  2. The mass resignations were absolutely fuck all to do with the illegal factions (though it added to a lot of 'fuck it' 's). I was pretty tired of reading about spies, terrorists and female assassins to be fair. I have no clue what direction the server is going to head in, all I hope is that the people that remain enforce a good standard of quality and that we don't start a game of dominos whereby one retarded thing opens, so then another thinks they can too and so on and so forth. I wish anyone trying the best of luck.

  3. It's no surprise or shock to people that FB is so loosely moderated it's actually garbage to even use but there's been a lot of discussion around boosted posts / promoted posts it warrants an actual proper discussion about it, while I really don't care for them, other people do care and it's time to discuss it. Posts are still being boosted from months ago and it's coming from users that have long left the platform or aren't even using that character anymore, while people say take it up IC with the web developers, there's no web developers IC nor are there any public moderators to provide feedback to. So can we talk into how boosted posts are handled thanks My proposed changes You cannot boost a post thats older than two weeks Must be related to a business / job postings / events Enhance moderation on the platform or even hire actual moderators IC Note: I'm kinda fine with the illegal bits as it opens up some RP opportunities with LSPD to crackdown on it. thx to @nateX for helping with ideas and changes

  6. I just think people concern themselves too much with the whole standard talk. There is indeed a standard to be maintained. One can only hope the staff team continues to uphold such standard, and take appropriate action against those who don't follow suit in realizing this is a serious role-playing platform and it intends to maintain its reputation that way. There's endless flaws in everything and the only way you're gonna be able to enjoy this is if you loosen up a bit and take everything with a grain of salt. I'll comment on specific things I don't see fit to a player and I'd, at max, link a few guides, some of which I've made, for them to look at and reflect upon. The moment you stop taking joy into the very basic aspects of role-playing a character and developing said character along is the moment you need to reconsider why you're here. I wholeheartedly support realism but I urge everybody to realize there's going to be at least one valid argument against such tendencies, and what the vast majority of the server doesn't grasp is that this is, indeed, a game, but a role-playing game. It's fit to foster a plethora of players, and whether you play an hour a week or ten hours a day, you're still gonna feel good about it and enjoy your time. It's obvious the more one's going to be active, the more they'll find themselves more invested, knowledgeable and with bigger achievements, but that's that in any other game. Too many players are vested in the idea that they're supposed to just dictate what their character does instead of finding the joy of role-playing a character from scratch (with minimal background, depending on the broad idea you choose to portray) and go lucky, be happy. Perhaps if administration could vest into players that a role-playing server is a storytelling platform where there's no silver lining or definitive end goal, the community'd be in better shape. Right now everybody makes a character, thinks up of some stuff they want to tick off on a checklist, do it, then sit on it. You're not supposed to have a goal. You're supposed to make a character and see where the life your character's gonna have in the World universe takes you. What's fun in all of this is the ride, not the destination. Once it's all over you can look back and see what you've been doing, and then you can compare whether you've portrayed what you've been portraying good enough, and move on to the next. Just steer clear of the cancer and that's a recipe to be able to have fun along the way on the server. I'm having a blast as it is, and quite frankly, I feel that it comes from the fact that there's no peer pressure revolving around how one role-plays, One can role-play anything they want no matter how niché it is for as long as they're a) competent role-players, who have developed said concept and b) can double down and express what they're doing instead of being dumbfounded when approached — and that in essence is a nice thing to have.

  7. The issue is, GTAWorld's varying Illegal RPing communities (The Blacks, The Mexicans, The Russians, The Whites, The Bikers, The Italians, The Asians) have existing lore spanning back to the beginning of the server. The Italians are the best example: Italian organized crime first arrived in Los Santos when Sal Lena, a mob captain from Kansas city in his late 70's moved here and established a crew on behalf of the family back in Kansas City. That crew RPed for months establishing themselves and internally RPing with their "Kansas City Family" till they were able to earn their seat at the American Mob's 'Commission' and with it the title of 'Crime Family' becoming the Los Santos Crime Family. They ruled over the Los Santos underworld for over a year until Underboss Roy Capra was arrested. Sal Lena fled into hiding and the Los Santos Crime family splintered into two factions, The Conti Crew led by Capo Peter Conti and the Alo crew lead by Capo Thomas Alo, After failing to meet an agreement about what to do in the fallout following Roy Capra's arrest, Peter Conti lead Thomas Alo into a trap where Joseph Campagna executed him. With the Los Santos Crime Family in the middle of a brutal civil war, Several other crews began to emerge coming from larger mob territories farther east in the form of the Lagrusa Crew , The South Florida Crew which later dissolved, the remaining members forming a smaller crew known as The Mirra Crew. Now, three crews will have to either work out a peace deal or fight for the crown. Each of them wanting the same thing, earning the Crime Family title. I linked as many Character pages and Faction threads as I could. I hope you look at least some of the screens in each. These characters and stories, the events that unfolded ICly, even events that were almost two years ago at this point are still referenced ICly today. There was a period for about a year on this server where only one Italian faction existed. Many tried to make new ones but they were all denied. Why? Because the Italian faction already in existence was a Crime Family and had earned that title after months of IC progress. They controlled all Italian organized crime in Los Santos just like the Kansas City Crime Family controls all Italian organized crime in Kansas City. When LSCF closed, the doors opened to other crews as there was no longer a crime family controlling Los Santos. What I'm trying to say is sometimes even the most thought out factions don't fit with the servers current IC lore. Its a fact that a lot of people don't understand because if they are making a new italian faction they probably aren't currently active in the servers Italian community. They don't know whats happening in the LCN community because they aren't apart of it. This is why its suggested to join existing factions instead of forming your own.

  8. I used to see boosted posts at least 2 weeks old and sometimes 2 months old. That part is very annoying. Aside from the posts that are left boosted for far too long, the use of it shouldn’t be that much of a problem. People on sites like FB and Instagram pay to have their content suggested to more people, though the sites are a lot more sneaky about fitting it into your regular news feed & “new content” pages. Those posts don’t have to be strictly promotional/business related content either because everyone tries to be a model on real social media and getting more views allows sponsorships and things like that. We have the same thing happening in character on FB and that seems like a realistic issue. Also the criminal stuff does get handled by PD. It just looks like it doesn’t. Real dealers advertise the drugs they sell on social media & apps like snapchat so again, more realism, even if it bothers you.

  14. The thing is, people are so quick to point the finger at FM for wanting to enforce a set of standards but this ultimately lies with management. The current FM team is not experienced enough to deal with it, especially from an illegal RP POV as the staff team itself as a whole is top-heavy in PD orientation which means attention is sparse, so I hope they as a subteam receive some help from PLM and management in setting some guidelines as I tried to implement before I left. The server in its entirety would most definitely benefit, at least then there's a mutual direction that both staff and players could attempt to follow.

  24. Completely irrelevant since the majority of us decided to resign due to issues within the Management team that we did not wish to be on board with. Nervous will confirm that if needed and I'm happy to back things up with chatlogs - couldn't care less. Anyhow, this topic will end up getting locked. For what it's worth, the server was intended to be a serious roleplay server. There are a small minority of players that stick to what the server was advertised as: serious roleplay. Then there are the others that fall outside of the serious bracket and treat the server like it's a free pass to own expensive cars with little to no roleplay or character development, switch character concept every 5 minutes and then complain because no new race cars or Rockford Hills houses are being added to feed their piss poor representation of what being "rich" is. It will never change no matter how many threads are made. The reason "FM were super anal and 100% realistic" is because we were told quality was needed to be enforced in the server. That is what we delivered whether people viewed it as harsh or not. It was our job to filter out stupidity and minimize the risk of the community being turned into a shitfest of unrealism, but as proven, that'll happen regardless unless people employed to do that job are allowed to do it and sometimes make people upset in the process. It's not a nice job to do, it's a necessary job and naturally you are the most hated person in the staff team due to your team being one of the few that don't sugarcoat shit and tell people that they're doing things wrong against the server's intended direction. You just answered your own question with an assumption, basically. The downsides of allowing factions and RP that do not fit on the West Coast of America (with inspiration, yes, inspiration from California) is that unrealism will follow and with unrealism comes poor roleplay. Faction concepts are and should be denied due to them not fitting in that specific region. For example, you wouldn't see an East Coast Crips set on the West Coast of America. It wouldn't make sense nor would they fit in. Same goes for cartels. Cartels do not exist on the West Coast, cells do. And, well, since we don't have an actual opportunity to visit South America then it just wouldn't make sense nor be viable to have a cartel cell within the server.

  25. True! It was poorly / clumsily written on my part. What I meant by "mundane" things are "things you have to do IRL, that are boring IRL, and that you wish you didn't have to do IRL". I used "mundane" because of my own language dumbness ^^ The idea is that if you don't want to queue at the DMV IRL, why would you want to log on an RP server and do it there? Now, you are right though about niches. I haven't mentioned them extensively in my original post out of fear that it would be too long (... it's already too long ? ). So, it's totally my bad ^^ Niches do, and should exist on RP servers that reach a certain size. And they certainly shouldn't be discouraged from existing as long as they don't cause issues with suspension of disbelief. The point I was attempting to convey was that a specific niche shouldn't become the "RP police" and make their own personal interest the standard of quality of the server. E.g.: My char loves astronomy, but I wouldn't go and bully those who dislike it, and say their RP is "of a poor quality", and that "on THIS SERVER, we have STANDARDS and people who can't properly RP astronomy discussions have no place here". The issue was more about a certain niche trying to bully everyone else into believing that their very specific interest, for more mundane stuff, is the standard that should be expected on the server (and that anyone disliking what they like should be shunned). We have a great example of it in the discussion about Vinewood houses, in fact. Also on this thread in fact. It's true, actually. To a certain extent, of course - some players have little interest in RP'ing along with people, and instead RP using people as props or NPCs. In such cases, the best you can do is to hope the scene will end quickly so you can move on. But you are right that there are opportunities that can be used to enrich a scene perceived as "dull", especially if you have a more quirky and/or social character. And you are also right, it's part of that collaborative experience of RP ? The problem is that the attitude of those minorities doesn't make mallrats run off the server, but actually good players. A Conan Exiles server I've been on for the last year or so (where, trust me, the standards of RP are /INFINITELY HIGHER/ than anything you'll see here) welcomed a lot of former GTA players last year. They were all pretty damn good, with involved stories, a concern for credibility, good writing, etc. Most of them were tired of (quote) "The fucking RP police" being overly toxic all the time and acting like high school bullies. Again, not a single of them were mallrats, none of them had any particular problem with the rules, and none tried to do anything wildly unrealistic. Among those exiles (haha, irony :p), only a couple came back to GTAW (like the lovely @Bombielonia). The rest are like "nope, no way". Again, because of those people. If the disdainful attitude is meant to keep the good players and make mallrats leave the server, it would appear it's having the exact opposite effect ? To be fair, this thread is also me being already tired of this, and trying a last thing to see if a more reasonable position can be reached. But their attitude is tempting me to just drop Paints News and go back where I came from (along with those I came back with).

  26. It's a Catch 22 unfortunately. In my opinion however: Give people the opportunity to grow or they won't. The reason we don't have many suited for that kind of character is because there's no reason to play that kind of rich person. The in-game choices limit someone able to even attempt that kind of character. It narrows the opportunity for role play, to be honest. Map the million dollar mansions, but have it go through property management/IC channels just as you would with a proper story for a business opening/lease/etc. You could create an IC reason for going through the city channels for buying these houses, I'm sure. Let people aspire towards becoming someone like that, should they choose to. I'm sure there wouldn't be many who would try but at least the opportunity would be there.

  27. Try telling that to people that are more concerned about assets than roleplay. This thread has come up time and time again. Whilst I agree that what "realism" is needs to be clearly defined, you will never reach a conclusion on what realism is because most people don't want to conform with one standard. Everyone wants their own version of what "realism" is, others want to treat a roleplay server like it's GTA Online. You will never win when the majority care about going to a nightclub, drinking a copious amount of alcohol and fastforwarding time to drive their Pariah home to park it. Face it, defining realism in this server at least won't work. Not sure if it'll work elsewhere, but I learnt from almost two years of trying to enforce standards in the server that you won't get anywhere when the majority are pushing in the opposite direction to make it a freeroam server with purple text to emote occasionally when it suits them.
