  1. My current char is blaxican and a "civilian" and experienced much the same in Eastside too, it's very strange. Then there's people who are just absolutely mindblown by the concept that not all latinos are one shade of brown. Good guide and think it's great to see someone trying to bridge the gap of understanding between legal and illegal RPers rather than just bashing each other.
  2. jarrito cartel
  3. I would say don't put too much pressure on doing this any certain type of way. I know people who write novels for backstories (I am one of them) and I know people who maybe write a few bullet points of character turning moments to keep in mind as well as basic character details (hometown, age, ethnicity, etc) and I know people who simply do the basic details with a summary line of their character and wing it. While I like getting in depth with my character's backstories and reasons for being who he is today, I don't think how you write it is an indication of a good roleplayer, or a developed character. I've witnessed some of the best RPers I know mostly wing it. That being said, there are a lot of resources for writing, usually used by authors but it can apply to anyone creating a character from the ground up. If you just do a quick google search of "character background template/character profile template" or something along those lines, you'll find a variety of checklist style documents that can give you the option to choose the one you like and then all you'd have to do is work your way through the document filling in the blanks and seeing it all come together. Another thing you could do if you're more of a visual person than a writer is a timeline. Quite literally draw a line where one end is the character's birth and the other end is present day and along the timeline make notes of key moments in life, in as little or as much detail as you need to get a grasp on it. A backstory is for you first and foremost. It doesn't have to be any type of way. A page of rough notes that no one would understand but you is just as good as a 10-page document that looks like its straight out of a book. You definitely don't need to be on par with a professional writer to succeed in creating a developed character backstory.
  4. no doubt this would be a massive improvement +1
  5. Practice and observe! Which sounds counterproductive when you have been banned from the server but if you have access to other servers to get experience on you will be fine. Don't be afraid to just get stuck in. There will always be people who are elitist in these circles but most are willing to help so long as your lack of experience doesn't greatly effect their own experience. Anyone who says they don't look back on their first, second, or even fifth character, and cringe at how they used to RP, is probably lying. But those characters can still bring fun to you and others and they're essential in creating the foundation for what could become an amazing 10th character and so on. Keep trying, watch TV and read books to get a feel for dialogue and getting that back and forth, listen to (constructive) criticism and also remember it's just a game and as long as you are following server rules and have a faction or group of people who enjoy what you do then that's all that matters. Have fun mate and maybe see you back on the server in future 🫡
  6. That time frame is up to you and the IC events that unfold. A homeless man being offered a decent job by a kind person is naturally going to progress faster than a homeless man that can't find employment and maybe has a drug addiction that makes working difficult, for example. I wouldn't see it as steps and more so just gradual progression that will happen naturally as you RP and meet others and have either progressing or hindering interactions. A person's life irl isn't defined by a staircase like progression, it's more of a wavy line up and down. If you want a truly authentic character and a realistic rags to riches progression defined by RP rather than script gain then allow that wave to happen rather than implementing rigid steps with rigid time frames.
  7. You forgot the stupid lines of RP that went with the bottom right.
  8. Short lived but not at all without impact, fun and awesome RP with friendships made along the way. Appreciate this section of Nate's story. Ain't seen the last of the Lozanos yet though. @Veselin
  9. I don't see how this reduces staff workload. All it does is shift the work from an RPQM report to the work of reading, discussing and answering special character applications. The latter likely having more of a time pressure on it because the person waiting to be accepted will want to RP. I agree that the portrayal of transgender characters on the server for the most part sucks and involves stereotype after stereotype, but if we're being honest, so does the portrayal of pretty much every concept here. Can't lock every concept behind an application, all we can do as a community is keep an eye out for the bad ones and either report or guide them.
  10. love the thread n the concept, keep it going
