  1. GTA has a 'stealth mode' thing that's mostly used in the singleplayer campaign here and there, which I believe is activated by pressing CTRL by default. You've probably accidentally done it before even if you aren't familiar; it's when your character sort of leans over and starts to walk slower. This has the effect of making your footsteps slightly quieter. I think it would be really neat if it also hid your nameplate in GTAW, or at least made the detection range of your nameplate a lot smaller. As unfortunate as it is, it's pretty much impossible not to at least make a subconscious note of a nameplate when you see it through a wall, or in another situation where you wouldn't be able to realistically see the person. This usually doesn't matter, but can be extremely detrimental to a realistic firefight, footchase, or etc, especially considering it's harder to stop yourself from impulsively acting on the nameplate during these high pressure situations. If stealth mode hid your nameplate, I think this would be a decent workaround to the problem. If a player wanted to, they could activate it when they're hiding in order to make it OOCly harder to locate them. I'm not actually 100% sure if this is doable, code wise, unfortunately. I thought I'd put the suggestion in regardless, though, so coders can take a look at it and determine whether or not it's viable to implement if they do want it as a feature. Thanks!

  3. LSPD & LSFD AMBUSHED in Chamberlain Hills Published: 30th of January, 2019. The night of the 28th of January proved to be a calamitous time for emergency responders of the LSPD & LSFD. What begun as a standard vehicle pursuit ended in a mass shooting that tested both department's abilities. The pursuit led LSPD officers to the Crystal Heights complex on Forum Drive in Chamberlain Hills. The resulting arrest was interrupted by an unknown attacker who set a responding cruiser alight. Once the area was deemed secure the Fire Marshall's Office (FMO) was dispatched, with Fire Captain Jack Wolfsbane representing. Tactical and K-9 officers scour the Southern perimeter of the scene of the 28th on Forum Drive. According to police accounts the arson investigation was underway at 23:14 when bullets hailed down from the roofs above, Wolfsbane sustained fatal injuries while an accompanying LSPD Sergeant was struck in the arm. What followed was an unprecedented escalation to a "CODE 0" response. A CODE 0 requires all active officers to respond to the scene immediately regardless of their current status. Three shooters were contained in the Southern Chamberlain Hills area before the LSPD took them down. According to a later LSFD press release there were 6 victims afflicted with gunshot wounds and 2 victims. LSPD Officers sweeping the rooftops for shooters. With the area now on lock down and the LSPD on high alert; Any civilians within the cordon were either escorted out or questioned. A plain clothes officer was mistaken for a suspect and fired upon by a uniformed officer. At the time the officer was sequestered by an IA representative. Unfortunately the LSPD Detective died in the line of duty in what may be called a "blue on blue" shooting. An internal investigation headed by LSPD Internal Affairs will be determining the culpability of the uniformed officer. The LSPD have requested the detective's name to be withheld until their internal investigation has concluded. Captain Wolfsbane was later confirmed to have also died in the line of duty. A black SUV confronted by a LSPD tactical element for circling the area. The LSPD continue to extensively investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, with our police source stating "we are determining suspects and the reason behind the attack". Tactical SWAT Insurgent moves down to the downsized Northern perimeter shortly before disbanding. Following this the basic units were dispersed past midnight and the cordon downsized. The tactical units were the very last to leave the scene minutes later. Tactical teams later cast a net over the area until approximately 6AM on the 29th. LSPD tactical officers confront another suspect in the early minutes of the scene. Police presence in the Chamberlain Hills and Davis areas have since stepped up. R&R spoke to a local resident with a deep-set Mexican accent who claimed he was harassed and had racial slurs thrown at him when detained. These claims were swiftly denied. Questions arise over potential gang activity in the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, but are yet unfounded. LSFD Captain Jack Wolfsbane in ceremonial dress. Condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Captain Jack Wolfsbane and the LSPD Detective who both died in the line of duty. Source View the full album of the night here. 4. Little Seoul, Los Santos Little Seoul is a Korean-influenced neighborhood within the city of Los Santos. It is a highly diverse, dense and working-class enclave with a sizable Korean minority and has a far higher proportion of foreign-born residents than the average Los Santos County district. The neighborhood is characterized by small, local businesses which commonly have English and Hangeul names, as well as the dense apartment blocks that the majority of residents reside in, the largest of which is the thirteen-story tall Dream Tower. The district is distinct from many American Koreatowns due to the coexistence of commercial and residential life and demographic change in recent decades. Although the name suggests Little Seoul is a traditional ethnic enclave, there are a variety of ethnic and cultural minorities in the neighborhood with the Hispanic population now being a larger minority group than the Koreans themselves. In spite of this, the area remains culturally Korean with Korean businesses and traditions, such as food, remaining predominant. Korean culture within Little Seoul has began to draw from and blend with other cultures and groups, most notably Hispanic culture, with cuisine such as ‘Korean-Mexican fusion’ and lowrider culture becoming increasingly adopted within modern day Korean-American society. History Korea’s self-imposed isolation was brought to an end by the United States-Korea Treaty of 1882. The resulting diplomatic relations between both the United States and Korea enabled the start of Korean migration to the United States. Koreans travelled to the US in several major stages, the earliest of these was between 1903 and 1905 to newly annexed islands of Hawaii to replace striking Japanese labourers. Of the 7,226 Koreans who were drafted into labouring roles in Hawaii, approximately 2,000 later migrated to the West Coast. This wave ended in 1905 as a result of the Japanese occupation of Korea. Migration largely ceased until the second wave brought about by the Korean War which resulted in approximately 14,000 Koreans, many of whom were war orphans, wives, or relatives of American servicemen migrating to the United States. The third wave of Korean migration to the United States occurred as a result of the 1965 Immigration Act which ended the national quota system, which previously disincentivised Korean migration. The impact of the third wave of migrants was far more profound than previous waves in terms of background and numbers of migrants. The third wave of migrants were much more middle-class than previous migrants, consisting of mostly college educated Koreans hoping to make a lateral transition into American society. Upon arriving in the US, Koreans without medical or engineering degrees found such a transition difficult, resulting in many to become store owners and merchants. As a consequence, Little Seoul business owners were predominantly Koreans who either migrated or descended from Korean migrants, a predominance which remains to this day. It was during this time in the 1970s that Little Seoul became a distinct urban district as the third wave of Korean immigrants built upon a small Korean enclave within an underserved area produced by racial and economic segregation earlier in the twentieth century. Los Santos Civil Unrest In 1992, four police officers were acquitted for their use of excessive force and violent beating of an African American taxi driver during his arrest for speeding. Footage of the beating was taken from a resident’s nearby balcony and sent to a local news station, which fast became a worldwide topic covered by news outlets all over the globe. In the footage, officers could be seen participating in a prolonged beating of the suspect as he lay down on the floor beside his vehicle. In the resulting trial, the jury acquitted all four officers of assault, much to the astonishment and outrage of the local population. Soon afterwards, crowds began to fill the streets in protest of the result of the trial, which were met by an outnumbered and unprepared police force. A series of incidents between protesters and police resulted in violence breaking out, and by the end of the 29th of April, a riot had begun. Hide contents The riots continued for six days until order was restored, by which time, much of the surrounding area had been looted, vandalised and destroyed causing several hundred million dollars worth of damage. Many Korean Americans refer to the events as ‘Sa-l-Gu’, which means “four-two-nine”, referring to the date the riots in the area started. The Korean community were significantly impacted by the riots as law enforcement opted to defend more affluent areas and abandoned many other businesses to the looters. Koreans sought to defend their businesses, communities and livelihoods resulting in numerous dramatic scenes of armed Koreans patrolling on the ground and rooftops. In spite of these efforts, just under half of the businesses destroyed during the riots were Korean-owned and only a quarter of Korean businesses survived the riots and the immediate aftermath. Hide contents The impact of the riots were profound on the community, changing how Koreans saw their relationship with America, their community and each other. Korean solidarity was increased while attempt to bridge the divide with other communities were undertaken and over time a deep connection between Koreans-Americans and Hispanic Americans was built up. The area was redeveloped, rebuilt and is stronger than ever. The area was redeveloped, rebuilt and is stronger than ever, and although it still suffers from socio-economic problems, it is a vibrant and multicultural centre for Koreans and other minorities alike. OOC This community attempts to emulate Los Angeles’ Koreatown and will largely feature community-based roleplay, centred around many locations and Korean-owned businesses in the Little Seoul area. There are no race/nationality restrictions in place, as the real life equivalent of Little Seoul is a melting pot of many different races and cultures. However, we encourage you to research the groups of people that predominantly exist in the Koreatown LA to ensure you have an accurate understanding of the lifestyles and culture Little Seoul may have. Characters of all ages are welcome. We advise you to PM one of the leaders (@Atiku, @Morning, and @Pascal) before joining this community. Whilst we cannot control who roleplays in the Little Seoul area, if you wish to RP with the community and be affiliated with us as a group you will need to to speak to us to both ensure you can provide a fitting character/roleplay for the area or to provide advice if you need it. We encourage all those who join to send us their character concept so we can provide feedback and ensure it has a reasonable amount of depth to it. With that in mind, we are willing to accept players who may be inexperienced with this type of roleplay, so long as you can provide a good attitude and willingness to learn. Unless you have been approved by one of the three leaders, you must request permission to post screenshots on this thread. Whilst highly unlikely due to the civilian nature of this community, we reserve the right to CK you in the extreme circumstance it may come down to that. CKs will (hopefully) be very rare and will mainly be applied against carelessly designed characters who are poorly/recklessly portrayed, i.e. a generic badass character who terrorises the community in a poorly roleplayed way continuously. We may also choose to apply a CK if your character gets jailed for a considerable (i.e. felony) offence. 5. Just wait until you're an adult that gets confronted with bills left and right, or actually get out of the house and actually live the normal life you want to RP. Jokes. On a serious note though, I do understand what you're saying but with the addition of RP jobs and the already existent (road-)tax system it feels like plenty of "real" stuff has been added already. It's kind of overkill to just keep adding these kind of things while there's so many other things that could be fixed and/or added at this point in time. The goal is for everyone to RP a realistic character, and if you want to RP paying your bills every month because that's your thing, then why should a non-existent script feature prevent you from doing that? It's been fine so far. I've been RP'ing on several sticks-and-stones text-based platforms, including SA:MP in its early stages, and although I've come to appreciate all these fancy features, it really isn't necessary at all to add script-based stuff. Focus on the RP instead of wanting to have all kinds of script-wise stuff added in the hopes it'll make your roleplaying here better.

  6. So far as I'm aware, stealth mode has been removed from GTAW - you can zoom in slightly and get quieter footsteps by pressing the CTRL key, but these are all client side and don't actually impact the volume of your footsteps to other people. I believe the feature was removed due to how easy it was to achieve stealth kills - a decision I don't personally understand, but whatever. If we can't bring back stealth mode, perhaps an update to the nametag system itself is in order. I know for a fact it's possible to script in such a way that the name is only visible if you have line of sight to a person, so perhaps that would be a useful avenue to prevent metagaming a tag behind a wall.

  8. Journal Entry - 1 - 28th of January, 2019 I've been in Los Santos for about four days, I'm used to the big city life clearly but I wasn't prepared for this place even with that being said. First person I meet off the bus? Kaori... Five minutes in I'm learning about all of the inner-workings to becoming a camgirl and I did not wake up whatsoever prepared for such a situation. Haha... Fast forward to the evening and I'm just lucky enough to meet Luke one of the managers of Exotic Auto! I must've impressed him with my bubbly personality or something cause I got a job as a Mechanic and I'm making REAL money for once! He even said I was making the business some serious money with all of the paint jobs I've done since I started too! It has been a good experience thus far but I'm not sure if I could ever focus on cars they just don't get my love like the bikes do! Anyways.. Next day comes around and I meet Ron, he's a cop and happens to be my new landlord! Serious flirt, pretty sure he wants to take me for a ride and not the kind I'm generally down for! But I'd rather he like me and wanna' see me safe rather then anything else. From there.. Lets see, went to a party at the 'Dungeon Crawler' and I went a little wild. But I got Caleb's attention it would seem, and he's been awesome so far. So we'll see if it was worth it to get out of my shell a bit. That's all for now, maybe someday I'll reread this and laugh but probably not ?

  9. I'm with you on this one. I get the whole point of wanting realism, but at some point we just need to take a step back and realize that some of the things suggested simply adds realism for the sake of realism, without actually providing much interesting roleplay out of it. Sure, it would give the mechanics more to do. But for the normal player, this would just mean even more of a headache, getting in the way of actually being able to tell interesting stories with our characters.

  10. House Baelish, the most interesting and deserving character to gain the throne in my opinion.

  11. One of my friends have been nagging me to give the game a chance, though in my opinion Ring of Elysium looks and feels like a straight up cheap copy of PUBG. Being the conservatist that I am, I'ma stick with PUBG unless Ring of Elysium becomes the next big thing in Battle Royale.

  12. I think of GTAW as a fictional story (tv/movie/novel). It's all about struggle/conflict/challenge. When a character gets to the top, either the story ends or they suffer a fall from grace. (It doesn't have to be a loss of wealth, it could be a divorce, a scandal, whatever.) When an empire gets too big it falls apart, suffers corruption and unrest. When Henry VIII gets the throne he starts killing all his wives because he's obsessed with having a male heir. For your own enjoyment you might consider ways to "fuck up", maybe because of greed, pride, lust, envy (pick a sin). If high-level business is frustrating/restricting maybe this is a good opportunity for something dramatic. I feel like you are focusing on money as a computer game mechanic (as if this were a strategic/economic game), instead of focusing on the character/narrative. Business meetings aren't about money, fights aren't about violence, sex isn't about arousal. (This is the mentality I use to try to make my rp enjoyable.) Consider one of your earlier quotes: The characters might want upward mobility, but the players shouldn't want that unless it fits the character's story. My current character wants to get an education and move out of Rancho. She will surely fail completely because of her strengths/weaknesses/personality/circumstances. Each time she does a job, it's not about money. And if I was playing a business person, the effort to make money would really be about their character flaws and stuff like that.

  14. Last night, I was at the Vanilla Unicorn, where two people had an altercation. One provoked the other, while the other party remained purely defensive. As soon as they got outside, the aggressive party made a simple /me "rushes Aiden", and then began to left click relentlessly. Had my character not intervened, the defensive party, Aiden, would have been punchwhored to death, leaving him in a wounded state. There is no way to defend against such an attack besides to left click in return and hope that their health bare depletes before yours. I believe this is against the main focus of heavy roleplay. As if someone attacks you physically there is a chance to defend yourself. You can block punches, deflect them, counter attack, tackle and turn it into a wrestling match, inumerable things could happen. I don't think a simple /me should entitle you to start left clicking the hell out of someone and putting them in a wounded state without the use a weapon. Even if punchwhoring is okay, getting knocked out doesn't mean you'll lay there until you die. You'll eventually wake up. What I propose is making punchwhoring against the rules, and possibly script implementations to discourage or disable it. Maybe if you're put into a wounded state via punching, you get up after 2 minutes, as opposed to being offered /acceptdeath, or make punchwhoring unable to render a player below a certain amount of health.
