No it's a completely valid argument. It's a larger issue imo in kinda differentiating the GTA universe from the RL universe. For example, we use our own makes and models for cars, totally fine, but most people have no issues roleplaying their pistols as say, a Glock 26 or a 1911. Real phones from iPhones to Nokia's are listed at the phone store. Real music artists and pop culture references are abound, including politicians; so it's just a larger example of to what extent we suspend our disbelief if you will. I think things generally work out fine, though. With regards to your legal question, most common issues (Though obviously we can't make laws for everything) have San Andreas laws on the books. For example, stopping at a crosswalk is in the penal code Second page on public road markings requires drivers to come to a complete stop when pedestrians are crossing at walkways. There is also a jaywalking infraction for civilians not using them.

Generally, if that's the point you're after then afaik from that thread I linked if it's not in writing as a San Andreas law, we default to U.S Federal law, not california law. As for general like...pop culture references? I guess just kinda wing it? Does J-Lo live in vinewood instead of hollywood? Discuss lol.

Legally, it's been clarified that we do not follow California laws. But I believe the main debate here is whether San Andreas exists with California still existing or replaces California. -

Generally current events are suspended or negated regardless (at minimum they're modified to work in the setting). For example realistically a city the size of LS would be under major COVID lockdowns and restrictions right now, but as a community people generally agreed that people wanted to get away from that and not roleplay it in a video game. If that's possible there's no reason we'd have to be bound to whatever current events are happening in LA.

it does bring up a bit of an interesting conundrum. If California still exists, does Liberty City exist or New York City, or both? Miami or Vice City? I don't really think there's a "right" or "wrong" answer, but it is interesting to think about.

I'm uh...not sure a minecraft server and a self described heavy roleplay server are fair comparisons

  9. I've been shot at, I know the feeling.
  10. I mean if I was -in- the car when you tried to steal it from me, probably yes because obviously I wouldn't know your real intentions. If it was just in the driveway? Probably not, no. It kinda depends on situation; it's always a last resort in a "Me or them" situation. But I get on how a lot of PF holders here are very gung ho and will just blast anyone for any reason because they know it's "legal" and their characters have 0 remorse for it.
  11. the PF problem is a logical response to a place with such a (comparibly) high crime rate. I own a glock 26 IRL and have a CCW. Do I carry it every day? Fuck no, truth being told, it mostly just sits in my safe at the apartment because I don't really feel a need to carry it. But if I had about the same chance of being a victim of crime as in our fictional "los santos", I'd probably carry everywhere I go. You can make the (valid) argument that people should RP it's a much larger city and as such crime would actually not be nearly as high, but still that's how most people will play it. I agree there's way too many PF holders, just not sure how to control it more than it already is.
