Campobasso, Italy c. 1947

Little Beginnings

1940s Campobasso, Italy. This particular scene that had been kept in the far back of the history shelves had a meaning to a certain group within this part of Italy at the time. A sprouting criminal organization, an organization of which would carry on the DiLeo family name. Street gambling had been the first and the most early of rackets they operated in their local neighborhoods. Before long, the games had reached all the way to Salerno and to Acri, there were going to be problems to deal with. The violence and rage which carried on from all the way back to the days of Mussolini and the war's aftermath, people were still very much disturbed and willing to turn to other groups such as these for protection or to have someone 'taken care of'. Much of this violence however, misguided, was generated from such gambling among the streets of Italy's cities and towns. Eventually, this form of gambling and all of the organization's other sources of income and asserting power would come to the shores of America.

Road to America

The DiLeo Crime Family was not akin to the longtime established 'Five Families' of New York, although business associations among its membes was encouraged within the family. Of course, this reputation with them was to be earned, this was expected of them by the other dominant families in the entire state. As a new demographic to the Cosa Nostra scene in America, the DiLeo Crime Family would eventually see more growth than ever with their street gambling racket and extortion rackets, even though this form of gambling died down in 1971 in which the family turned to sports betting. 'Jackie' DiLeo, the alleged boss of the DiLeo Crime Family, ended up on good terms with two of the New York families. By 1977, the commission had finally found the right suitor to a new group of business partners.

Present Day

In the late 1990s, the DiLeo Crime Family had become decimated on the eastern seaboard of the United States. Only few remained, those who decided to continue this thing spread out entirely. They cut off loose ends and looked to keep things quiet for the time being. However, later on there was somewhat of a turnaround with the boss not in any kind of incarceration. The west coast faction made up of DiLeo remnants would soon come to be, but it would all have to start from square one.
