Mad Swan Bloods also known as “The Byrd Gang is an African-American street gang that originates from South Los Angeles, California. Meanwhile in Los Santos, Carmelo Hill and right hand, Sean Merrill, have established themselves as men on the cold, concrete corners of Chamberlain Hills, supplying illegal narcotics throughout their neighborhood to other branches of their street organization. Until one night, after a 24/7 convenience store robbery, Los Santos Police’s crime task force captures Carmelo Hill after leaving multiple amateur fingerprints and evidence during the heist. From there, Hill is sentenced to a six-year sentence in San Andreas Correctional Facility without the possibility of parole.

Armed Robber Arrested after Convenience Store Robbery

September 16, 2015 | Alexander Summers | LS Times Staff Writers

On September 15, 2015, a 24/7 convenience store in East Los Santos was robbed on Tuesday by two African-American males. Until today, the Los Santos Police Department’s pursuit on the two armed robbers was parched and heading in no direction. Police discovered that one of the armed men involved on the 24/7 robbery was Carmelo Hill, a probable, reputed “Mad Swan Bloods” gang member while the other gunman remains unknown to LEOs.

Earlier in the investigation period, detectives found numerous fingerprints on the counter besides the cash register, prints on the bullets discharged (including two in the cashier’s kneecap), and handprints on the front door of the convenience store. All evidence lead directly to Carmelo Hill, officials took action and discovered a white 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan outside of Hill’s residence on Forum Drive that looked identical to the getaway vehicle used at the scene. The LSPD detained the suspect [Hill] into custody the following night.

After going on trial, Hill was accounted guilty for attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of an illegal firearm, and evasion but was only charged as a minor in the San Andreas Supreme Court. Immediately, he [Hill] was transferred by Police to SACF (the San Andreas Correctional Facility) after being given two years with a chance of parole.

Police managed to seize a portion of the illicit money that seemingly came from the 24/7 East Los Santos robbery inside of Hill’s white 2003 Toyota Corolla. However, anyone that has information that may help police find the second suspect must call Crime Stoppers immediately at (555)-312-STOP.

EAST LOS SANTOS - When it comes to gangs, East Los Santos is far from places like South Central.

However, the gang situation in the Strawberry area is quickly becoming very serious, according to anti-gang activist reverend Leon Kelly, who has been working with East Los Santos' gang unit.

Kelly has monitored gang activity in East Los Santos for the past 30 years. When East Los Santos Police Chief Robert White admitted the city was experiencing an uptick in gang-related activity this year, Kelly gave his perspective on the issue and why he believes gang crime is on the rise in the city.

Regarding three gang-related deaths that happened within 24 hours, reverend Kelly said it was only a matter of time. To understand why, Kelly said people need to understand what has changed within Los Santos’ gangs this year.

"It's not the fact that new gangs are on the rise," Kelly said. "These are older gangs with newer players, younger players."

Kelly said the Bloods and Crips are still the dominant gangs in East Los Santos but newer, younger members seem to be in charge. Kelly believes many of them are using another level of brutality that is worrisome.

"The type of malice and type of total disregard for a human body has made it different than what I've seen in the past," Kelly explained. "When I'm seeing these kids dying and the way that they're dying, it causes me to be able to say this is something that is serious."

Since January, East Los Santos has seen eight gang-related murders and nearly a dozen gang-related assaults, according to East Los police.

Reverend Kelly says the details on nearly every one are startling.

"From what I've been able to see for a number of the homicides, it's almost like the cartel," Kelly said, "They're sending a message."

Kelly said East's gangs are nowhere as established as ones in other urban areas of Los Santos, which means there is a good chance police and the community can help curb the issue.
