  1. Hi guys. I just thought about writing down my first hours on the server to give a perspective as to how it feels to start freshly on gta world. I have played GTA San Andreas Text-Based Roleplay between 2008 to 2016 actively, after that on-off. So while I was quite familiar with common mechanics and commands regarding RP, I was completely new to the world of gta 5 or RAGE and had no clue about the mechanics. So here's my perspective: First login - Left handed This did not work out at all. Due to features being hard coded to certain buttons, you can barely customise it enough so it fits a left handed playstyle. I defaulted to using the standard mapping and merely remapped the sprint and mouse buttons as of now. Very confusing, little explanation It's all quite overwhelming in the beginning. The I Menu is incredible once you get around to using it but in the beginning you just dont know where up and down is. This extends to how things work in the surrounding world like car renting, using your phone properly, etc. The forums have very little help in that regard. It's also not intuitive at all times. I personally got acustomed to using animations via chat. This is nothing major but it does stop you in your tracks when you remember where you have to navigate to use the right lean animation again. Functions and Jobs are incredible I love how work is done here. I have tried garbage disposal, courier jobs (both big and small) as well as fishing (what I currently stuck with). Everything works as its supposed to and has something for different tastes (garbage = mix of big vehicle alley navigating with on-foot action, courier = driving job, fishing = reaction game). You are not forced to jump through hoops to get the jobs started, you are immediatly immersed. Another thing I enjoy alot are the RP jobs offered now. It's great that you can be officially RP to be employed to a certain store AND profit from it. For me it set the whole persona I wanted to roleplay into kickstart as I had a profession to identify with. What I do would wish was that there was a actual shift wage (added to the hourly paytime) so it was beneficial to be around the store even when you know there might be little business. You could even cap that income at 5,000-8000$ per RL-Day so someone actually worked 8 hours of a shift and therefore reduce the amount they get as percentage from orders (from 50 to 20 percent). Fair pricing When I started and decided to pick up a job in Sandy Shores, I was wondering how to navigate the whole area vehicleless. I know taxi services are a thing (and one got me up to Sandy in the end) but I thought vehicles would be unpayable for. I knew nothing about the rental car thing (I ran straight past it) so I was stuck to walking. That was until I checked out the bike dealer and noticed - okay, this gets you moving with what you basically start with. I like that alot. Things are not made fancier than they need to be for someone on your level but again - no hoops to jump through like endless feeling hours of foot traffic before you get your first motorised wheels. Help is hard to get by /helpme does get answered by some people during certain times but I found it very difficult to impossible to get an answer at peak hour. That in itself would not be such a big deal if I was able to ask people I stand by and/or see online. I know I could've asked in /b but I just hoped I had a way to find it out without disturbing the environment with OOC. This together with a lack of documentation on the forum as to how approach certain things, left me oft overwhelmed. The clothing store A big one regarding this was how to set outfits, how to dress your character and what best not to touch.I expected there to be a wardrobe system where you pick individual clothing items and decide if you wear them (similar to the gta 5 online). Instead you set fix outfits in the store that occupy the whole slot as a whole. This works fine as well although less intuitive as I expected. I hoped I could just slide a jacket on when it gets cold and take it off when its warm (without jumping through the hoop -> trunk or property) but the compromise is fine. What bugs me is the skin option that is nowhere explained as to how it impacts your character. This basically cost me the Outfit slot 0 as that slot now rocks a completely different face. I reported the issue back then but got no response in that regard so I left it at that. All in all All in all I am having a blast and the customization options you have make it easier than ever to portray a unique character. The road is bumby, especially in the beginning and you often feel lost with no means to contact help but when you get through those times you find incredible fair mechanics and many ways to have proper roleplay. I'm looking forward to how the server and my rp on it develops. EDIT: Excuse the many mistakes and typos. Deuces Coni

  3. yeah see that sounds all well and good but what if somebody wants to roleplay selling a "1984 mercedes ck3910b" (doesn't exist) and i have absolutely no idea what it is? you want me to take the time to tab out, google the real-life car and then try to deduce what car they're talking about in-game? or would you rather me pm them? oh, except i can't, because i only know their phone number and not their name if it's a /ad. so then i have to call them in character and ask them "hey, by the way, what car are you actually selling because i don't know what you're talking about", at which point i might have thought that they meant they were selling a sultan but they were actually selling a feltzer. not only that, but what are PD supposed to roleplay? "hello, someone stole my 2006 ford something-or-other". "ok sir what car are you actually talking about because i don't know what you mean". or even worse: "steve duncan says: 2-lincoln-7, suspect is driving a 1989 chevrolet caprice" "ian gonzalez says: /f ((what car are they actually driving steve because idk what specific car you're referencing there.))" the problem with roleplaying gta vehicles as real life cars is that there is no standardization. 10 people can all own the same car and roleplay it being something completely different than the last person. but it's okay because 'technically' it's 'based' on that car so it's not against the rules. i don't mean to come across as harsh but i've experienced these problems on samp servers and they annoy me to no end. im not on a high horse i just dont like getting confused and having to jump through hoops all the time.

  4. The moment when you're scavenging the hood for the purposes of jumping a local hoodlum that had smashed your vehicle with a bicycle, in order for your "best gyal's" lesbian lover to randomly smash into your vehicle, causing you to break your arm and completely demolish the entire left side of the vehicle. Of course, this criminal-minded Jamaican migrant, that had spent 25 years in prison, was abiding by the traffic Laws... just for this rich Caucasian woman to drive recklessly on the road. Then, she proceeds to contact 9-1-1 as you're laying on the ground, screaming in pain, with a loaded firearm in your jacket combined with around $20,000 worth of narcotics within the vehicle. "FOHK BABYLON!" Now, I'm just sitting in my repaired vehicle with one hand on the wheel, as my entire left arm is in a sling. ^ This is how you roleplay an accident. I just wish that I had recorded more screenshots.

  5. (Above) The Yee Hing Tong Building, as it stands today. Humble beginnings, and the arduous history of the journey of Chinese immigrants to the U.S. - Chinese rail workers on the West Coast, c. 1885 The Yee Hing Tong is a 'predominantly' legal organisation - at least from an outside in perspective. Its headquarters on the Western United States lies in Los Santos, in the Yee Hing Building itself. Its main goal is to ensure the safety of the Asian community within Little Seoul, and as a whole Los Santos. Its history deeply rooted with early immigrants from Guangzhou and Cantonese speaking provinces in China to the U.S. The building itself was established in the late 1800s when Los Santos was but nothing more than a hub for workers and those who wished to seek riches during the gold rush which saw mass droves of immigration from the orient. In more recent years however, from the 1940s up until the present day - many immigrants from mainland China and places such as Hong Kong and Macau have found their way into the city, in particular the Asian exclave of Little Seoul is noted for its high population of Asian ethnicities and it is now known today for its diverse Asian-American culture with residents living in harmony. This particular tong in Los Santos remains one of the most influential buildings in the city amongst the Asian community. Despite this, from about 1960 - crime in Little Seoul, and Los Santos as a whole skyrocketed as organised crime and street gangs began to occupy the area. This called for drastic action from the Asian community. With the growing influence of foreign street-gangs in the area, the locals were forced to defend what's theirs. This then led to a long and slippery slope of decline for the tong, with the P.A.C.B.A.G.L.S.A getting itself involved in numerous political scandals which led it into disrepute which further exacerbated the situation. Nowadays, the tong is seen participating in dubious acts in a frail attempt to keep itself running after constant scandals. The building is now seen as a melting pot of two-bit and organised crime, with its fingers poked into several of the Asian street gangs in the area, even going so far as to outright fund the gangs due to the tong's poor control over the area. Unfortunately this is the future that's destined for the Yee Hing Building. The P.A.C.B.A.G.L.S.A The Yee Hing Tong Building is predominantly funded by the Pan-Asian Consolidated Benevolent Association of the Greater Los Santos Area. It's considered an NGO organisation, and has been running numerous charitable events, bake sales, put on plays, collect for charities, among other predictable NGO activities. The P.A.C.B.A.G.L.S.A is also responsible for the well-being of the Asian community in Los Santos. Unlike the traditional Chinese-Only benevolent organisations, this particular benevolent organisation caters to all Asian ethnicities regardless of wealth, background or religion. However, the main bulk of the organisation remains Chinese - and thus, most of the elders and financiers who run the tong still remain fairly influential within the community, however in recent years it had lost its reputation after it had dabbled in criminal affairs which is currently causing the slow decline and possible redundancy of the organisation as a whole. - OOC INFORMATION - Little Seoul is a vital asset to GTAW: it reinforces the canon aesthetic of the area, concentrates players in a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly block, and is flexible enough in appearance to attract any class or background. We wish to create a realistic, Chinese-American orientated Tong which would in-turn have criminal aspects running under it. Despite the fact that we're Chinese orientated, we do allow for other ethnicities within the faction - though please bear in mind you may face trouble when attempting to join. If you're a Japanese man, you most likely won't be allowed within the Tong due to the still present dissent. We aim to cater to all walks of life in Little Seoul, from the humble old men running the tong - all the way down to the criminal underworld which feasts upon it. This will hopefully ensure that Little Seoul remains a populated neighbourhood on the server and our main goal is to ensure that it bustles with roleplay. We ask that if you wish to join us, you find us ICly. Whilst we try our best to consolidate roleplay within the faction, you may have to make your own sometimes. Ideally, we ask that you have a Chinese-American character, second-generation and from the ages 15-30. Though these are just guidelines, it's not mandatory. If you wish to create an old man, you're free to do so - though these are what's probably best suited for the faction we're trying to portray and we can't guarantee you'll have fun if you decide to roleplay a FOB immigrant who can't speak a lick of English. If you need help making a character for the faction, consult this guide, or join our discord:

  12. I've been considering a character like this too. My advice is to think about this as a way to find empathy and sympathy for homeless people. After RPing as a homeless youth, if I am not feeling sympathy/empathy for homeless people...that means I have totally failed as an RPer and haven't gone far enough to understand the experiences of the people I'm portraying. When it comes to daily motivations, I would look at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. I would focus more on my background/family and my immediate problems. I would not focus so much on my goals, like "I want to be a drug dealer or a trouble maker". I would think about where I come from, and then I would try to let that naturally push me in different directions. I would read some of the stories at r/homeless especially from younger girls who have something in common with your character. (It would be rude of me to actually post/comment there, though.) I would look at stories from people who are newly homeless, but also people who have been homeless for a while.

  14. No those are quite valid points. The high horse was mainly shot at people who do know that information but would still rather play it off as if they haven't a clue and maybe even go as far as to cause a fuss over it. In the scenario for high speed pursuits, it would probably be a good idea for the faction leader to regulate rules around all faction members communicating all car models as the game models as opposed to real world just so everyone is being fed the same information and while all being on the same page, and same goes for players who were to report a 911 incident involving a vehicle. But you don't even see this now i'm sure, so it's not even a big deal, it just caters to the niche of car enthusiasts and they should be allowed to role play what they want and if other players don't have a clue, well no problem, it's not like that player would probably have a clue in reality either due to limited car knowledge. It's a good point.. but because you don't understand cars shouldn't limit what someone else wants to role play outside of what is considered important intel. You don't really see anyone make advertisements for a 1989 Chevrolet Caprice anyway and now that i think about it.. is it even a rule? And if a player were to advertise a (( "1984 mercedes ck3910b ? )) it could be made so that they are required to bracket the game model for clarification purposes. E.g; Selling a >REAL LIFE MODEL CAR HERE< for >PRICE HERE< (( GAME MODEL )) PH: 00000000

  15. I do the same thing but I don't rely on specific areas. I'd say get a bike or a really really beat up cheapass car that you can RP was maybe a family member's that was left to you (its what I do personally just for more ease of access, i guess its more of like a nomad type char than a true homeless char but eh) and some equivalent of a government phone (in america, we can get phones set up on plans for free, not 100% sure on how to do it but its how my stepdad irl does all his shit and im in california so). Even if you don't RP the phone as being activated which you could, you can still go to specific areas to charge it & access free wifi to use facebrowser which'll still let u connect with more people. You gotta make a few compromises with it unless you really want to soldier through nobody being around and it being near impossible for someone to just randomly stumble upon you and start RPing unless you go to mirror park, which is bound to just end in some goofy, bad RP.

  17. I don't support this. Players will abuse it to spawn their vehicles at their houses because they don't want to take a taxi to retrieve their new bought vehicle. Tbh I never had this issue. My vehicle always spawns right in front of me after a server restart/crash. This shouldn't be implemented. It will be abused. Effort should be put into making the server more stable instead of these unrealistic workarounds which is a waste of time. Sure, having to call a taxi in that situation is unrealistic too. The only option is to report it and have an admin spawn the vehicle to you. That should be the complaint. More admins are needed to handle all these reports and they're actively working on that.

  18. To my knowledge we're supposed to be role-playing as if this is an actual city in real life. We're not living according to the actual story line of GTA 5, sure we're using the universe to role-play, but that doesn't take away from the fact that we're supposed to emulate reality to the best of our ability. I think people should make more of an effort to RP diverse brands to the best of their ability. It increases immersion and is generally better for RP.
