Joseph Carbone was born in 1987 in Algonquin, Liberty City. His father was a carpenter, his mother a homemaker. In Joey's neighborhood, the Messina Crime Family was one of the five families of Liberty City. He grew up around a lot of the actions of his friends and their fathers, pushing him to become a small-time hood. By the age of 20, Joey was making money hand over fist. This didn't come without his father finding out due to his share of trouble from the police. Around this time Joseph was an associate of the family, Joey was involved in many schemes with his friends. They ran card games, a car theft ring, a loan sharking business & had their hands in many legitimate storefronts. Fast forward a few years and Carbone was leading a small crew. He knew his time was coming, and the bosses loved all the cash he brought in. He was made in 2014, taking his oath in the back of a cafe storeroom. Things were only good for so long before the police started cracking down hard on small-time organized crime members, thinking they could get to the bigger fish this way. Joey's friends one by one started getting pulled in for questioning or going to prison for their involvement in the rackets. Not feeling safe anymore and due to the rest of the family staying off the radar, Joey tossed a small bag of clothes and a big bag of money into his car and got out of the city. He needed to regroup and get away from the crackdown. He went as far west as he could and ended up in Los Santos.

Knowing he would be in these new surroundings for the foreseeable future, he started to invest his money into different businesses and start to make connections across the city. Not long after the money started flowing, Joseph met Michael Napoli. Napoli was an ex-member of the Devil's Orphans Motorcycle Club. Things went south for the MC before Joseph's arrival and Michael had been the last member left standing. He had ideas that aligned with Joseph's as he was also building businesses up and investing all over the city, trying to survive on his own. Napoli had long-standing ties to the community and this appealed to Joseph. The two went into business together and became fast friends. Learning each others history, they decided to form a crew of their own and utilize their leadership qualities. Michael's cousin Santino had ties to the Merlino-era Philadelphia mob. He and a bunch of old friends from his community had fallen on hard times and were looking for a fresh start. Santino gathered a small group of guys and reunited with Michael. The moment they stepped off the plane is the moment business began. The group started using their talents to make their mark around the city. Shaking down businesses, making backroom deals, pushing construction bids to go their way, you name it and they did it.

Joseph's bosses got wind of his success through many sources and decided to come see his success and get a piece, naturally. Joey had no intentions of staying in Los Santos forever, but after the Messina Family saw the opportunities that were being grasped by Joey they were impressed. He was running his crew alongside Michael and Santino with great success. The next few years just blew by, with Michael and Santino often driving cross country to Liberty City to make drops to the Messina's for Joey. The duo was well liked and became friends with many people within the family. Joseph was called back to Liberty City to speak with the family. They discussed him starting his own operation out of Los Santos and becoming a satellite to their family. The news came as a surprise to Carbone, but he graciously accepted the offer. The head of the family, Angelo D'Agostino, requested that Michael and Santino be sent for. The duo quickly got on a plane and landed in Liberty City, meeting with Carbone. They drove to Algonquin, to a car dealership. Michael and Santino were led in one at a time for a few minutes. In the back filing room, there were many faces that they recognized, friends they had been dealing with over the last few years, all surrounding a table.  They were now made men.

They returned to Los Santos, their new permanent home with the world at their fingertips. They were granted access to start their own family, and they took full advantage of that, with the backing of one of the major Liberty City families.  With added responsibilities on them, the trio started doling out businesses for the others to run. After a few weeks of being back, they decided to make a promising figure, Alfonso "Fat Al" Persichetti. This was all they needed to get started, they slowly began building from the ground up.
