  7. Psychologist and Patient roleplay Hello everyone. In this guide I will try my best to give you an overview of how to roleplay a Psychologist and also how to interact with one if you decide to roleplay a patient. What is a Psychologist and what does he/she study? A psychologist studies normal and abnormal mental states, perceptual, cognitive, emotional, and social processes and behavior by experimenting with, and observing, interpreting, and recording how individuals relate to one another and to their environments. What does this mean? A psychologist technically is someone who even has the authority to conduct social experiments for research purposes, if allowed by the Psychologists Ethics Board. A Psychologists can be anyone. That tittle can be claimed by anyone and can be used to scam if the person wishes too. Now how to confirm if someone is a proper psychologist, and he/she is actually roleplaying a good intent? Usually the prefered terms are Clinical Psychologist and Counseling Psychologist. Anyone who uses such tittle for himself and still tends to scam or do it only for money should be reported for poor portrayal. Now, what is the difference? Anyone who has a level of BA(Bachelor) education, can be a psychologist, but to be a Clinical Psychologist or Counseling Psychologist you require a level of Phd(Doctorate), which usually takes up to 9 years to finish. What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist? (Patients read this) Usually players tend to create character with symptoms that sometimes a psychologist can't help with. This happens because of the misconception that comes with the before mentioned terms. We already mentioned above what is a Psychologist, but what about the Psychiatrist? A Psychiatrist is someone who treats mental health conditions like, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and addiction. Psychiatrist are medical doctors, psychologists are not. Psychiatrists prescribe medication, psychologists can't. Psychiatrists diagnose illness, manage treatment and provide a range of therapies for complex and serious mental illness. Psychologists focus on providing psychotherapy (talk therapy) to help patients. Great! Now you know how to tell the difference. How to get started? Now that you've accumulated the information above, you're ready to create a character and dive into the roleplay. Well no! Sadly a psychologist needs a workspace. You'll need an office, that can have at least a couch and a sofa. If you already have those it's awesome, but if you don't, there are a few options. First you can rent a place. Working from home is a great solution. If you're looking forward to be more appealing, then it's best if you have an office. Those can be easily obtained with a lease request forwarded to Property Management through the UCP system, and they're affordable. Another option is working somewhere. The server currently has many options for you to get started. Factions like Government and Police Department usually open their applications for civil positions, where they will require a psychologist. Another way to work for someone is a clinic. Players open private clinics, like Hope Health Clinic for example, and they tend to hire a wide range of staff, in order to have a variety of employees with one field of expertise. "I have a workplace, what do I do now?" When working by yourself, in your house or office, you'll need to start advertising your activity. Make sure to leave your phone number. What is important is not to overlap appointments. Set rules for yourself. How long do you want the sessions? How much will you charge per session? That is, if you'll work by yourself. Now when working for others you don't have much freedom. Let's work with the three examples. Government, PD, and Clinics. In government you'll be hired by the Public Social Services department. You will answer to a director and what needs he or she will have. There will be times that you will be called for projects. ICly you will be needed to provide your point of view on a project that will impact the civil populace and give your opinion on what is more benefitial for them. Another duty you will have is the welfare of staff. Being reponsible for employees mental health and stability is a psychologists job. I will not mention PD as the only job you have there is the welfare of staff. Now when it comes private clinics, you will be provided with a workspace. The owner/manager will advertise the clinic as a whole. If there are patients that will require a psychologist, you should be up to the task for it. Working alone is nice, but I recommend working with others as it gives more dynamic to your roleplay. None the less, it's your choice and your style of roleplay. "I have a patient!" (Patients read this) Great! Now you have a patient. If you're lucky the patient is someone who has visible symptoms and is expressive with his behavior, and you're able to finalize a diagnosis. But what if the patient is not that cooperative? Well you start making basic and simple question like, "Why are you here?" "What do you think is wrong with you?". If you're someone who can come up with better solution of how to make someone talk is even better. What I would suggest is that you, as the psychologist, use a fair amount of /do that would ask for any visible trait, or for any repetitive behavior. Anything that might give you a lead and start tracking down the root of the problem. On the other hand you have to expect the player behind the patient to give you a lead. This is a very delicate roleplay, and if the patient decides to roleplay a cold attitude, no generic behaviors, blank facial expression and give short cut answers, then you have no chance of breaking down that patient. It's not the psychologist foult, it's the patients. You patients roleplay have to realise that this type of roleplay is to help your characters. If you decide to give nothing about your character to the person roleplay a psychologist, then there is nothing we can do. In game is really hard to decipher a characters mind, so you have to be collaborative. Just a little paragraph as why I should be a reliable guide. I've roleplayed as a Psychologist for a while now. I'm currently roleplaying as part of government, a volunteer in a lower class clinic, and I take private appointments. I've doing this for the past 6 months. Meanwhile in real life, I've studied 1 years Human Behavior. A part in the field of psychology that explains why a person acts a certain way, or why a person does a simple action like standing, in a specific way. My knowledge is not on an academic level, but I've practiced for a while. I hope this guide can help those who want to roleplay a psychologist or those who want to roleplay a patient. Thank you for reading.

  9. I feel that especially recently the community in some regards has been split on a stupid boundary of legal vs illegal role play. These titles are ridiculous and only create division where there needs to be none. The terms legal and illegal are something you’d find in an RPG and are honestly not suitable for this server. This server is supposed to represent real life and realistic characters. In the real world people aren’t strictly separated by terms like legal and illegal. the world has many more grey areas and people simply can not fall into these two categories. Someone can commit a minor crime such as doing some drugs recreationally, speeding when they think no one is watching, getting into scraps the list goes on and on. These acts don’t make people career criminals. The onus I feel is on a lot of the “legal” role players to realise and understand that there’s a difference between committing a crime and being a career criminal, I think the server would greatly benefit from more “legal” role players who realise this and incorporate it into their characters. I’d love to see normally upstanding civilians getting cosy with career criminals and partaking in things like gambling, buying illegal substances, using illegal items (think buying fake ids etc.) If we get rid of this two way system I honestly feel we’d have a more united community, one that isn’t seemingly pitched against each other. One that doesn’t blame all criminals RPers when they have a bad encounter. Would love you hear what you guys think.

  10. Overview The South Central Network is a semi-organized drug trafficking organization based in the city of Los Santos. It is mainly made up of older-generation African Americans who evolved from local street gangs and adapted their techniques and strategies upon experiencing the generational changes in the drug-trade, straying from their individual gang backgrounds to create something more organized. Everything is strictly systematized, with a hierarchy and structure imposed. The South Central Network takes advantage of the absence of structure and hierarchy amongst african american gangs, and they benefit from this lack of structure or leadership to use smaller gangs in the South Los Santos area as muscle and distribution. OOC Information The faction aims to depict an organization that focuses in narcotics trafficking in South LS. If you are interested in becoming a part of the faction, you are expected to join through purely IC means, metagaming will not be tolerated. Although our faction takes heavy inspiration from real-life events and organizations, the faction's development is going to be completely in-character and the faction will be fictional based on whatever happens in-character, with the progression showcased both IC and on the thread. Our main goal is to have a natural developmental stage, so however the faction develops all depends on what happens in-character. If there are questions about the faction, you can direct it towards @Sqreix or @Shekh. The faction has a discord server for all faction members. However, we will only send an invite once we deem that you will be active enough to be with us. Upon joining the faction, you agree to a character-kill if the faction leadership deems it necessary.

  11. It should be emphasized that the experience was enjoyable because participation was possible for both sides in the encounter. The muggers actually allowed engagement by offering opportunities that were not just "give us everything or we'll kill you and take everything". Their focus was not on script items, their focus was to create roleplay. That is what is often the difference - if the criminals create the scene with roleplay being the reward rather than strictly script success, it is very likely they will find less OOC conflict. If it were possible to do so without metagaming, I would likely try to reward such encounters.

  12. Short description: Instead of always having to carry cash to send a text or make a call via a PAY2G phone, make it so it withdraws from the bank account instead. Detailed description: Not sure how much you can add to this, but I believe it would be more feasible and more realistic if it withdrew from your bank account rather than cash on hand, even if the PAY2G is meant to simulate a burner phone in which no paper trail would preferably be left behind. Commands to add: None Items to add: None How would your suggestion improve the server? I guess this would be more of an attempt to improve quality of life. Additional information:

  13. Definitely not a fan of the labels either. There should be no strictly 'illegal' and 'legal' characters, all characters should be human beings. My character's an MS-13 gangbanger, but is he strictly illegal? Hell no. The character's life could change in an instant and he could end up doing legal things inside. People who try to keep everything black and white are the same ones who treat the game like it's an RPG and act like every single loss they take IC is an OOC punishment and an OOC loss. Gonna step in here and say that this is not only a massive generalization, but it rarely happens nowadays. Nobody's gonna jump out and try to murk a cop unless the circumstances are extreme, there's too many risks associated with PKing cops. This problem was fixed a long time ago and it's gradually improving. Another generalization. I've never committed a crime in my life, but some of my best friends in real life are involved in street shit. Does that make me a criminal? No. Does that mean I'm banned from society because I grew up with and know a guy who might sell cocaine now? Definitely not. Ninety percent of people in 'society' don't give two shits who you associate with. There's people in real life in places such as LA that openly hang out with and associate with gangbangers, some of them even go and testify in court against the enemies of their so called 'career criminal' friends, they never end up banned from society for doing this, nor does anybody who gets cosy with criminals. For example, if John Smith lives in Little Seoul, has a business in Little Seoul and also lives in the same apartment complex as a group of MS-13 gang members, of course he's gonna get to know them, they're in the neighbourhood he lives in, so he has to. Nobody's gonna try and tell John Smith he's banned from society because he said what's up to Jose 'Ese Face-Tattoos' Vasquez in the hallway of his apartment complex. Why? Because the majority of people in society know that Jose 'Ese Face-Tattoos' Vasquez is simply a product of his environment, somebody who's in a position where he has to do what he's got to do. In fact in my opinion it's beneficial for legal roleplayers to get to know the criminal groups in the areas that they live IC, people try to create this barrier between illegal and legal rp and imo it needs to stop.

  14. I've seen videogame developers and even companies go bankrupt over IP licenses. It's why most games these days avoid licenses and shit like that. Client-side mods are completely fine, but once something goes server-side and EVERYONE has access to it then it becomes a problem. Edit: And this isn't about you or a modder catching a lawsuit over an IP, it's about the server itself.

  15. Text RP is literally about creating things and actions through text, should we not RP shaking someones hand because we can't actually see it happening? Why isn't there an outrage because we can't see someone shaking hands? Text RP is a vehicle for story telling, and the visuals only exist because we use gtav as a base. Hell text RP started as just that, text, imagination is the biggest driving factor in text RP. If you can't imagine someone wearing a Gucci shirt shit because it's not in the game, I have no idea how you imagine people shaking hands. I'd also like to reiterate that implementing these clothing items is most certainly not worth the legal risk that comes with it, even if no legal action ever happens it's best not to risk it at all.

  17. I think that's honestly looking at it a bit black and white. I do agree that reports need to be filed in order for change to take place, but I also understand why some people would avoid filing reports. One reason was already highlighted, which is the possibility that the owner/victim simply wants the RP to be over with so they can just forget about it, or keep their interaction with the criminals to a minimum. However, another possible reason which was not highlighted and I believe affects some people is the possibility of backlash and being unsure of what is "good portrayal of extortion" and "bad portrayal of extortion". You see, if you file a report on a criminal faction / individual about poor portrayal, who is extorting you, and your report is not sustained... well, now the person who is extorting your character very likely is not a big fan of you OOCly and might even be holding a grudge against you. Now, you might get into bigger shit, have to pay a higher price, have the person be a nuisance in some way, get harassed, or have them try to find any reason to CK you. Orrrrrrrr, none of that might happen and they might not see the situation any differently and not allow their emotions affect their IC actions. However, the possibility is there. I did not create this thread with the intention of /complaining/ about the state of extortion. I highlighted questionable actions that I've observed, and was simply wondering about the opinions of other individuals to have a better judgement and understanding of the situation as a whole. I do not think that's a sin.

  18. I see a lot of stories but not a lot of solid evidence. You’re all complaining about rampant poorly RPd extortions but I’ve not seen one of you post evidence or one of you make a report. I am on your side in the fact that I believe those are RP it badly or unrealistically should be punished but that cannot and will not happen until you guys start posting actual proof and either reporting it or passing it to said faction hierarchies and having them sort it. Complaining about an issue won’t fix it, you need to actually do something substantial that will require slightly more effort than complaining on this thread.

  19. Only because in reality law enforcement is far, far more effective and organized crime is far, far more dangerous than the IC situation we have on the server. Normal people know that going to the police is the best chance they have. The situation on the server is much more like a small town in the Wild West, with many small groups of armed criminals, ineffective law enforcement, and a somewhat larger group of civilian individuals and small business owners. The big difference is that law enforcement is much more effective at suppressing the civilians' ability to arm themselves and defend their lives and property, whereas in the Wild West most people were armed and law enforcement probably wouldn't care if a known criminal got himself killed while committing a crime. Under these conditions it is highly reasonable, and quite possibly legal, for the business owner to open fire on criminals who threaten him. What is unreasonable is for the business owner to go to another criminal group to sort the problem out. The business owner would be a party to all sorts of crimes, and he would only consider this if law enforcement were so non-functional that there would be little chance of him being held legally accountable for his dealings with organized crime. Even then he would be indebted to the gangsters who 'helped' him with his problem, and enmeshed in their influence. Given that law enforcement falls more heavily on civilian characters than on criminal characters, I don't think the server is to the point of law enforcement being that non-functional. The trouble is, it has to be like this. If the server rules and IC law enforcement policies were balanced, civilians would arm themselves, criminals would would keeping robbing them and extorting them because that's their core rp, civilians would form militias and protect themselves because it's a fucking bore to have to play the victim over and over, then the criminal gangs would take revenge, and the server would turn into this: and then this... then this... And then this.
