Vicious pre-empted attack leaves man armless. Is mob activity really at a decline?

“The attacker wasn’t much to look at. I’ve seen bigger guys.” An eye witness recalled, “What he did have was a sadistic ease to violence that filled bystanders with fear. I mean… The guy continuously slammed that car door until the arm severed. The victim called out for help but I couldn’t bring myself to do anything; all anyone could do was watch. It makes me sick.”

That interview left a bitter taste in my mouth. We’re told that organized crime is on the decline with the efforts of the Los Santos law enforcement, however the last three years have done little to stop brutal mob attacks terrorizing society. Shop owner Arnold Whates was viciously attacked outside his grocery store on Innocence Boulevard of LS after supposedly failing to pay a debt with local loan sharks; his refusal to cooperate with police highlights the fear this community lives in. Sure, the giants who dominated LS after the turn of the millennium have been toppled, but who did the cleanup job?

The mob have exploited the cracks in our system. Men who ducked the claws of prosecution have rebuilt their rackets and bound together for mutual benefit. Mobland specialist Jerry Capeci hit the nail on the head in a recent article, “Yeah, those boys from Kansas city were king of the streets. Method of income aside, the control they had was admirable. There was order. A hierarchy in mob activity across the city. Los Santos is now slipping into a dangerous era. You got guys from defunct families banding together to peruse criminal enterprise. There is no dominant outfit out there to keep this in check. Mobsters no longer have to answer to a governing body. If they want to move into an area and exploit a community, they’ll do it. Now the feds are chasing pocket groups all over the city and it’s a strain on our resources.”

I grew up on E. 54th Street, a stone’s throw from Russell DiCello’s old social club “The Blue Mill”. It’s a beautiful community with charm and character but plagued by mob activity. In the year 2019 I shouldn’t have to worry about my child's exposure to unruly violence. How many more communities will fall to the sickness that is the mafia over the coming years? If these groups aren't stopped, we'll be back where we were three years ago. This is a question our cities finest must answer. Answer and resolve.

THE VENTURAS CRIME FAMILY

The Venturas crime family is an Italian-American organized crime family that is known for its influence in the city of Las Venturas, San Andreas and surrounding areas in the state and is part of the nationwide criminal network known as the American Mafia or Cosa Nostra. Once known for its lucrative rackets and violent crimes, the organization has seen a major decline as of recent 2019. With a line of crippling indictments being carried out, and heinous murders taking place within the hierarchy. To the men who had made their career in criminality this was as real as the Wall Street crash. Indictments were being handed out like parking tickets and lines of income were cut and buried, people were going missing; Many were pinched, more seemed to turn rat and those who were left went underground. With the threat of imprisonment a reality, the activity of this once dominant organization in it's own home-town was shortly coming to a demise. At a time it was unsure of whether or not activity from this organization was being conducted until Vincent Lagrusa, a reputed captain within the organization, and several other notable members were seen in the city of Los Santos as of July 2019.

Misguided taps, and false information provided in the past has left media in question of the group's true hierarchy for several years, dubbing the large organization the “Venturas crime family” considering it’s large influence of members of mainly Italian descent, and “mafia-like” structure. Mob experts once pointed to Lawrence Pelino, a prominent member of the late Venturas organization who was thought to have been leading the group at a point in time until his sudden death in November of 2015. Mob specialists assumed there would be a decline in activity after Pelino’s murder but quite the opposite happened and what seemed to be an internal feud spurred, leaving four other members of the organization dead not even four months after Pelino’s decease. These four murders would later serve as detrimental, fueling an investigation that would later incarcerate over a dozen high-ranking mafioso suspected of having ties to the Venturas crime family.

LOS SANTOS

2018-2019:

Recent turnovers in the underworld of the city of Los Santos have created an unregulated playing field, open to organized networks that escaped prosecution in the mob’s downturn. Through extortion, loansharking, drug trafficking, gun slinging, gambling and other ventures, the organization tirelessly sought to exploit the city of Venturas’ downtrodden communities and claw profit from the control of illegal enterprise until their slight demise in 2018; And with notable gangsters like Vincent Lagrusa making frequent appearances within the city of Los Santos, mob experts expect nothing less but for the cycle to continue given the cities’ track record with organized crime. With the recent disappearances, and incarcerations of notable members of the Civella dubbed “Los Santos crime family”, the influx of these different organized crime networks is to no surprise. Roy Capra, a reputed member of the organization and assumed to be apart of the administration was among one of those incarcerated. A prominent gangster in the city of Los Santos who was known for his violent acts and acting on the behalf of infamous mob boss Salvatore Lena; whose presence we have not seen in several months. Without the regulation previously enforced by this group, it’s safe to say the Venturas’ organization will expand without sanction if Lagrusa’s presence truly means the organization has found a new home.
