"Illegal ads" - i think not.

Why is it OOC'ly illegal  advertising a actual betting company (Registered in GOV website) with /ad's or /cad's just because it does not have a  Gaming License

And at the same time it is legal for those kinds of establishments to do the same exact thing

  • Entertainment establishments that might not have a Liquor Sales License or have been buying illegally made alcohol.
  • Pawnshops that advertise goods that might be stolen.
  • Radio stations without having the Broadcasting License - Not to mention using a /cad (Company Ad) to advertise a radio station that is probably not even registered as a company.

My point here is that , I understand the main point of the rule - it is to cut the unrealistic and very obvious borderline trollish ads about criminal activities, but it should not limit the use of IG ad system for a seemingly legal, registered company, whos actual legality is a matter of an IC storyline and for a city inspector/cops to discover. It is not a matter of any kind of a issue with not be allowed IC'ly to put up such ads either, because the IC format of any given ad is lucid - it can be in any form ; Twitter, street posters, radio/TV commercials and so on .. It is not concreted.

Because if you don't have a gaming license you're openly violating the law by advertising your business?  You're required to have a gaming license.  You don't see establishments that don't have the licenses advertising services openly they are not licensed for.  I would even think a radio station that doesn't have a broadcasting license can fall under the advertisement rule.

I honestly feel as if this is primarily an in-character issue, but gambling is an OOC concern and should be treaded lightly.  There's a lot of negative issues that rise from gambling.  It's a real-life issue for some people have no control.  The last thing you want is a house-party gambling ring where people all meet up from advertisements to gamble off of some advertisement.  It doesn't seem realistic at all.  The last thing you want is these type of circles operating and creating issues or rule violations.

You’re right; it looks like gambling was singled out here. I would take to a suggestion and suggest that they change the language of the Advertisement Rule to make it inclusive so that gambling is not unfairly singled out. Changing it to make it inclusive would also bring clarity to those operating unregistered and / or unlicensed liquor, broadcasting, and entertainment establishments.

I am speaking entirely from an OOC perspective, of course.

Nah, stop enforcing everything and rather deal with it ICly.

What does that mean? How do you know if a pawn shop has stolen goods in it? If I post a ad for my pawn shop, admins would come and ask me if they are stolen? Nah, no thanks, that's not how it shoudl work. Admin enforcement is already way too high.

Of course it's gonna be illegal to advertise a business without proper licensing, same thing goes for any other business that lack the required paperwork to properly operate e.g. a bar without a valid alcohol license or a strip club without a valid adult entertainment license. It's an illegal business - therefore illegal to advertise.

I mean people can say this is an IC issue but as far as I know there either isn’t or it’s very difficult to find the “gaming license”. OP is out here provides a fun, simple service. Sports betting.

does diamond resort and casino have a a gaming license? Does any bar in los santos ACTUALLY have a liquor license? I’d love to see the receipts because I highly doubt anyone has that stuff in order.

Why don’t we focus on the plethora of illegal lottery ads?

Based off of this I'm going to assume that if you have a gaming license, that you're legally allowed to do a lottery. On an IC basis it really is up to the Department of Licensing from the City Government to follow up and make sure people are legally operating. How much staffing that department has for all the businesses though remains to be seen in the grand scheme of things.

Licenses are not hard to get, they were much harder to get a year ago. When I applied for the Diamonds licenses we had them sorted in an hour from application.

When I ran my old bookies and old casino I made damn well sure all my licenses were up to date. IRL gambling is so messy and touchy that you don't wanna ever mess with licenses.

Yes, people do actually get licenses. I remember multiple people getting told off for not having their licenses sorted out and still opening. Probably not as many people are aware of it as expected but it should be heavily enforced. Leased properties come with all licenses already sorted out.
