  1. It's an unfair playing field, once an illegal faction decides to extort your businesses. You have two options, you get CK'd or you pay. If you don't pay, anything else you will do will result in your character being character killed. You go to the police? You get killed for snitching. You go take matters into your own hands? You'll eventually get CK'd as retaliation. If you haven't already been CK'd for "unrealistic character portrayal" because "You wouldn't do that to a big bad mob" criminal characters have such a hugely unfair advantage due to this that there has to be something done about this. We need to even the playing field in regard to this, in my opinion if someone comes to your business to extort it they are willingly putting themselves in either danger of law enforcement or getting killed themselves. If business owners can eventually be CK'd for not bowing down to an illegal organisation then those people who attempt said extortion should also immediately give their CK permission to that business owner for KNOWINGLY putting themselves at risk. (You can hardly make a CK application on a mobster if you roleplay a regular civilian/businessman, there's 0 chance that'll be accepted) Not only will this mean things are more fair on an OOC level, it will also force characters to be more sensible and responsible as to who they extort and how they do it. (You can extort anonymously too, forcing people to pay money in bitcoins etc, leaving notes behind, many ways to go about it without exposing your identity) Coming to a business with 12 man deep where there's CCTV cameras and whatever, beating up the business owner and demanding money because you know you can CK them if they go to the police is simply abusing a loop hole to make your character even more empowered than he already is. The people doing the extortion risk nothing except for possibly a criminal charge in which you can simply CK the person that snitched on you which doesn't hold the same weight or value at all. If this doesn't get addressed OOCly, you will have happen what some people here already suggested. People will eventually quit roleplaying normal civilian like characters because it means being pushed into submission. You will soon end up in the same environment another specific community ended up in where it becomes Gotham City roleplay and every other person you come across is a bad ass criminal you can't fuck with. And you'll ruin the criminal scene on the server because you no longer have civilians to interact with. Everyone will be sick of being pushed into submission for simply portraying a regular bloke with a small humble business. Every person you'll come across will be billy bad ass who happens to be a serial killer too and if you stare at him the wrong way he'll shank you. Obviously, I'm exaggerating but people will definitely prefer an illegal character over a legal one simply because they're tired of being pushed around without any serious way to fight back and stay loyal and true to your characters personality and portrayal. TL;DR, if you're knowingly putting yourself in harms way, the same way as trying to shoot it out with 10 cops. Or refusing to cooperate in a robbery. You should be subject to a CK yourself. If you cannot accept the fact your character can be character killed over such a hostile action (Extortion is an extremely hostile action) then perhaps you should reconsider doing those actions. Like you would in real life too. Role play realistically and value your characters safety and life as we all should. This is what creates immersion and a more realistic environment. I am speaking from a lot of experience on this matter, this is no longer an IC issue.

  2. Psychologist and Patient roleplay Hello everyone. In this guide I will try my best to give you an overview of how to roleplay a Psychologist and also how to interact with one if you decide to roleplay a patient. What is a Psychologist and what does he/she study? A psychologist studies normal and abnormal mental states, perceptual, cognitive, emotional, and social processes and behavior by experimenting with, and observing, interpreting, and recording how individuals relate to one another and to their environments. What does this mean? A psychologist technically is someone who even has the authority to conduct social experiments for research purposes, if allowed by the Psychologists Ethics Board. A Psychologists can be anyone. That tittle can be claimed by anyone and can be used to scam if the person wishes too. Now how to confirm if someone is a proper psychologist, and he/she is actually roleplaying a good intent? Usually the prefered terms are Clinical Psychologist and Counseling Psychologist. Anyone who uses such tittle for himself and still tends to scam or do it only for money should be reported for poor portrayal. Now, what is the difference? Anyone who has a level of BA(Bachelor) education, can be a psychologist, but to be a Clinical Psychologist or Counseling Psychologist you require a level of Phd(Doctorate), which usually takes up to 9 years to finish. What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist? (Patients read this) Usually players tend to create character with symptoms that sometimes a psychologist can't help with. This happens because of the misconception that comes with the before mentioned terms. We already mentioned above what is a Psychologist, but what about the Psychiatrist? A Psychiatrist is someone who treats mental health conditions like, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and addiction. Psychiatrist are medical doctors, psychologists are not. Psychiatrists prescribe medication, psychologists can't. Psychiatrists diagnose illness, manage treatment and provide a range of therapies for complex and serious mental illness. Psychologists focus on providing psychotherapy (talk therapy) to help patients. Great! Now you know how to tell the difference. How to get started? Now that you've accumulated the information above, you're ready to create a character and dive into the roleplay. Well no! Sadly a psychologist needs a workspace. You'll need an office, that can have at least a couch and a sofa. If you already have those it's awesome, but if you don't, there are a few options. First you can rent a place. Working from home is a great solution. If you're looking forward to be more appealing, then it's best if you have an office. Those can be easily obtained with a lease request forwarded to Property Management through the UCP system, and they're affordable. Another option is working somewhere. The server currently has many options for you to get started. Factions like Government and Police Department usually open their applications for civil positions, where they will require a psychologist. Another way to work for someone is a clinic. Players open private clinics, like Hope Health Clinic for example, and they tend to hire a wide range of staff, in order to have a variety of employees with one field of expertise. "I have a workplace, what do I do now?" When working by yourself, in your house or office, you'll need to start advertising your activity. Make sure to leave your phone number. What is important is not to overlap appointments. Set rules for yourself. How long do you want the sessions? How much will you charge per session? That is, if you'll work by yourself. Now when working for others you don't have much freedom. Let's work with the three examples. Government, PD, and Clinics. In government you'll be hired by the Public Social Services department. You will answer to a director and what needs he or she will have. There will be times that you will be called for projects. ICly you will be needed to provide your point of view on a project that will impact the civil populace and give your opinion on what is more benefitial for them. Another duty you will have is the welfare of staff. Being reponsible for employees mental health and stability is a psychologists job. I will not mention PD as the only job you have there is the welfare of staff. Now when it comes private clinics, you will be provided with a workspace. The owner/manager will advertise the clinic as a whole. If there are patients that will require a psychologist, you should be up to the task for it. Working alone is nice, but I recommend working with others as it gives more dynamic to your roleplay. None the less, it's your choice and your style of roleplay. "I have a patient!" (Patients read this) Great! Now you have a patient. If you're lucky the patient is someone who has visible symptoms and is expressive with his behavior, and you're able to finalize a diagnosis. But what if the patient is not that cooperative? Well you start making basic and simple question like, "Why are you here?" "What do you think is wrong with you?". If you're someone who can come up with better solution of how to make someone talk is even better. What I would suggest is that you, as the psychologist, use a fair amount of /do that would ask for any visible trait, or for any repetitive behavior. Anything that might give you a lead and start tracking down the root of the problem. On the other hand you have to expect the player behind the patient to give you a lead. This is a very delicate roleplay, and if the patient decides to roleplay a cold attitude, no generic behaviors, blank facial expression and give short cut answers, then you have no chance of breaking down that patient. It's not the psychologist foult, it's the patients. You patients roleplay have to realise that this type of roleplay is to help your characters. If you decide to give nothing about your character to the person roleplay a psychologist, then there is nothing we can do. In game is really hard to decipher a characters mind, so you have to be collaborative. Just a little paragraph as why I should be a reliable guide. I've roleplayed as a Psychologist for a while now. I'm currently roleplaying as part of government, a volunteer in a lower class clinic, and I take private appointments. I've doing this for the past 6 months. Meanwhile in real life, I've studied 1 years Human Behavior. A part in the field of psychology that explains why a person acts a certain way, or why a person does a simple action like standing, in a specific way. My knowledge is not on an academic level, but I've practiced for a while. I hope this guide can help those who want to roleplay a psychologist or those who want to roleplay a patient. Thank you for reading.

  3. Should really just ring the cops! If you're being extorted, threatened, harassed, and you're a civilian? If you really feel like there is no way to escape your circumstances, I'm sure there are plenty of detectives who would love to hear about your problems, who's causing them, etc. There are a multitude of ways to escape your difficult circumstances, and though I understand it can be frustrating to be throwing away your character's hard earned cash, you also need to realize; this is a role-playing server, what happens to your character is what happens to your character. If you've invested your time in grinding out money rather than investing your time in genuine role-play? Shame on you, it deserves to be taken! Why not take an alternative approach, befriend these people, get involved in some way? That's the beautiful thing about role play, you can solve your problems in hundreds of different ways, there is not just one path that can be gone down. For those of you asking for OOC intervention because you are so hopeless? I can't help but laugh at you.

  4. Thank you so much for the kind words. When I made Sakura, I made her just because I wanted to create something new and unique from a sex worker's background to see how hard of a challenge it'd be, both mentally and physically to disconnect from that kind of life. I made her around the end of January I'd say and I would've never thought that she'd have got this far and kept being interesting for me to play. It went from coming to Los Santos to pursue a more elegant lifestyle, something that probably everyone dreamt about at one point to doubting her employment and what she was doing with her life, to dealing with the loss of the only real friend that she had. Now that Samantha Falcone (@Frezemis) character had passed away, I aimed to create the deep delving side of what a person would go through - whilst sticking to the realism of life. Usually when things like these happen ingame, it either results in somebody turning into a total psychopath OR they end up killing themselves. Just note that when Samantha's talking to her in these scenarios, it's not because she's communicating with a ghost. It's her mind still not letting go that Samantha Falcone was gone and to never return. She's still alive in Sakura's head, even when she watched her get wheeled away on a gurney with a white sheet over her. Thanks again, I really really appreciate the feedback.

  5. Personally i have been doing extortion for a few months now and for me it's not about money, i don't ask for 20k a week or anything close to that, for me it's all about the roleplay. I encourage for these "civilians" to use my/factions services if they have an issue. Not going to point at anyone but if you are being harassed or simply don't like someone and you want them "beat up" why not reach out to these criminal contacts and have them do it for you. Too many people see extortion as "omg i should stay away from them" while at least in roleplay we actually want to be called to deal with these issues because it provides roleplay. At the end of the day no one is preventing you from calling the police and snitching, but you should be smart about it because yes you could end up cked depending on how severe the situation is. You have all the options in the world and if you don't feel like PD is going to help you then obviously your choice is clear. Also, people need to stop being greedy, all these businesses make 20k per opening at least. And being charged something like 5k a week when your total earnings are 100k a week that's nothing in compared to the roleplay that the situation can provide but you need to seek that roleplay. If the faction is not "stupid" they will gladly engage with you and see what can happen and where things can go. Just because someone is a criminal it doesn't mean they are a criminal 24/7 doesn't mean they dont do legal things or that they don't have a legal or social life they are humans with human things to do In my opinion as a criminal this should not be a thing, it's not how it works in real life and these "opening times" are basically mixing ic/ooc. I find it very unrealistic that someone would ask "hey dont open tonight" because in reality they are extorting you and REALISTICALLY they would be hurting their own pocket by limiting your business.

  6. There's a popular belief that somehow in 2020 extortion is extinct. This is an utter farce. Take a look at any major organized crime take-down in the last decade; extortion is typically within the first of the crimes mentioned in many different indictments. Is it possibly too common in Los Santos? Yeah, I would lean to agree with that. However that has to do with the fact that the balance of civilians to criminal types is pushed too far to the criminal side which leaves us with a twisted ratio. Policing is also an issue, but that's IC. Also the city isn't as large as it is in real life which leaves a fraction of the space on the map for stores and shops to exist, and also forces criminal groups to take a majority of the map where as in real life due to the larger geography, there'd be more zones that have no occupation or "turf." If you read up on LA, the extortion that happens is typically through major businesses such as the porn industry OR it's in immigrant communities within the city. Most immigrant communities stick to their own people and they're very tight knit - meaning they're going to feel more pressure from their own people to act a certain way. Criminals take advantage of that knowing that for instance: a fresh Mexican immigrant family isn't going to run to the police when their shop is extorted because they don't trust the police. Which is why they likely consider getting protection in the first place, for fear that prejudice would leave them screwed if they were ever robbed or vandalized. As much as we want to, we can't genuinely replicate that in our city. The problem that I see mostly is groups going too far out of their reach to commit extortion. If there's a highly popular, well profitable business that's on a particular block where you operate? 100% it makes sense that your crew would want a piece of it. HOWEVER driving half way across the city to extort a club that's nowhere near you or your people? I suggest you read up on extortion and figure your shit out, because that's not right. Ideally what would be the case is there would be more diverse civilians that would have backgrounds that align with certain groups, I'll use my own faction as an example. In Little Armenia (Morningwood) we mostly get random Caucasians (an alarming number are young females which goes back to what @Bek mentioned on the previous page) setting up businesses in an ethnic enclave. In real life, these properties would be owned by immigrants mostly of a similar background to our group. Thus, we would target our own people knowing that they'd be more likely to come to an agreement with us due to our shared heritage - and less likely to run to the police in fear of becoming labeled as something nasty in our little community. Instead we deal with what exists. There's not many avenues of criminal earning that can be done in game due to the script restrictions. Unfortunately extortion is one of the biggest earning rackets that we can rely upon in game. TL;DR the city demographics are not set up in a way to realistically portray how (most) extortion happens irl. The high rates of extortion are an IC problem and unfortunately it's not going away.

  8. Short description: Property alarms should be capable of sending more SMSes to several contacts and/or tenants of the property. Detailed description: Basically what I already stated above. It'd increase the amount of RP and properties could also be broken into if one of the tenants is online as, if the owner added them to the emergency contacts of the alarm, and the alarm is capable of sending a SMS to the owner, they could intervene too. Commands to add: /addalarmcontact [number] /removealarmcontact [number] Items to add: N/A How would your suggestion improve the server? It would make the burglary RP more dynamic as a property could be broken into if one of the tenants is online as well and more people would actively seek to buy an alarm, increasing the risk in general, I'd say that it's a logical step anyway, especially if someone is renting most of their properties out without using them for themselves. Additional information: N/A

  10. I think the current rules are fine, but I am not aware of the actual reasoning that would justify burning down a building and how severe/lenient it is. Not being able to operate your business for 14 days is a lot of time. Completely removing a business from you, especially if you are not even affiliated with an illegal faction, would be very severe in my opinion.

  12. While I appreciate the way you are going on about doing it, from what I hear, not everyone treats it the same way. This is where my concern honestly lies, those business owners are at the mercy of how the illegal factions decide to go on about handling things. I've seen multiple businesses being extorted to change their opening times, and once they didn't comply, they got kidnapped / their shop got vandalized etc. I've also seen businesses getting extorted to not compete with certain companies/businesses through enforcing certain policies on them. Additionally, not every illegal faction is ignoring the money aspect of it. I've heard of factions that charge way more for businesses that are much less profitable simply due to their nature. Also, those businesses have a lot of other expenses that eat into that 100k they might make by the end of the month. Liquor? Lease? Security? Extortion? It adds up.

  14. Extortion in and of itself is common. However, what I always suggest is to have a valid and realistic escalation. Coming in to say "Hello, please pay us." only to "Well, they didn't pay so we burned their business and killed everyone that came near it." is just a very unrealistic portrayal. Come in, offer people your 'services'. If they refuse, give them reasons to think they actually /need/ your services. Send people to ruin their openings, smash windows etc., have them think that security is necessary. Burning a place down over that is overkill and unrealistic.

  15. Yeah no, Massive -1 Removing crosshairs will only make it so that people download programs to have one, and it will just cause more arguments and crying. I've seen that happen in various communities and it never ended well. Adding recoil would be a welcome update though.

  16. I expect regular events, political lobbying and the like. Some far-left/far-right groups can even participate in protests and such. I expect a mixture between the standard Rep/Dem parties alongside a few out-there fringe parties. I think policy changes can include: Firearms Licensing Requirements Guard Card Licensing Requirements Limits/expansion on the rights of private security companies. Introduction of Hunting Licences Potentially variable tax rates on insurance/property tax (if that becomes a thing) especially for businesses. Introduction of business vehicles as a classification. Allow vehicles to be tied to a company directly instead of to an individual who happens to work for a company. Can't count how many tickets I've given the poor Busch bosses over the weeks b/c of a couple of bad drivers. Legalization/restriction on Unionization rights and what's considered legal forms of Collective Bargaining. Pressure on PD/SD to reduce crime in certain areas or, in contrast, to lessen their focus on others to avoid upsetting the population. Harsher/more lenient punishment for certain misdemeanours and traffic infractions. Minimum/Maximum wage implementations. Legalization of certain drugs. Legalization and regulation of prostitution. Public Works projects, temporary jobs that pay out to help improve infrastructure and such. My character is currently aligned with the Republican Party, but that's more out of her own selfish itnerests than any real ideological alignment.

  17. Couldn't agree more to this. It's not overpowered by any means man. That's what realism is. The bureau does their job and racks the charges up, while criminals try and fight them out trying to outsmart the other side. If they can't and the cards fall from their place, it's over. You had to be careful, end of story. The more PD will put effort into this, the more careful criminals will be. That's simply how it's meant to be. We want to see RICO come into play, life sentences, we want to see people flip like they do modern day, we want to see the bureau pressuring them into cutting deals. Perhaps trim their sentence down and let them have a namechange if someone flips as a form of witness protection, while the ones who don't and want to suck up their sentence get CK'd for life without parole. The simple truth is that the playing field is NOT even. It hasn't been through several decades. The bureau has far too many tools and resources set all over the place to bring down whatever they want. And don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean crime is dead. Its only evolved in newer and more creative ways than before, but the current state of the server is nothing less than 1970s New York the way you put it yourself. So enough time and effort should be put accordingly into the factions that are going about and causing the mayhem like we're in a different century. In the modern day, extortion of businesses is more or less dead and very situational, so is LCN presence in the west coast far as that's concerned. These updates aside, there didn't really seem to be any major investigations going on into anything. If they were and I'm wrong, it's a good thing. The arrests haven't been seen at all though.

  18. Don't you think that maybe if you got an easy win is because you did a good job, and it's not your job to be lenient? I think organized crime groups should understand that they should up their game a little. And I also think that you(as PD) should do your job regardless of how "easy win" it may look. I think that it will be healthy for the illegal factions if you guys used all the tools given to you. They have to fear law. Everyone has to fear law.

  19. It's not so much that I don't want to see factions shut down period, but I want us to have to work for it and not have the other party feel like we got an ''easy'' win. This is why I previously refrained from allowing undercover officers to insert themselves into factions, because the tool is simply too strong. I would only ever authorize that if things go too far (i.e. faction starts to commit mass murders and they NEED to be taken down. That hasn't happened here yet, though) Wires, moles and trackers however level the playing field. It's not necessarily easy for the police department to obtain, because it requires us (any law enforcement factions with investigators) to obtain serious information about person x, property x, you name it, before an electronic surveillance warrant will be granted. I know we previously spoke about arrest / search warrants in topics other then this one, and the same (if not more stringent) requirements will be tied to obtaining these warrants. Surveillance is the name of the game, and it's already given the police department (through a considerably high amount of work) the opportunity to gain a lot of information, but it's always shy of giving us that hammer we need to hit the proverbial nail in the head. I have a history of being a vice / organised crime investigator personally, as that's what I previously did on the community I played before I joined GTAW and it will always have a special place for me. I was personally a big part of spearheading the movement to get this added to the server. What everyone, my detectives included, has to understand about wires is this: They are no joke. Wires are a seriously powerful tool (which is why for example the FBI took them very seriously in the 70's/80's and used them to seriously hurt LCN in New York) and that is the way we are going to approach it too. I know that a lot of you in the community have complained in the past about the LSPD's DB incapability to do a lot of damage specifically to non-open criminal factions (so discount gangs and motorcycle clubs for a moment) because it is extremely difficult to effectively identify a faction's chain of command through surveillance unless they openly advertise it. That being said, this is the tool that levels the playing field. This is not going to make the police department (or any other investigate entity) overpowered. If anything, this merely levels the playing field. All those conversations you're purposely having inside buildings now because you know there's nothing the LSPD/LSSD/SABI can do about it? That time is over. This forces you, the criminal roleplayer, to always be on your toes. This forces you to think twice about what is safe and what isn't. To give you an example of what wires are useful for, I'll bring up the most basic thing. Buy busts. You've heard about them, right? For those of you who don't know, a buy bust is when an officer in plain clothes approaches you, the criminal, to buy contraband from you. Previously we were very apprehensive about doing these types of operations, because officer safety (as it should be) is one of our number one priorities. Wires however give us the ability to, in real time, listen in to what the officer is doing instead of relying on texts or calls to know how they're doing. This tool has been widely available to police departments in the US (and probably across the globe as well) and it will simply function as something that will level the playing field. What is the point to playing a high level LCN character when you know that the LSPD can't physically ever do anything against you not because of incompetence, but because the script simply doesn't support it? There is only so much cosmetic fear you can roleplay without it getting dull and not feeling like you genuinely might be at risk. TL:DR - To some of you this tool might seem very minute and to others it might look overpowered. Both sides I get. If you're an associate then you probably won't care about this addition - and rightfully so, because it's not really meant to have an effect on you. This tool is there for police detectives to have the ability to bring the hurt to faction middle management and leaders - which is something I believe both sides have been waiting for for a long time. IF you can't tell, I'm personally very excited about this addition because I know that it will finally give the police department the IC ability to start genuinely ramping up investigations. In turn, I know this will bring many more people to the detective career path and will hopefully result in a more active police department detective bureau - something that the entire server will benefit from. If you are worried about usage of wires, you can find reassurance in this: In the Los Santos Police Department, using a wire illegally will simply not be allowed, period. I will put an OOC restriction on it because the tool is too powerful to be abused. The only times that people will be using wires will be to either wire up a police officer during a buy bust, to wire up a confidential informant (which we always OOCly vet with LFM/IFM to ensure they have IC reasons to rat instead of just OOC) or to wire up a business for which a warrant has obtained. If there are any further questions, please let me know. I do not want any of you to be confused/concerned about our wire usage. I am personally very invested in it (because I roleplay a detective as well) and will not accept any abuse of the tool.

  28. Extortion is a weird issue on rp servers because it seems a lot of illegal factions are stuck in the 90s. Either gangs color coat for some weird reason or the mafia walks into your business like it's 1995 and demands money. There's also extortion that makes no sense, like extorting a 24/7, which is like a mafia walking into a 7/11 and demanding the random clerk who's getting paid 8 dollars an hour to tell them who the owner is, again a 7/11, it makes zero sense.

Anyhow I'd just stick with the Character Stories (https://forum.gta.world/en/index.php?/forum/99-character-stories/) section if you don't get many takers. The other day I found this one which I found particularly good, especially the most recent posts: https://forum.gta.world/en/index.php?/topic/22694-the-life-and-times-of-an-ex-stripper/&page=5

  30. It's not even worth trying to extort anyone these days they'll just grab their AK and shoot you and your faction even if they're RPing a 18 y old female.

  31. Keep the crosshair. First person shooting is buggy because first person MOVEMENT is buggy and you do those weird desync stances. You are always living in first person IRL, but you don't play as such, because your field-of view in game is the same as if you lost one eyeball. So, you get all geared up for a shootout in first person, and then the people you're shooting at have to panic-type in commands to equip anything in their inv, then go in first person, then deal with buggy movement themselves and on you, with a significantly smaller field of view than real life. lol

  32. What I mean is there are a lot of sitting animations that don't move your character backwards. Most of the sitchair animations do but lots of sit animations don't, meaning you just float in front of a chair. If you could phase through the chair then all these animations can now get used.

  35. Username: VH Comment: Our city lacks so many important services, it is unbelievable. One of the most important issues we face is the lack of representation and transparency. How do we know what’s going on behind the scenes? Where is the budget for all this new infrastructure coming from? Where, how and why is our tax dollars being spent? Why is there no financial records being published? The only few snippets of info we get is from e-procurement and occasional executive directives published. There is no council representation at the moment, and there hasn’t been for the longest while. How do we know all actions taken by current administration is in good faith when there is no discourse or opposition within the government? Start pressing for answers. We should be demanding change for the plethora of issues that plague our city.

  36. This is trying to address the drought issue that is happening right now when all/most businesses are closed. And then suddenly when one pops up, all truckers on the server go there at the same point and it creates an extremely shitty and annoying situation for civilians, cops and the truckers themselves. +1 to the suggestion
