On the 10th of October, 2023, Republican Senator Andrew Brandenburg held a conference at Davis High School, Los Santos. He approached the subjects of educational improvements, State-funded grants for foster-care children and rehabilitated ex-convicts and the importance of education for a stable future in San Andreas. During the speech, as a surprise annoucement, he stated that, together with his family, he will make a personal donation of one million dollars to the school, which faced a round of applause.
"I've always been a great supporter of the educational process and even since I have first joined politics, I have promised to bring improvements to our educational system and to make a better educational environment for everyone in our State. Throughout my time as Senator, I've provided as much help as I could to the best university in our State, ULSA, and I have always been there when they have asked for my help, and God knows I'll always lend a helping hand to our educational institutions. Now, speaking of educational reformation and improvements, I will like to address the first step of the plans I have set in motion towards the betterment of our educational system. Earlier this month, I have proposed a bill to the Senate. This bill, titled The Fair Education and Opportunity Act, aims to provide better opportunities to those who have been raised in foster care and cannot afford school tuitions, be them at highschool or at university. With the help of this bill, children who have not had the blessing to be raised by a family, will have the chance to make a better future for themselves, in order to be able to lead a normal and happy life. Also, apart from the children raised in foster care, this bill will also provide help and opportunity for those who have made wrong choices or mistakes in their lives. The second point of the Fair Education and Opportunity Act will provide the ability to apply for a state-granted tuition to those who have been convicted and rehabilitated. Of course, there will be conditions of elligibility for those who wish to apply. What this bill intends, is, as the title states, to provide a boost of opportunity for those who did not have the chance at a better life, but they will be able to get that chance now.
Now, as I said, I have always been a strong supporter of our educational system and I have always helped ULSA when asked. But now, it is time to turn my gaze towards our younger students. So, today, I look towards Davis High. The Davis High School sets the first steps towards superior education for our students and sets them on the route for a better future. Davis High School is the first vector towards the formation of younger generations and towards the future of our State. So, as we all know, things always should be started from step one. As such we must also do with our educational system and with the future of our state and our country. In the last weeks, my office has tried to identify the problems that our educational institutions face and we have started working on a multi-step program in order to improve the quality of the education and to fix what needs to be fixed. As I said, the Fair Education and Opportunity Act is just the first phase of the plan. And I was not alone in devising this first step. For the initiative of this bill, I wish to thank none other than Arthur Scarpino, from ULSA, so please, join me in a round of applause for Mr. Scarpino. Now, given the fact that up until now, Davis High has not been in the spotlight as much as I would've wanted, in the next steps of the educational reformation program, I will work closely with the staff from Davis High, in order to hear out their expertise and together we will try to solve the problems that our highschool educations faces.
And now, at last, but not least, considering the lack of attention that Davis High has faced until now, I have also taken a personal initiative. As a token of appreciation and to show how important the educational system is for me, I will together with my family, offer a donation to the High School, of no less than one million dollars. I will personally and directly deliver these funds to the highschool, without any middleman. I will personally transfer the funds to the highschool later this day", said Mr. Brandenburg in his speech at the event, after which he announced a Q&A.
During the event, his team has also provided free food for the citizens to enjoy, as well as various games for the students to play. The Mayor of Los Santos, Republican Hank Preston, also attended the event.
"I think it's a wonderful step in the right direction, promoting transparency on his and the Senate's efforts to help elevate underprivileged kids. Something I'm gonna be looking to help emulate and inspire efforts in the City Council to do similar", said Mr. Preston in a statement for Los Santos Insider.
Several teachers and students from Davis High could be seen in the audience, visibly interested in the event, as well as the school's Dean.
