The Need For Banham Speed

Saturday At The Races, Anyone?

Kalani Jamil

Banham Canyon was the host of one of the cities' first successful timed racing events this Saturday, as twenty racers lined up to complete a course that, with its twists and turns, proved a challenge to even the most competitive racers. The event, sponsored by a variety of local businesses, drew a big crowd, despite the fact it remained fairly under wraps. The event was won by Katsu Salvadore, who won first place in an Annis Elegy Retro with a time of 1:46, followed by Jack Runner, also in an Elegy Retro, with a close second of 1:47. finally rounding off the top three with Sage Bernhardt, who scored a 1:53. The event saw a huge community outreach by both the Los Santos Police Department and the Los Santos Fire Department, who attended in full force.

A Competitor Lines Up To Take His Score

We spoke to John Monroe, the event organiser, about the event.

The event was attended by six police officers, accompanied by as many police cruisers. John told us that he was surprised by the supportiveness of the police department, due to his previous experiences with the law. In line with the responsibilities, John showed the safe environment that was created by the department, which John described as one of his own motivations - the city lacking a good, safe and legal event of this calibre. To round up his points around the police department, he gave credit where it was due and thanked the departments for conducting the event in a professional manner. Giving special thanks to the fire department for checking up on the event, and showing the same level of excitement as he did for the event.

There was a heavy outreach program at the event.

John made no shortages in the safety department, either, all vehicles were fitted with a roll-cage and contestants were to wear protective clothing during the event. There were four crashes during the event, in which the only one received immediate medical attention before being declared as a minor injury. Ultimately, the event proved to be a landmark in the live-racing industry, with other projects in the work to create more similar events from other firms, could we see the formation of an early-racing league in Los Santos? Could we possibly see that extend to a simultaneous event as popularised on television? Regardless, the future of the racing industry looks promising, with more resources being poured in public outreach all throughout government organisations, it is beginning to look as if the tide is turning, music to the ears of car fans throughout the city.
