Little Seoul Burns

The Burning of the Wook Noodle House

The Wook Noodle House, housed in the Yee Hing Building, A Heritage site, built in 1910 and burnt down in 1976, has finally fallen. Taken down in the same way that had once consumed the building over forty years ago. A local business with sufficient fame, the reasons behind the fire are currently unknown. The fire has been another incident in a long range of attacks on the Asian-American community in Los Santos. Just in the past few months, Little Seoul saw a shooting during the Chrysanthemum Festival (Credit to R&R), several shootings and hit and run incidents, and was forced to retreat onto the roofs of the Wook Noodle House during the #OccupyWeazel Protests out of fear of their safety (pictured below), an article on the OccupyWeazel protests can be found here (Credit to R&R).

The building was built when Los Santos was a mere hub for gold miners around Blaine County, a beacon of East Asian unity, the building welcomed workers coming in from China that worked on the railroads and many of the foundations of the public works that still exist in Los Santos can be traced back to these workers. A building that is no stranger to fires, it once fell to flames back in the nineteen-seventies, before being rebuilt. Following that, it acted as a hub during the Los Santos Riots in the early nineties, creating similar scenes to the picture above. Most recently, the building was a landmark in a road dedicated to East Asian pride, hosting the 'Wook Noodle House',  which has reached wide acclaim in Los Santos.

The building was occupied at the time of the fire, but thankfully, no major injuries were sustained as a result of it. We spoke to some witnesses, who did not wish to be named, who claimed that the fire was started by a group of unnamed assailants, originating from the group's apparent racial attacks on the East Asian community. It is currently unknown who is being investigated for this suspected arson attack. The onlookers were desperate to ensure that the government steps in to fund the restoration of the building due to its cultural heritage and local importance to the people of Los Santos, specifically Little Seoul, however, the government were not available for comment.

According to onlookers, there were reports of infighting between the two responding departments, however, this is unconfirmed.

Saints News reached out to the Los Santos Fire Department, who refused to make a comment other than that the suspected attack is currently under investigation, the Los Santos Police Department was not able to comment at this time due to a lack of available Media Relations Officers.

Los Santos - What do you think? Should the government step into the restoration of the building? As of the publication of this article, no future on the restoration plans of the Yee Hing Building has been given by any party.
