VelveteenRobot
I’m fairly new to rp in a texted based format,(I’ve played DND for a few years so most of my roleplaying is in person). I was just curious on what I can do to make my new job as a beginner stripper feel more authentic. Also if this isn’t an appropriate question for this specific section of the forum, please let me know. Thanks. Link to comment
KussArsch
I would say not to rp all your wealth. A lot of strippers make really good money especially if you grind like shifts and it’s extremely unrealistic in my opinion to rp all the money you get. I would say to take it slow and rp your wealth up but it depends on your backstory tbh. Also another thing I find unrealistic with some people is they just automatically turn to escorting or getting paid for sexual favors. A lot of strippers/strip clubs irl would never allow that. VelveteenRobot
I agree with you. I’m going to let it unfold naturally. I want to just have her moonlight as a stripper for now as a means to get by but once I’m more comfortable in my rp, I’ll move on to something else. Link to comment
Codac
Don't do it for the erp opportunities and you're basically in the green. 1 Link to comment
Taina
It helps to do a little bit of research when RP'ing a new role. Try watching a couple of stripper vlogs on youtube or just reading through some stripper blogs. It'll get you thinking about things you likely otherwise wouldn't have considered, like all the little details about what kind of items strippers have to take to work in their 'stripper bag' and the things they typically find uncomfortable and hard to deal with. edited for clarity Edited June 25, 2020 by Taina 1 Link to comment

I did this a ton when I rped my first stripper. Plus the vlogs are so interesting. Link to comment
Bloodseeker
i know it's not what you seek in this thread but i would like to give you some out of character advice. others can read at their own risk: Spoiler the playerbase, on a large scale, isn't mature enough to understand the difference between the player and the character, nor mature enough/comfortable with their own sexuality to confront people who delve in "erp". more often than not, you're going to get the odd guy calling you all sorts of nasty names and judging you from the get-go just because your character is a stripper, and you need to prepare yourself for this. i have done it before, can't say it was a blast, it wasn't terrible either. give it a shot and see if it works for you! 2 Link to comment

I understand that and don’t expect high levels of maturity. My character isn’t exactly looking to get famous from stripping, so she uses a fake name and works as far away from where she normally hangs out just in case. Link to comment
jcat
I would say go to the other strip clubs and watch other strippers. See how they use /me statements to describe what their characters are doing and how that enhances their dance anims. Find a private place like your character's apartment if she has one, and test all the anims to see what they look like. Then make a list of them and keep the list by your keyboard until you memorize the ones you like. Vary your anims a few times per song. I've seen a couple of stripper characters talk to people in their audience, but that isn't normal. Most customers don't like it, and they're looking for descriptive /me statements. See if you can search online for 'best description of stripper dance' or something to get ideas for how to describe the moves. Here's something I found with a quick search on duckduckgo search engine: https://thoughtcatalog.com/holly-riordan/2016/08/24-lap-dance-techniques-thatll-make-you-look-sexier-than-a-stripper/ There are two kinds of problem customers: 1. The Heckler. 2. The Perv. The Heckler is just a troll. That's all he is. He gets his OOC kicks by bothering people while they're trying to rp and saying inappropriate things. Just ignore him. He'll get more and more extreme, but he just talks and he eventually makes a fool of himself, gets bored, and leaves. Responding to him only distracts you from the /anim statements you're using for your dance moves and your /me descriptions. If it's realistic, have your character call the club bouncer over and have him get rid of the guy. The Perv is a perverted troll. He has the same motivation, to get his kicks by bothering people while they're trying to rp, but he uses more /me statements to bother the dancers. For example, the dancer will be dancing for him, and he'll /me something inappropriate, like he pinches her breast or something. Again, his intent is to provoke a reaction along with the small thrill of doing something inappropriate. Respond with the absolute minimum of a reaction, like 'she brushes his hand away', and then have your character dance for other customers and refuse to interact with him. He'll get bored and leave, but if not, have your character alert club security and get rid of him. Link to comment

Googleing some descriptions would be helpful since I found myself using the same /mes repeatedly. Also how do you line up animations? For example, sitting in a chair. I tend to end up floating in the air facing the seat instead of sitting on it. 1 Link to comment
