It definitely creates issues when you look at a State system as people are not as familiar as a city system.  What are your thoughts on a County system?  I feel that if it remains a city legislature, then laws and acts that are explored only remain at a city level and not throughout the County/State.

That's not the policy, the policy is to simplify with automatic background checks, no changes to the restrictions as LS is already strict. What'd be the point in a platform if every time you pass a policy, you move the goal posts?

This is an ooc misconception and I think it comes from the writing being vague, but no, the democrats here don't want to give everyone guns.

Completely agree. There should be a standard here created for what each party generally should be following. You’re not going to see Democrat’s wanting loose gun regulations and vice versa for Republicans. Democrat’s favor larger government presence over Republicans who favor less, etc. I shouldn’t see parties that are named one thing and go against everything they stand for in their real life counterparts just to pander to the citizens of Los Santos. That undermines any credibility this budding political RP could provide.

By the way I’m not pointing fingers at any particular person,  I’m speaking in a general sense for the overall health of what could be some pretty interesting political RP. I’m all for it. Good luck to all parties. Please do it right.

I've personally avoided getting involved in this topic as of late due to the period of mud throwing between people and using various parties as scapegoats. I do agree there was a step of haste in the parties' formation to secure certain brands. And whilst on a level I agree with posts being made here, politics should be seen more as fluid than a solid. Whilst at a national level the Democrats represent the left and Republicans the right, that is country view on the situation. Local policies will always be different because they are various parties aiming to secure votes and appealing to demographics. LA/California is one of the most 'liberal' area's in all of the union; its policies will always seem out of wack. Whilst he is not really a career politician, look at Arnie. Ran as a Republican with an agenda more akin to the centrists than a right or left voter and he secured his place.

To hone in the original points, at least from my side I always review the policies we have internally and hold it to votes; a deciding factor. We have a government rep in the organization and Brett also consults us like with the Democrats. I do not hold quarrel with outsiders forming parties due to staunch disagreements with the two main ones; it makes things interesting. But these parties and their reps need to refrain from throwing shade. Remember Politics as it stands is literally about securing votes, half the candidates elected don't keep promises or make very vague ones. And until there is a completed government framework to allow elections, the focus should not be on the parties as they really haven't done anything yet. That's my two cents here as I represent the other major side of the agenda and the main target against certain individuals motivations and comments.

I wanted to go into this some more and address misconceptions I've seen, both on this thread, other recents threads, and general things I've seen said by the community over the past year or so RE: Gov. Largely there's a belief the Government are simply inactive and don't have a desire to do much, but from experience working with @AVRO DANKASTER and the rest of Gov during Head of Property, not only is this not the case, they happen to be fairly busy working on various projects that both take large investment in time, and are organising things that need special knowledge/skills that not everyone has.

If you want a basic idea of their activity, you can check gov.gta.world and gov-forum.gta.world. Without fail, they're pushing things out on a monthly basis - a lot of the things they're pushing out require planning out in advance which take additional time. On top of this, they actively work on future projects or try to find people to fill for future projects. Whilst doing that, they have the responsibility to maintain and keep on top of the Government processes, such as the registration, licensing and grant systems. Besides doing that, they're roleplaying in-game as their characters, and meet daily to organise things ICly - there's someone in Gov who roleplay with our group and they're frequently pulled aside for Gov responsibilities, practically every evening.

People also need to consider the scale of what the Gov work with. There are a lot of large projects they have worked on in the past, many of these require specialist players who offer skills that few have, which are rare to come by, so take time to be able to setup. These do not always see the light of day due to lack of people and lack of interest, which lead the projects to fail.

A few examples include:

Duke Energy

A project to introduce roleplayed energy infrastructure to the server. This was a very exciting project initially, which saw an IRL Linesman assist in defining the energy grid of the state. The person behind it physically went around Los Santos and mapped the entirety of the energy grid, drafted and wrote up a ton of stuff necessary to make this project work. Gov needed to coordinate with Property Management to define special cases for the setup of Duke Energy Headquarters and the Palmer-Taylor Power Plant, which wouldn't fit well within our request/leasing system. Overall this project had quite a lot of overhead for the Gov to setup, and required them to coordinate with the player involved, Property Management and Legal Faction Management simultaneously. This project unfortunatetly fell through as the player responsible for it got somewhat "ambitious" and decided they also wanted to be a whacky crimelord on the side of running an energy company, whilst also running a car racing track as a property lease that they were told they only have access to for an event, but began to roleplay as if they owned the place. It was quickly shut down after this.

You can see the interactive map here.

I am that guy.. And looking back at things, I did become overly ambitious and strayed from the purity of my goals within GTAW. After a few months of little to no interest, I began shopping for ways to shape Duke Energy into a power player within the community. I did this by distancing the company from actual powerline work, and trying to be a "community outreach" group, and lastly, use my resources and influence to fill the shoes of a "WHACKY crimelord"... It was pure boredom due to, as stated, lack of interest or assistance from the community. We we're failing, and making drastic changes to our values to try and stop it.

The fact is, ENGAGEMENT, is the most critical part of any factions success. Ultimately, the lack of engagement from the server as a whole was the killer to my original concept of "building powerlines"... The reason? Lack of interest (sounds repetitive, I know)... While I have a passion for powerlines, and do it for a living, it was obvious it would have been a struggle to get the same shared passion from members of a video game community.

That being said, I feel that politics within GTAW lacks real engagement from a majority of the population... The ones who have that interest are either sit in a government position currently, or they are waiting, building parties in anticipation to "make a difference".... Yet again, their is little to no interest for players to lead that kind of character, and honestly, I think the only motivation for most is to be a "power player", and benefit a small group. If that were to be true, we would wind up with the same kind of Mayors and governments that plagued SAMP.

The issue I believe Nervous and the management see is.. Once these people are given these opportunities to become elected officials.. And the smoke clears.... What are they going to do when they get bored? Positions such as Mayor, or a representative open the door for illegitimate actions that can effect the server tremendously. While this is realistic, can the economy be buffered from the damage of corruption ? As Nervous stated, @AVRO DANKASTER and his associates have proven reliable, and I am sure putting the role up for grabs makes Nervous.. well nervous..

I believe that their has to be an established base of those who are willing to portray politicians from the outside, and prove that we can actually have a meaningful, and dedicated group to transition into "official", law changing politics.

-----

Lastly, @AVRO DANKASTER is doing a lot that goes unseen by the average player. I can personally attest to his dedication in helping those who seek help. I came to him with an Idea, and we spent at least a solid month of almost hourly messages planning and coordinating the launch of a power company within GTAW. My failure had NOTHING to do with lack of opportunity.. as Avro gave me ample opportunity and foundation to carry out the plan we laid out... I just got too big for my britches and with no one interested in putting my hard work to use.. I said fuck it, Why not use my status to deal dope and run events?

My point is that it's easy to sit around and talk about growing areas of RP, but everyone has to contribute to that becoming a reality, and you have to prove to management that opening such avenues would be effective and the end product is a healthy addition to our economy, and not another Duke Energy scenario.

At the end of the day, I see ZERO campaigning or initiative based ad's by ANY party.. If it wasn't for my forum search regarding politics within the community, I'd suggest their was no such thing as politics here..... We cant RP a political party with our OOC friends and never bring the rest of the community into the mix...

You have to get out their and make some noise to be heard.. Continue with the party RP and see what comes of it.. Elected roles and public voting is obviously in the works, just gotta keep showing we are worthy.

I believe that more promotion should be considered. There is barely any press releases done, I don't see any posts on Facebrowser or see public announcements being done on this forum. If you want the community to be more engaged, then those are the very first steps in becoming known. If I am not mistaken, there was a Thanksgiving event done by the government which was barely advertised, I figured it out on the day when it happened itself.

I organized the Thanksgiving event. It was done on an extremely tight schedule, as I’d became a member of the government the day prior to coming up with the event. The reason it was mostly promoted the day before the event/the day of was because the promotional material wasn’t greenlighted until that time.

But saying that it was barely promoted is simply not true. I sent a DM to every friend I had on FaceBrowser (50+) with a personalized invite card. I put out /cad’s as instructed by Avro and promoted the event IG by inviting people on behalf of Mayor Rockford. I’m sorry this promotional campaign didn’t reach you.

We are hosting a Christmas event this Friday and I have prepared all of the aforementioned promotional tactics for it, and I’m trying to figure out the FB algorithm to broaden my reach on FB. I also gained access to the official LSGOV account, so I’m going to be finally using that as a more official medium to engage people. Regrettably, promotion this time around is hindered by my real life obligations, but luckily I have another person involved with the event who’s going to make up for what I lack.

If you want to know more about the work I do to promote things or if you have ideas how I can better facilitate engagement, don’t hesitate to shoot me a PM.

I've seen the event advertised on Facebrowser so it is good that you guys are starting to promote more. Just a tip that I want to give is to make a page for the government, rather than it being an individual account. It has a different layout and looks more professional.
