  4. In regards to character portrayal, I believe every faction in the server has the same right to include or exclude characters based on how realistic and believable they're perceived to be. If it's believed that a character couldn't have possibly done some of the things that are listed, then we will ask for OOC changes to the story for a more realistic feel to the character. I cannot speak to your individual case, but if you want to appeal the decision, there are ways to do so listed on our forums. As far as command over the English language goes, unfortunately, it is imperative that you have a very strong ability to write in English - especially given the time sensitive nature of the roleplay that we take part in. Not only for your sake, but for the sake of others. We want to give people the best impression possible when interacting with the faction, and one of the key components of that is strong, clear writing that doesn't confuse people. We have two to three key parts where we try to discern how much of an ability you have in regards to the English language. It starts with the personal statement on the application. Next, we go into a departmental interview where our main objective is to learn about your character, while also observing your roleplay and writing ability. Finally, we have the police academy, where the main point is to discern your capability for realistic roleplay and quick, accurate writing. Unfortunately for some people, their ability to write just isn't up to par with what we require. There are countless ways to improve your command over the English language. We usually suggest attempting to before trying to apply again.

  7. This follows the life of two Italian-American young men who were both born and raised in Denver, Colorado. This thread's purpose is to showcase their re-connection and document their life as time goes on. Frank Perrino: January 17th, 1992. The birth of baby Frank Luca Perrino propelled happiness up and down the middle class Perrino family that resided in Denver, Colorado. Baby Frank and his older sister Adriana were children of working class parents Victoria Lupano, and Marco Perrino. Victoria, a real estate office secretary worked part time while being the main caregiver for the two children. Marco however, was your average blue collar worker that struggled to keep his family afloat following the brutal recession that took place in the states. A battered back and demoralized soul was the end result of long hours and degrading pay. Although the struggle seemed unbearable from outside eyes, the Perrino family was an overall happy one despite both fiscal and personal financial restraints, you could label the Perrino’s as an average American family. Raising an Italian cultured family in Denver during the roaring 90’s was just about as feasible as growing up black in Massachusetts. Describing it as oppression is a little far-fetched, but other than throwing back some atrocious pizza and conversing with the white trash down the road, the Perrino’s were out of place, in their minds at least. Despite the constant drama the middle class Italian-American family put on themselves based on their personal views of their living situation, Frank was the only child between him and his sister Adriana to find a way out through bettering himself. See Adriana, she wasn’t like Frank, Adriana victimized herself, she wanted people to feel bad for her. Adriana lived in a split mindset and got enticed into the wrong way of life, she carried an umbrella of negativity around with her, and because of the love their parents Marco and Victoria had for the kids, they often times collapsed under the umbrella as well. Frank was different though, Frank wasn’t like his peer pressured pessimistic sister Adriana, he grew up watching his family sink into a hole which he wanted no part of. Frank, he got dealt his cards and rode the hand to the river. While his sister Adriana was causing a ruck around the neighborhood and bringing negative attention to the family, Frank continued to thrive to be better than him. Marco, his old man always told Frank as things went South with his family, “It’s one thing to learn from your mistakes, but learning from other people's mistakes is an art few have, those who do have it, they’re set for life.” Frank knew that, growing up he’d see guys get popped for petty crimes all the time, it’s almost like guys would do the same thing just to see if they could be the one to get away with it or not, stupidity chasing stupidity, Frank knew that and took a different approach. September 6th, 2010. First year at Metropolitan State University (MSU) in Denver. Young adult Frank Perrino took on a general Bachelor of Arts. It was university or the army for Frank, he wasn’t a stupid kid and got decent marks in high school so his parents figured it’d be a sin for the kid to be a pawn for some guy he never met. Being a scholar and professional in some sort of field wasn’t a desire Frank chased, getting out of small town Denver and entering the metro area was the sole purpose of going to university. At the least, addressing Frank as a decent student could be applicable, but the kid spent more time smoking and pushing weed than he did attending class. To keep a long story short, Frank got expelled from MSU, for smoking weed in school residence. He left Denver, he traveled for a couple years just like any ordinary kid would do, and ended up in Los Santos, San Andreas. Frank Perrino now sits in a heap of debt from dropping out and using his student loans to travel, has little to no communication with his family back in Denver, and barely makes enough money to pay his mortgage on a studio flat by the beach. Dead end jobs have sunken Frank into a hole where the only way out fades more and more every day, Frank’s turning into everything he promised his parents he wouldn’t be, like his sister.

  9. Juwan Greer was originally raised in the Tahitian Housing Projects on Forum drive, and is a prominent member of the West Side Jungle Stone Bloods. Juwan is also affiliated with a crew known as "All Pocketz Full" / APF and participates in robberies and kick-door activities to fuel his cocaine addiction. Juwan has been rapping ever since he met Latwon Gibbs at Davis Elementary and eventually started making music on his own after several years behind the scenes of Latwon's music career. When Juwan was 13, his older brother Ladonte "DuckDown" Greer was shot and killed while sitting in the back of a SUV with another female from the Rollin 20s Neighborhood Bloods, this only pushed Juwan deeper into the street life and began to catch cases on a regular basis, taking several trips to a Youth Authority center and the Mens Central Jail. Juwan previously resided on the corner of Forum Drive & Carson Avenue, raised by a single mother, who worked multiple jobs, including the Carson Beauty Salon and the Davis Super Mall, which she was fired from for stealing money from the registers after closing up. Derrick was forced to move and live with his younger cousin and close aunt in the All Swell Housing Projects. As Juwan got older he casually switched between households, staying with friends that lives in the area when things got too hot. By Juwan's 16th birthday, he was arrested from bringing a .22 Caliber pistol to Davis High School, this resulted in his first arrest and was released from the San Andreas Correctional Facility a year later. Despite his incarceration, Juwan still exhibits his reckless behavior and almost daily gets into altercations with rival gangs and pedestrians over the smallest incidents. By the age of 19, Juwan was a fully fledged member from the gang and is often found loitering at the B.J. Smith Recreational Park by the Strawberry Mini Market. Juwan's often led by his hunger for money, finding himself in trouble more than occasionally. Juwan was pushed further into the gang life by his elders and was given the nickname "Pressure" for continuously sagging between enemy lines alone or not . Juwan's attitude could be mistaken for someone who's easily aggravated, but actually traits a very calm and collected persona when around the gang, especially around females.

  11. They should be able to judge your character background, it doesn't make sense for a former Lieutenant or Captain from one agency to start over as a Police Officer I through recruitment. Some people just have a character background that doesn't add up or simply put things together but you have to remember that the people you interact within the department and the public will have to roleplay you and also accept the fact that you had such a background. What I personally do not agree with is that they allow you to change your entire story so it suits, especially when it is a older character where you already roleplayed with. If you roleplayed for like months and you introduced to people you were a private detective, but then all of a sudden you change the entire story so the LSPD accept it, then it would just be weird for the people you RPed with. That's just my ten cents.

  12. I think it's important that those of us that aren't native English (myself included) have to also remember that when on-duty we have to react to things pretty quickly which includes trying to de-escalate and prevent dangerous scenarios from happening. You have to be crystal clear in your text to ensure no wires are crossed and that every party understands what you're saying. On top of that, you need to relay your messages quickly as time is of the essence and not everyone will have the patience for you to sit and think of a reply. It can be stressful for a non-native English person to jump into the role of an officer where you deal with a lot more situations than you would if you were playing a random civilian. On top of the in-game situations, we have a tonne of OOC work with Incident Reports, Arrest Reports, Traffic Reports, Impound Reports, Death Reports - it's a heck of a lot of writing that other people /need/ to be able to read without struggling to understand what has been written down. So while I can understand your frustration (I've been there myself), I think it's important that a certain standard is upheld. We actually have a lot of people from Europe that aren't native English speakers. Teamspeak is a wide variety of Europeans and finding an American is actually pretty rare! (I know this because we desperately tried to find American's to record voice lines in the LSPD video and it was a nightmare!) Being on a roleplay server gives you the perfect opportunity to better your English. When I started roleplaying back during SA:MP days, my English was awful! I only ever played mute characters at the start and focused on my /me's. Eventually I would introduce characters that knew very little English until I felt comfortable with progressing. I admire /anyone/ attempting to better their English on the server and I will personally stand there all day to not pressure someone into feeling like they have to rush or are being judged. But a certain standard must be met if you're going to be representing a faction such as the LSPD and as much as it's difficult to hear, I think it's a reasonable requirement on behalf of the recruitment team. Roleplay is amazing because it let's you practice your English while having fun!

  19. I've had the opportunity to role play with Mark Garcia & Virginia Scott in game and I'm extremely impressed with this faction so far. I love their portrayl, it's nice to see the development of a character and role play in general being the main priority rather than just being in it for the action. Keep it up

  21. If the yard is simply divided by nothing but a fence, then men and women can still talk to each other, but it eliminates the possibility of abuse. Still interaction, just no physical interaction. It's not as divided as prisons are in real life, but I think it's a nice compromise between realism and RP accessibility. EDIT: and obviously don't put men and women in the same jail cell
