern day major American metropolises. You can find a lot of that discussion in How does someone get out of extortion? https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/?do=findComment&comment=349117 https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/?do=findComment&comment=349237 https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/?do=findComment&comment=349265 https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/?do=findComment&comment=349275 https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/?do=findComment&comment=352880 https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/?do=findComment&comment=352917 https://forum.gta.world/en/topic/38219-how-does-someone-get-out-of-extortion/page/12/?tab=comments#comment-353084 You can also find more discussion about why extortion roleplay is ridiculous, toxic, and abuses the limitations of our roleplay community to unrealistically dodge consequences. Like, SiMo, in this guide you actually dance around this issue: You multiple times talk about how connected the owner is with police. What you're really saying is how public of a legal figure is this person. This is the real world problem that has caused extortion to die out. It's simply too much heat for organized criminal ventures. These days, an unaffiliated common street thug is more likely to be attempting an extortion on a business (and getting arrested and sentenced for 10-20 years for it, womp womp) than an OCG. Real life organized crime groups today are not going to be engaging in extortion because it's a sure-fire way to end up destroying your organization. On our server, we still don't have RICO laws, and our police RPers have so much stuff wasting their time that spending hours and hours roleplaying investigations every single time some new shitty replaceable Eastern European criminal character goes "ehhh where is owner I needs the protective moneys for running buisnesses in my turfses" is not fun for them. Most criminal factions on this server have moved the fuck on. The best criminal RPers on this server have had their characters move on to more interesting and realistic avenues of roleplay. This comment in particular really, in my mind, encapsulates the problem here. This sounds to me like an OOC frustration you have with "the other" -- the other in this case being people who roleplay legal business owners. Welcome to the real world: Real life business owners make up the majority of wealthy people in the world. Many many years ago, yes, running a business in a major American city often meant you'd be visited by criminal interests demanding a slice of your profit. These days, not anymore. You're curmudgeoning about people RPing "tough guys" but the fact of the matter is that it's really not unusual for successful business owners in real life to be "tough guys." Because why wouldn't they be? The real world doesn't actually think criminals are cool outside of Hollywood. The cool people are the business owners--the ones who are their own bosses, who run businesses where people want to go, who are well-connected and well-known in the community, who are wealthy and well taken care of. I think one of the biggest problems with extortion RP on this server is that criminals are not roleplaying any fear of consequences. They're not roleplaying fear of powerful legal characters. You guys know the meta of GTA RP is just to PK/CK people and you know you're able to do that so you know you're able to always win. A well-roleplayed legal character will virtually never PK/CK anyone else. So you know you have an advantage and an easy way to "end" the roleplay if it ever gets too much for you. Why would any reasonably intelligent criminal who is trying to stay out of prison go out of their way to expose themselves to one of the most well-connected and wealthy people in the city and make an enemy out of them? Are you guys just not roleplaying any fear of the police because you know OOCly that the odds of any consequences falling on you are super slim, and even if they do, you're only looking at a slap on the wrists and 24-48 hours in jail? That's what it seems like to me. Again, SiMo, w're all just RPers here. I respect that you're trying to benefit this style of roleplay because it's clearly one you enjoy. But just because your character is from a 2nd world country where this kind of stuff might still be happening doesn't mean it's really realistic for this stuff to be happening in the US in 2021 in a city which represents one of the most wealthy cities in the entire world. Try considering the perspective that what you're ultimately doing is hijacking and sabotaging other people's roleplay. If you really care about good extortion roleplay, let's talk. I'll help you write a guide for how extortion might actually work in the modern world, and how real life criminal organizations even begin to approach this issue in today's day and age.

  2. Having any headshot and being in downed state should be a death. 1 or 100 damage, doesn't matter. To clarify: If you get shot in the face but you're not locked in the wounded state, you're fine to roleplay it as a graze or perhaps a ricochet clipping your ear or whatever you'd like. As long as you're still walking. But if you go down, even if it's a single headshot and no other damages, you're dead.

  7. Extortion Guide Organized Crime 1. Introduction Extortion is a common way for organized crime organizations to gain easy money from various businesses/offers that operate in certain area. Organized crime organizations establish their rule on a certain territory/turf based on their power, numbers, money etc. It does not necessarily mean that the organization will extort each and every business on their territory or that they will perform such actions at all. It all depends on the organization itself. 2. Approach Preparation for approach is one of the most important things for an organization. It is important that the organization gets as much information as possible. First step should be scouting the place out, it’s location, it’s surroundings, possible backdoors, exit points and such, it is also important for an organization to make sure that the business they are aiming for is actually on their territory/turf. First approach is usually done in casual way that does not give out a bad vibe about one’s personality or one’s goals. First approach depends on the type of the business. If it is a bar or a club, one should pose as a guest/customer. Order a drink, spend some time in the bar/club, scout it’s interior, see what kind of customers come by, is there any security, CCTV cameras and such. If the business is a car dealership, one can come and examine the offer, ask a few questions about vehicles, maybe even buy one. Same goes for other businesses. Interaction comes next. It is important that one gets information on who owns the property or manages it. One could simply talk to the waiter/waitress, start with a simple conversation and then ask who is the owner of the place. One could also talk to the security to find that out. Your aim is to find out owner’s name and phone number. It is VERY IMPORTANT to try and find out if the owner is connected to any criminal organization himself, or if he/she is having good relationship with Police Department/Sheriff Department. Any additional information such as owner’s vehicles, address, family is valuable. Presence is one thing that goes throughout the entire process of extortion. Organization must show it’s power by keeping their presence in certain area. That can be shown by simply spending time at various businesses. Buying something in the businesses, using their services and such. It can also be good to show presence with numbers. 3. Start Once the organization gains all the necessary information from above, they can make first step in contacting the owner/manager of the business and actually starting extorting/taxing it. It is highly recommended that first contact is done when the business is not operating actively. You can not make this step if there is witnesses around, such as security, customers, guests, CCTV cameras and such. It is recommended that you try and speak with the owner/manager privately. Location where the conversation will take place is not important as long as it’s done privately. It can be owner’s office, your office, secluded booth, excluded area… Appearance here is very important. It is important who is making this conversation. This means how one looks like, how one talks, how one behaves in general. Organization should not send a child/teenager/adolescent to make such a conversation. One should show off as a very official and professional. Two types of extortion is usually what organization is aiming for. One type is when the organization provides security for the business against any possible threats such as gangs, motorcycle clubs, different criminal organizations and such. The second type is when the business is simply paying for “peace” from that certain organization. In the second type the organization simply collects the money and does not pay any attention to the business afterwards. Conversation is very important. If one is professional then he/she can go straight to point. If all previous steps were done correctly, especially one about presence, it should go smooth. Asking for money depends on organization’s discretion. Depending on the business type, organization might ask from $1,000 to $25,000+ money per week (it can be done per month as well). A goal here is not to ask for a lot of money but to ask for a stable income. Keep in mind, if the owner does not profit, neither do you. (it is advised that organization keeps tabs on who pays and who does not) Organization should make sure that they collect on time, owners will not be happy if their debts accumulate due to organization’s inactivity. If an owner is not paying up to date, give him time before starting with threats & other activities. Keeping an eye on the owner that is paying is very important. You do not want an owner to go to the police or to seek help from any other criminal organization. If he does so, feel free to act upon it at your own discretion. Presence, as always, is important. 4. Denial If an owner denies the offer, one should not act upon and should simply leave the meeting. Presence should be kept up throughout entire process after denial as well. Sending a “message” is what an organization should do here. Organization should not go for damaging business immediately. Business does not operate > owner does not profit > no money for organization. First “message” should not be harsh. Sending off a threatening text message via new phone/calling with new phone number and sending threats is usually something one should begin with. If that does not work out then breaking a window, scratching owner’s car, painting the business or something of that sort should be next step. It is important that, after each step, you contact owner and give him another chance to pay. Owner is still not paying, worse actions should be made. Those involve shooting the business’ windows to send message. Burning a container outside the business/owner’s house. Sending threats to owner’s family/friends. Making bar fights. Scratching dealership vehicles and making them unsellable. Burning owner’s vehicle is also efficient. Keep in mind, you do not want to destroy the business yet. Crucial step is made if all of these steps did not work. This one includes burning down whole business/owner’s house. Can also be done with kidnapping an owner or a member of his/her family. Keep in mind that, burning a business down, may result in business being closed for decent amount of time, therefore, not making any profit. Last step is a final one, done if nothing above works. That is killing an owner or part of his/her family. This concludes the process of extortion that went wrong. Devices are useful in extortion as well, using trackers, bugs and such can give you advantage. (( OUT OF CHARACTER )) It is highly recommended to take screenshots/videos of each process of extortion from beginning. If the extortion goes bad for you, always AIM FOR CHARACTER KILL. Unfortunately, there are those who would simply deny your extortion request and try to force you to Player Kill in order to avoid extortion for next month or two. If you PK an owner, he/she will be opening the business afterwards but you will not be able to start the process all over again. For Character Kill you will need evidence of how you acted upon owner’s denial of your requests. Character Kills are usually approved if the evidence is firm, so be patient and always go for one. Owner's Perspective 1. Introduction As an owner, you can not always know if you are starting a business at someone’s territory/turf. You can always gather information about that prior to opening the business. However, in this guide we cover the process of extortion. 2. Security Security is an upmost necessity for business owner. Your goal here is to avoid criminal organization from even approaching you. Therefore, setting up CCTV cameras, alarm system and even hiring the security should do the trick. 3. Affiliation Affiliating yourself with different criminal organization could also be beneficial. However, keep in mind that it could cause disturbances and possible war over a few thousands per week. Different type of affiliation is affiliating yourself with Police Department/Sheriff’s Department. To “lure” them you can make discounts just for deputies/officers so they keep presence around. If you’re suspicious of being under surveillance by criminal organization, make them see you with officers/deputies as much as possible, even go to LSPD/Sheriff’s Department events. 4. Avoiding Avoiding meetings that seem suspicious to you is not actually good tactic, eventually the extorters will contact you or will jump immediately to threats and signs of violence. You want to void that, so, in case, a meeting is scheduled, pick a public place and bring security with yourself. With that tactic you put extorter into a position in which he can not even clarify his/her demands. 5. Extortion If extortion really happens and you are unprepared, start paying the “tax/community service”, buy yourself time. Calculate whether it is profitable to keep the business up even with paying extorters or not. At the end, making so much hassle because of ten grand a week is just not worth it. If you decide to get rid of extorters you can either hire different criminal organization or go to Police Department/Sheriff’s Department. Keep in mind, no-one can protect you 24/7 and the extorters will certainly find your weak spot. At the end, your business is stationary, you can not protect it from being broken to, burglarized or even burnt to ground. Having your business closed for 2 weeks for renovation will cost you much more than paying weekly taxes. If you decide to go to different group, they will not help you for free and risk their men and resources. Finally, it is nothing but calculation. ((OUT OF CHARACTER)) Portray this realistically, if you own a club, dealership, store, bar or such, you probably have enough money to pay the taxes. If you drive expensive vehicles, have expensive suits, it means you have money ICly and that is how people will portray you. “Playing a tough guy” with over $500,000 in bank and without being a part of any criminal organization is simply not totally realistic. Paying an extorter does not mean you’re losing reputation. At the end, you will boost your reputation OOCly in the illegal factions’ world if you roleplay this nicely.

  8. Hey guys, As of lately I haven't really been posting any messages on this thread as I was busy with changing things internally and I haven't really been keeping an eye on the general forums. With that being said, it was my last day serving as the Faction Leader of the LSPD. We attempted and somewhat managed to accomplish a few goals we outlined in the past and attempted to meet the community's demands to portray a more realistic police department, compared to what we were in the past. It was a tough road internally and it is quite hard to change the mindset in a faction with over 150 members. We still got a lot of support and I would be lying if I said our roleplay improved a lot. Every faction has its bad apples but the image is important and we weren't there yet. I do know a lot of faction members tried to change this image and tried to be a more approachable and realistic department from a community POV, despite what some faction members internally wanted. I made an agreement with Server Management to accomplish this goal with their support and they have given me the chance and space to do so. I do want to thank @Nervous and @Notbond for the chance they gave me to lead this amazing faction and I want to give a special thanks to @Jester. for all his support, guidance. I could always rely on him and he was and still is a great help towards the faction. Continue what we started and don't let our work go to waste.

  9. You're being sarcastic, but the irony is we already have to do exactly this. We get it, most criminal factions just score their businesses from buying them off of legal RPers, and just pass them around for generation to generation where the businesses progressively become casinos over time. But if you want to open a brand new business on this server, you do have to apply for it. In addition to your character ICly having to develop to the point that you can open the business and gathering the funds, you OOCly have to write a lengthy application, wait in a long line, and prepare to be fully audited on all of your assets and portrayal. Then, you need to do all the IC and OOC work of getting the business licensed, registered with the Department of Finance, mapped/decorated, up to Fire Code, inspected, approved, and only then do you start the IC and OOC work of hiring staff for the business (which if you're not part of a criminal faction means recruiting brand new people), training them, advertising, stocking up the business, and then actually running it. For my brewery, I wrote a 4-page application, waited 3 weeks for a response, was denied my first time around, had to reapply, waited another two weeks, had to personally speak with the PM team and plead my case, finally got accepted. That's just to get the business, not even including all the dozens or hundreds of hours I've spent researching how breweries operate, recruiting and training staff to elevate the roleplay quality around liquor on this server, and all the busy work of actually RPing the business. And yet I'm the poor RPer because I'm annoyed Generic European Gangster #417 with less than 100 hours of play time on his character walks in while I'm open and we have 30 people inside roleplaying and we're trying to run something that's fun for EVERYONE on the server to try to hijack the scene about how big bad of a gangster he is and why this large business owes some two-bit greasy spoon operation headquartered out of a hole in the wall coffee shop weekly taxes. And my best case scenario of getting the dude in trouble means he goes to jail for 24 real life hours, and he's back out on the street the next day, and the rest of his faction of Generic European Gangster #329, #516, #72, and #229 will now be hunting for my character everywhere I go. And then these guys post a guide on the forums which says your third step if the business owner doesn't immediately fall on their knees to fellate you, you should pursue a Character Kill on them because "PKing them just means they'll keep opening the business and you can't extort them again." So the literally hundreds of real life hours I've spent on creating a business which brings me almost no asset-wise profit but is all about providing roleplay for upwards of 200-300 people on the server should be thrown out the window because I didn't stroke some lonely criminal RPer's ego enough when he's too lazy or unoriginal to come up with more creative interesting and frankly fun things to do with his time on the server. You say criminals are stuck doing the same 4 avenues of RP? That only speaks to a lack of creativity. Roleplay is endless and infinite; your only bounds are how creative and interesting you and your friends are. tl;dr: My character's business alone probably has more hours of character development and research effort put into it than your entire character. And my character's business is here to make the server better for everyone, and to build roleplay for all people whether they're legal, illegal, or anything in between. Extortion is just a selfish, unoriginal, play2win cash grab for someone trying to stroke their insecure ego, and we see time and time again that the players who still support extortion RP tend to be incredibly toxic, assets-driven, and just generally have poor grasps on what's realistic or reasonable, caring only about winning.
