Brewing Moonshine

Recommended Posts

What you would need;

1- 6Gallon mixing bucket

1- 6Gallon boiling pot (oven compatable is ideal)

5 Gallons of water

Broken grain, large bag

1kg of sugar

Yeast (2 packets per 5gal)

A large mixing spoon

Strainer

1 Fermentation vessel (With a temperature strip is ideal)

1 Airlock cap

Part 1, making the mash.

First measure out roughly 5 inches worth of grain inside the mixing bucket, then transfer to the boiling pot and stir around. You will need to add 4 out of the five gallons. This is to create the ‘mash’. You need to mix the grain around in the water, then heat to 150 degrees. Keep periodically checking it, stirring it with a large spoon making sure to nudge the grain at the bottom. As time goes on and the temperature keeps rising more and more grain will sink to the bottom.

Once the Mash has reached its 150 mark you will need to turn down the head and set the timer for an hour and begin to stir every 15 minutes. You will need to make sure that the corn is never left to sit on the bottom of the pot for too long. Once you’ve reached the end of this, you’ll be left with a dark grain and water mix. You will need to strain the grain into the mixing bucket. The strainer will act to split the grain and the water.

Part 2; sorting out the grain.

With the grain on the strainer, you will need to use the last gallon of water to rinse it over the grain on the strainer. Only use bits of water at a time, then push down on the grain with a spatula to push out the water and sugars that the grain is holding. Dump the first lot of grain and keep adding a fresh layer on top of the strainer. You need to repeat this until you are left with no grain in the boiling pot. What is left should be a mixing container completely free of any grain but all the dark brown water filled with the sugars and flavour. This will be referred to as the ‘Wash’. You will need to let the wash cool down, but you also need to keep stirring it. Whilst its cooling down this is the right time to add the sugar and mix it into the Wash. For the best results get the water spinning and add half the bag into the spinning water at a moderate pace. Once at half a bag stop pouring and make sure the sugar is dissolved. Repeat this once more.

Part 3; making the ‘Shine’.

Once the wash has cooled down, stir very lightly and add the yeast. Once the yeast has dissolved into the mix, you need to keep stirring it to oxygenate the wash. You will need to then funnel the yeast into a fermentation vessel being careful not to waste any as that can lead to a lesser quality product overall. You will need an airlock valve, you need to cap the jug with the airlock to allow CO2 to filter out. You need to keep your wash at room temperature  and once the airlock has stopped bubbling, you know it's ready for distillation. It takes roughly a weak.

Part 4; distillation.

You will need to set up a still, you need to have a pot with roofing to prevent most of the air from escaping. Copper pipes will need to go from the top of the pot containing the wash. This pipe should lead to a bucket containing ice water. The pipes should be submerged and once its looped around the ice water several times the pipe should exit (spout) at the base of the bucket and into collection jars. Sometimes a screen is recommended to keep any particles from entering the distilling pot. This will stop it burning and leave you with a good product. The first 50ml to come out of your product is toxic waste, methanol and acetone usually. You can choose to add a tiny amount to make bitter product, but it's usually recommended to remove and use for cleaning product. Once the first 50 ml’s have been boiled off you will be left with the ‘body’. This is the good product. You need to jar this. At the bottom and what’ll be left is the tails. You can add this to the next batch to add more potency. Maintain your still anywhere between 174 degrees and 200. Anything lower than 174 is the heads, let that evaporate off and dispose or collect for other uses. Once the temperature hits 174 or above you can start collecting the actual shine. At the end you’ll be left with the tails as that doesn’t evaporate unless you’re past 201 degrees.

Once this is done, you have moonshine. Ready to drink. Nothing more is needed past this.

All above would be how to role-play creating moonshine. Below are the commands and ratio's.

I understand this guide is complicated, but what I think you’d need to be scripted on the server and what you’d need to have.

A way to interact with each step. I.e gathering some water, sugar and grain. You’d then RP adding it to a bucket, type a command like /mixmash and that’d give you 1 unit of mash per every 4 units of water, 1 unit of sugar and 2 units of grain.

You’d then do /filtermash after RPing around said mash, and this would give you a ratio of every 2 units of mash would produce one unit of wash.

The next step would be getting the wash fermented, this you would need to acquire an airlock. The airlock would used up whilst a mash is fermenting and it’d give it back to you when it's done. You would also need to have two items of yeast on you. So all together to active this step you’d require 1 Airlock, 1 Fermenting jug, 2 yeast.  You’d then need to do let's say /fermentwash and after a certain amount of time, maybe lets say 30 minutes you’d be given a new item; fermented wash.

After you’ve gotten the fermented wash you would need to distill it. To activate this step you need to go to (I would like some kind of distillery object added so you can map it to any house or ideally in spots in the woods.) a distillery and type /distillwash. This would give you moonshine. How that’s used on the server is up for question but it’d be nice to sell it to people to drink or to sell to nightclub owners from the trunk of your car. And any stored Moonshine or any other alcohol can be stolen by players if left in houses or car trunks.

Hoping to bring this bad boy back now Alcohol is on the server.

Yes please. Didn't know something like that already existed. Was about to suggest  it.

And maybe add some scriptly distribution plan to it too, other then selling it to other people and clubs. So it can be kind of a real country RP job. When there is not many people in the server it would be perfect to distribute the moonshine scriptly. Just like the miner job etc but with bit more complexity.
