Deadline Gangster Woods (DGW) are a hybrid street/prison gang active on the west side of Los Santos, centered around the Vespucci Beach and Del Perro areas. DGW is composed primarily of White members, though their historical and cultural links to Sureño varrios on the beachfront has gradually led to the acceptance of Hispanic members, usually of mixed White and Hispanic ethnicity. Deadline Gangster Woods fall under the 'Peckerwood' category of White gangs. Such gangs operate as a loosely organized unit, often in the pursuit of financial gain and influence both on the streets and in prisons. Peckerwood gangs generally operate without the political views associated with Skinhead gangs, which are considered the more radical alternatives for White criminals seeking the benefits provided by an organized gang. Peckerwood gangs usually do not claim territory officially, though their members are often drawn from a specific region. In the case of DGW, their 'area' is generally considered the western areas of metropolitan Los Santos extending to the coast. However, being a gang with a significant presence in the prison system, DGW has been known to recruit members from across the state.

 

DGW was formed in the late 1990s by inmates incarcerated in Solado State Prison - more specifically locals of the beachfront area who sought to become more organized for the purposes of collective profiteering, but who were not able to join the dominant Nazi Lowriders (NLR) gang due to not being 'YA babies' (it was required at the time for all NLR recruits to have been to Youth Authority, which this group had not). SADCR's centralized Special Services Unit (SSU), a department responsible for coordinating the gang units tracking and combating Security Threat Groups in custodial environments, estimates Deadline Gangster Woods may be composed of several dozen members spread across state prisons, county jails and the streets of southern San Andreas. DGW saw its most successful period in the time following the decline of NLR, who were forbidden from recruiting new members. This period saw an explosion in skinhead gang membership, as white inmates who wished to join a gang no longer had NLR as an option, though DGW also picked up an increase in recruits. Most of its current members are middle aged men who joined during this time. SSU theorizes that DGW has been attempting to replace NLR as the leading wood gang, but has thus far struggled to attract the members and networks required for such a move.

 

DGW are among the large collection of White gangs nominally under the authority of the Aryan Brotherhood (AB) prison gang. No DGW members are yet recorded as having ascended to the ranks of the AB, though several members were included among those indicted in a 2016 Aryan Brotherhood federal racketeering case. Three Deadline Gangster Woods were charged with operating as drug runners for a larger AB methamphetamine distribution syndicate.

 

"Deadline" is an old inmate term referring to the deadly force line at some older prison facilities. If an inmate crosses this line, deadly force is authorized by the tower sentries. The phrase "Do not cross the Deadline" is the only known piece of consistent DGW culture, repeated by inmates and found in kites and tattoos. It is thought to be the gang's simplistic mantra, representing their rules and beliefs.

 

Presently, the street arm of DGW is languishing as almost all members are incarcerated. DGW ink, however, can still be spotted on the beach.
