  1. Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Staff Update. This month has been a very busy time for the entire team, especially with certain Administrators returning to school. We'd like to apologize for any recent delayed response times you may have experienced. We will be continuing to build and improve as a team in order to increase our efficiency. Do note though, our staff members work very hard nonetheless and deserve some appreciation, make sure to keep that in mind when dealing with any member of the staff team. Very notably, this month we had the server's first political elections! This was our first time running these elections and we will continue to build on the system and improve it. We thank everyone who participated and has provided us with feedback. It was great to see the engagement from the community and we hope to see the engagement only improve as the system further develops. Make sure to thank @Static and Legal FM for their hard work to get these elections up and running. Election Results: Central District - Alex Flynn - (R) Western District - Tanya Sun (D) Northern District - Jonathan Spencer (R) Eastern District - George Valencia (D) Southern District - Wallace Abbasi (D) Blaine District - Joseph Hoffman (R) LSNN Article: We look forward to the upcoming month with our brand new staff members and wish everyone returning to school the best of luck. 5. Hello, I am suggesting to limit RNG (/coin, /roll, etc) RP’s usage to only certain situations. It is very weird to see people use /coin as a way to decide an outcome of their /mes and it's common to see people use it in every situation and try to say as long as they got heads then they win. People should instead roleplay out the situation and think of how their character would realistically perform, rather than relying on the script. This also isn't /coin's intended purpose. Edit: Using /coin or /rnumber in situations like playing pool or sports games ICly should be fine. It should depend on the situation but definitely shouldn't be used in many circumstances at all. Edit 2: On second thoughts I wouldn’t mind keeping this if all parties involved in the RP consented to it OOC. This way, everyone is happy. This was how it works on most Gmod text based RP servers.

  7. I'll put this issue to bed for the time being so people can get a clear answer to what IFM want. We're currently drafting a list of "continuity-approved" ideas, although it won't be exhaustive. But beyond that, I'll explain why our rules are more rigorous than other communities. For all the people in this thread complaining about the lack of freedom provided by faction management, if we went with the alternative route there would be a significantly larger thread complaining about the lack of guidance or realism espoused in factions. Cults, fictional multiracial gangs, and Yakuza will probably not exist on this server so long as this current branch of IFM is in power. I do not foresee that changing any time in the future. We are a serious roleplay server. The Yakuza does not directly conduct street operations in Los Angeles, they use Asian street gangs to do their dirty work, especially Vietnamese gangsters. If you want to roleplay Yakuza, it might be able to be done in very highly contextual cases, but often times what we're presented is a bad representation. We have already established within continuity that Los Santos is a fictional analogue to Los Angeles, and therefore if it does not exist in Los Angeles or within close proximity to it (e.g. with the case of the Fresno Bulldogs existing in Paleto Bay), then it is unlikely we will approve it. To the naysayers saying that we have "our own thing," yes, we do, but the exceptions we make for fictional enterprises are few and far between and reliant on our trust in the individuals behind the project to execute it. Transnational crime or fictional organized crime is sometimes given an exception for one-off chances, but often times these chances are expended by bad roleplay or inactivity. Criminal roleplayers as it is enjoy our curation and would complain if we permitted the existence of cults and Chicago gangs. Maybe some people advocate for Nortenos and other gangs similar to that, but we're not approving those simply because it'd be a blood bath. The one Norteno gang would not have much to do beyond bait the presently existing factions into gunfights. That aside, Nortenos are not necessarily a huge influence in SoCal in real life. None of ideas presented to IFM are ever particularly unique, I have seen many hundreds of factions submitted following the same formulaic process. What makes a faction better than any other faction is mindset, not the ethnicity of the characters or the methods they used to induct their members. If the focus is on good roleplay, that's all that matters. Most ideas have been done or executed, often times poorly. Our oversight is actually very minimal beyond the approval process. The approval process is very rigorous just so that we do not need to provide so much oversight when the factions do exist. This is in contrast to other communities wherein there was essentially a reactive staff team responsible for moderation, and therefore they were always behind the curve on catching rulebreakers and trolls. By making the faction approval process subordinate to a strict selection standard, it allows us to be proactive in finding rule breakers. One of the most harmful things for a roleplay server of the nature of GTAW is a bad faction. Forget deathmatching. Forget hacking. If you can legitimize a faction and adhere to the faction regulations, you can habitually line step. You can use your faction as a justification for deathmatching, because IFM reports are always long and require historical context. You can use your faction to abuse the script and sell assets. You can use your faction to destroy roleplay quality by inducting bad roleplayers. There is nothing more harmful, in my opinion, than a 30 member faction composed of terrible roleplayers. "Fleshing out" is subjective, as is the nature of every faction. Our ideas for continuity are currently being charted by a team of players, not staff members, who will eventually present their findings. But the reason we have not presented a strict limitation for "continuity" thus far is just so unique ideas may be presented. It just so happens that many unique ideas also unfortunately end up being rather trashy or unrealistic. A British football firm would not fit in our setting. A cult wouldn't fit in our setting. How is a cult that sacrifices people to Tchernobog supposed to interact in jail with a hardened Latino gang member demanding they respect the rigorous racial segregation rules of the setting? Some ideas might fit in our setting depending on the context, but we don't entertain them because to do so would establish bad precedent. Creating a faction on this server is a great privilege, but it is certainly not a right. Especially considering the script support and quality assurance we have, we want the very best faction leaders and roleplayers creating factions. We cannot have a substantial number of low quality factions of a dubious nature, or it would degrade the overall quality of roleplay on the server. Anyone is welcome to submit a faction idea, or even spitball with IFM over faction ideas, but there is no guarantee they'll be accepted. Beyond that, people should be able to dive into our faction archive and see a list of threads with pages of excellent roleplay material, with no doubt in their mind that each page has some redeemable quality to it. What's the point of allowing open faction creation when many of those factions would be dead within a week?

The video is done for roleplay purposes only. It must be taken as an IC movie trailer, a real video with real special effects. The Video shows SS of roleplay, but that's an OOC thing. 10. Im 50-50, some people could argue in a way that using coin or some other coincidence method allows them to somewhat have unique RP, to decide what their character would do or not. E.g. /me tries to grab Jane Doe by her arm holding her down. Then jane does /me tries to dodge the grab. /coin If heads she manages to dodge if tails then she failed. Its making such RP more fair for both parties imo.

  13. “If you never tell anyone the truth about yourself, eventually you start to forget. The love, the heartbreak, the joy, the despair, the things I did that were good, the things I did that were shameful--if I kept them all inside, my memories of them would start to disappear. And then I would disappear.” ― Cassandra Clare

  14. So I worked in the gun business for a long time. And I saw a lot of bangers come buy guns, and I saw a lot of bangers come sell guns back to me. You're so far off the mark with this statement it made me laugh out loud. Gangbangers aren't buying Glocks with compensators and crimson trace setups. They're buying what's cheap. Seeing some banger with a flashy piece in a movie or a Nat Geo documentary isn't what "most" people do. Another pretty baseless statement. First off, ammunition is not an attachment, Second, hollow points, not hollow tips. I don't care what the rappers say. Third, you're not getting the whole being a poor gangbanger thing. It's a money thing again. Tell me if you're a poor gangbanger, what are you buying? 20 rounds for 30 bucks? Or 50 rounds for 21-23 bucks? There three kickers here. First one is that is actually going to help you against a cop with a rifle. And two, if hollow points get distributed the factions, you know that PD is getting them too. Hell I can drive down to any sporting goods store and buy a box of Hydra Shoks or some Cor Bon and be good. If it's that easy to get them, you know the legal factions are getting them too. The third, and my favorite kicker on this unresearched, not very well written proposal. None of what you asked for is illegal. You asked for lasers and, sights, and extended mags. I guess a suppressor could fall under "all types of other stuff" but I'm not really going to include it since you didn't and given the content above, I'm almost 100% positive you have no idea what the process is to get a suppressor. And that's okay. But you should also understand that it's not as simple as ordering it off the internet. So I support the distribution of some attachments. But to make the claim that every banger is carrying around some souped up piece with all that on it, it's incorrect. Does it happen? Sure. Is it the norm? Absolutely not. I reverse image searched both of those images you posted. And I realize you might have got them from discord but they both hit back with a big presence on tumblr. Tumblr is not a good place to do your research.

  18. If I had the time I would, and I might be able to piece one together eventually. But a problem with reporting - even the admins don't know sometimes. And that's not their fault. Because a lot of them probably don't have exposure to the stuff. To some people, pulling a Skorpion from the waist band of your skinny jeans seems plausible because they've never held a Skorpion in hand or tried to carry one. They used to come with leather scabbards to carry on your belt for a reason. But people don't get that.
