I agree with you but I think the current faction system holds it back. In my opinion, you shouldn't need to apply to post a faction thread. I've never seen that on another server and I'm not exactly sure the reasoning behind it on here but for me and everyone in our Discord, we WANT to show our roleplay as a gang/group/faction on the forums to other people but we literally can't until an application is accepted (which is currently closed?) which in turn really demotivates some of the members. I would love to see it moved towards everyone can post a thread (as the good ones will be the ones who garner support regardless). Those with good content over a period of time would THEN need to apply to become official. That's the only time an application would be necessary. Besides, from my own experience and another person I know, the current applications take 4+ weeks to get processed. Really just not an efficient way of doing things in my opinion, at least if the goal is to promote gang and/or faction activity. Maybe a more experienced member, an admin or someone from faction management can chime in and give their two cents as to why the current method is used.

Hi. I'm relatively new here, but I figured I might be able to contribute a little bit by providing an argument that will save a lot of people time and make the server a better place overall. You're free to offer counterarguments or add to this as much as you like, I'm just putting it out for the community to judge and hopefully absorb. Something I've noticed in my short time here is the amount of unnecessary roleplay, especially during player-driven or player-created jobs. Some might say, "How can roleplay be unnecessary?" or "The more detail the better!" but I really don't think that's the case. Let me start with a definition of roleplay to begin, so we can at least get a base understanding of what I'm talking about conceptually. Roleplay is, obviously, playing a role. You're fitting yourself into a character that (usually) isn't like you, playing a role that is unlike you in at least one way, but most likely many ways. More precisely, when dealing with roleplay servers (whether GTA-based or otherwise) you're typically trying to tell a collaborative story. It's the narrative, the interactions between characters, and the things that happen server-wide that make it interesting. If you agree with that definition (and it's by no means all-encompassing, just a brief description) then hopefully you'll agree with my main point which is as follows: you don't need to be the thing you're roleplaying as, have all the knowledge that your character would, or wholly simulate what you're doing to its full extent in order to play your character or their occupation properly. As I said earlier, this phenomenon is most prevalent in roleplay-based jobs. I've seen it happen a lot in mechanic shops, specifically. A customer comes in, is usually handed a catalog detailing many things that they can purchase, and then after the player decides what they want the mechanic goes to work. With many auto mechanics (and this isn't limited to mechanics, just using it as an example as it's a common interaction) they will explain what they're doing in excruciating detail. This is where things get unnecessary. You don't need to understand where or even what an alternator is to roleplay a mechanic properly. It adds nothing additional to the story of either character. The customer certainly gains nothing through that interaction any more than they would gain from a simple "/me applies the chosen upgrades and paint selection chosen by the customer." or even several /me commands detailing a couple things they asked for, in perfectly acceptable vagueness. To the extent of adding to the story, you really only need to include details that are directly valuable to the story. Anything else is basically just an ego stroke, claiming to the world "look what I know!" One could claim you're striving for realism, but this isn't a server that's focused on realism as far as I know - it's focused on narrative and character interaction. Realism doesn't really provide anything of value to anyone, unless you're talking about a realistic outcome between two characters or what's realistically feasible in a certain situation (dodging bullets, for example, would be something that someone might deny on the basis of realism). Defying reality is something to object to, but I also think being too realistic is something that plagues a lot of people's roleplay. I've seen really bad cases of this phenomenon too, to the extent that a line of someone's dialogue had a "[1]" in it, clearly copy/pasted from a Wikipedia article. Clearly not everyone is that bad and some people do know what they're talking about, but I'd wager that over 90% of people that play mechanics on the server are not mechanics in real life. They don't need to be. People that look down on others for not providing a super realistic, super accurate, and super detailed job are essentially gatekeepers that actually dissuade people from playing a character that they'd otherwise enjoy playing. Be vague, when vagueness is acceptable. No one will look down on you for it (and if they do they're actively keeping you from actually enjoying the server without doing a ton of research, and should be cast out). I get that people want to impress people with all their knowledge, but it's basically a circlejerk at that point and actually begins to detract from the storytelling. If you enjoy the expansive knowledge of your character's occupation and want it to be as real as possible - okay, but understand that others may not be as enthusiastic as you are about those topics. You have to realize that - nine times out of ten - it's not really going to provide any narrative value to either character. You don't need to prove your character's knowledge to anyone, ever - that's part of the fun of actually playing a role that's dissimilar to yourself in real life. I didn't proofread this and wrote it in a rush, so if there are mistakes or incoherent parts then that's on me, but I hope I got my point across. If you disagree with most or all of this, cool - let me know why, because I'm totally willing to be proven wrong. tl;dr if it's not of value to the overall or personal narrative and won't really provide anything of value to your readers (those around you when you say/perform things), it's probably best to simplify whatever it is you're saying/doing

I'm a new player to the server but i've done a lot of DnD related RP in the past. But wanted to try my hand at a modern setting. Read the first 4 pages and the arguments from either side are the same with the ones im used to. My opinion after all these years is this. CK should exist and should be enforced when appropriate. More below on when i believe it's appropriate after i explain a little. The benefits of CK have been listed by the OP. I wont go into much detail here. But please keep reading. Playing in an enviroment without CK is like playing Skyrim and maxing out all your skills to 100 so you're a mage, blacksmith, figher, theif assasin who is also well spoken and a good merchant, wuutt! At some point you end up a superman with 40 businesses, 20 sports cars and 50 wives. Also the RP enviroment gets too stale. After i meet a character for the 1000th time i dont to see them again. I want to see something new and fresh. I also want to remind people that your character isn't you. A good book has an ending. A good movie has an ending. It might be sad, irrelevant or even unfair but have you ever watched a movie with no ending? CK should be applied after sufficient RP has taken place imho. When CK should be applied in my opinion Example case 1 You attempted to rob a bank, ok you got shot but you respawn. Then you rob some guy, ok you didnt get caught good. You keep living the thug life but at some point in your 20th robbery you get shot. Ok so you've been robbing stores for a while and you had your fun. The scene was RP'ed in a fun way and you actually had fun before your character died. Now it's time to say goodbye and do something new and exciting. Example case 2 You are a gangsta. You RP rivarly with another gang shooting each other, driving over their turf, exchanging insults, threats, generally getting into some fun gang RP. So after your i dont know 30th shootout someone has to die. They aimed you and you're dead. Well bro, you're a gansta. So all in all, if theres a good reason to get a CK and the RP was detailed and not a crappy *draws gun and shotz lul* then its CK time (aka hammer time) My opinion i think is a bridge between the hardcore CK and hardcore PK fans. Also i would like to remind to people saying about character progression that this server doesnt even have an XP system like im used to. You dont lose anything at all grind wise and you get so much money on a new character its crazy. I could buy a house, a car and even have money to spend just by logging in. Unless you love your 20 sports car so much, then i don't know what to say. Also, do not RP illegal stuff or a cop then complain you got CK'ed. If you want to live longer as in real life, just be a civilian and dont rub people the wrong way

What are you smoking? The Tropos? GB200? You do realize the Tropos aka the Lancia Stratos is incredibly rare and expensive, upwards of $350.000 for one. Also, since we're on the topic of "cars being rare", if we're going by that, we should probably remove 20% of the cars that are currently in the dealerships, such as the Elegy Retro and a few others. Having the current cars in dealerships and then saying that the rest shouldn't get added cause "they're rare" makes no sense. A lot of the cars in the dealerships we have are rare but we still have them, so that doesn't make any sense. I'd love to see more cars that are somewhat rare, but on a limited stock, 20-50 of them possibly.

There's a lot of illegal RP, but it's so bad. From my experience, 50% of illegal RP is half-assed robbing where if robber fails, the victim gets reported. 25% is people trying to steal cars and other 25% is trigger-happy gangs who sell drugs and shoot whoever walks by.

I was playing on FiveM a lot and got sick of the RP there. Started looking around and stumbled across a few GTAW feature videos on youtube which really peaked my interest. Joined the discord but was in two minds whether to join or not so I joined Eclipse RP and got fed up within the first 5 minutes. Bit the bullet and applied here, got accepted and never looked back since. 4 months later I'm still here and loving the RP on the server. Won't be going anywhere any time soon, I'll be here till the end!

This was my first experience with RP not only on this server but within the game itself. I had never played gta and was so nervous when I started back in March. You guys accepted me, taught me, had patience with me...spoiled me with rp. ❤️ You guys are amazing and I could not have asked for a better group to hang out with. Thank you to @Sexymofo for encouraging me to come along for the ride and thank you to @Zorbe for doing his best to keep it going just so I would not be sad. As much as I hate, writing these lines, I'll have to say that we're going to close this down. We had such a blast most of the time. The last few months were dragging for many people. I had to give up the leadership because I couldn't meet the requirements anymore of leading an MC of this extend and handling a ~43hour work week + dog + girlfriend. When I first started this all alone, I never thought that it would turn out like this. I roleplayed alone for the first month, ICly forming the club and desperately searching for my first member, to wear the three pieces. Finally @King turned up and things started to get rolling. Thanks for being my first member and being so helpful and dedicated, Tank. ? Then @RaiZe joined in not long after and started to bring a ton of new faces to the club and became my beloved first VP ? Thanks for everything, too my man. Suddenly we had 30+ riders, a strong leadership and such a great time in Sandy Shores. When I had to increase my working hours, I gave the scepter over to @Sexymofo who always put hard work into the MC, motivated people and created insane roleplay for everyone. He clearly rocked the thing. Thank you so much for that!
